In the Himalayan tradition, the aspirant breaks through the final barrier through Samaya Tantra and Sri Vidya, after clearing the mind through the practice of Yoga meditation as codified in the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali, and practicing self-enquiry through Vedanta. Vidya means knowing, and Sri Vidya is the highest of all aspects of knowing, as it leads to the Absolute Truth. Yantra refers to the visual form, and Sri Yantra is the form of that knowing. Central to the practices is Maha-Tripura-Sundari, the great, beautiful one, essence, consciousness, or reality that dwells in the three "cities" (tri-pura, or three cities including: gross, subtle, causal; waking, dreaming, sleeping; conscious, unconscious, subconscious). EL YANTRA - mandala La palabra sánscrita Yantra proviene del prefijo "yan" que significa "concebir", "concepción mental". Yantra, pues, significa literalmente, "instrumento". Hace referencia a ciertas representaciones geométricas complejas de niveles y energías del cosmos (personalizadas bajo la forma de la deidad escogida) y del cuerpo humano (en cuanto réplica microcósmica del macrocosmos). El Yantra hindú tiene una función similar a la que posee el mandala del Tantrismo tibetano. Lo que los diferencia es que el mandala tiene un diseño mas pictórico y se dibuja sobre una base circular que contiene sus elementos constituyentes. El Yantra es, por tanto, una clase de mandala empleada por el tantrismo y cuyas imágenes son exclusivamente geométricas. El Yantra típicamente consiste en un borde cuadrado que incluye círculos, pétalos de loto, triángulos y un punto-raíz central conocido como bindu, representando la matriz creadora del universo y la puerta de acceso a la Realidad trascendental. El Yantra proporciona un punto de concentración que es una ventana al absoluto. La idea es hacer el Yantra tan real, interna y externamente, que llegue a cobrar vida. De esta forma, absorbe completamente la atención del yogui hasta tal punto que no se puede diferenciar si el Yantra está en su interior o es el practicante quien penetra en el Yantra. mandala Si se efectúa con éxito, este ejercicio catapultará al practicante (sâdhaka) hacia la conciencia pura, más allá de la distinción entre sujeto y objeto. Algunos rituales con Yantra se utilizan también de forma terapéutica. Además, se pueden crear yantras específicos para una enfermedad o una persona concreta, como amuleto que lleva a cabo curas mágicas. En todo caso, la efectividad del Yantra dependerá de la calidad de concentración y visualización del adepto, además de su dominio de las energías sutiles.
