PAUL HAGGIS Screenwriting Lesson

Acclaimed writer-director Paul Haggis has been a fixture of television and film for over 25 years. In this wide-ranging interview, the Oscar®-winning co-screenwriter, director, and producer of Crash (Best Picture 2005) discusses a three-decade career that led from writing for sitcoms like Diff'rent Strokes and The Facts of Life to his breakthrough screenplay for Oscar®-winning director Clint Eastwood, Million Dollar Baby (Best Picture 2004). Haggis's matter-of-fact stories of navigating the entertainment industry are an indelible primer for how to manage the screenwriting life, make a successful transition from TV to film, develop a strong story and characters, pitch an idea, and surmount Hollywood's more frustrating obstacles.

The Haggis Horns - The Bump (♫)

After three sell-out singles and a decade of gigging across the globe The Haggis Horns finally release their debut album Hot Damn! The nucleus of the group, Jason Rae (husband of Corinne Bailey Rae), Atholl Ransome and Malcolm Strachan have become the horn section of choice for the worlds top artists. Currently on tour as part of Mark Ronsons band, the horns can name Amy Winehouse, The New Mastersounds, Lou Donaldson, Corinne Bailey Rae & Nightmares On Wax amoung the selection of the artists that have called on them to lend their lungs to shows or recordings. With guitarist Ben Barker taking on production duties and the addition of some of the UKs finest jazz and funk musicians including Cinematic Orchestra drummer Luke Flowers, the Haggis sound is at the forefront of the burgeoning new funk scene. This album sums up everything about the band: at its core, hard-hitting dancefloor funk, (Hot Damn!/ The Bump), but also taking in reggae (Eskimo), loose-limbed instrumental hip hop (Huffalump)and slamming afrobeat (The Traveller / Tribe Vibes). Add in a couple of cover versions that have been popular additions to the bands legendary live shows (Enter The Haggis / Whos Gonna Take The Weight?), and you have the funkiest sound this side of The JBs. With fans including Gilles Peterson, Bill Curtis (Fatback Band), Quantic, Mark Ronson, Mr.Scruff, The Nextmen and more, this is one of the years essential funk releases. LIKE WHAT U HEARD?
