Waterless urinals at UNESCO-IHE building in Delft

An explanation of two types of waterless urinals currently in use at UNESCO-IHE: one from Uridan with an oil-based odour block and the other from Keramag with a rubber tube odour block. Demonstration on how to remove the rubber tube and how to clean it.

UDD toilet for ecosan awareness at UNESCO-IHE in Delft

A lecturer at UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education in Delft, The Netherlands, describes the functioning of the urine-diversion dehydrating (UDD) toilet. This toilet has been installed in May 2006 and helps to raise awareness about possibilities of waterless sanitation with the ultimate aim to recycle nutrients back to the land in accordance with the ecological sanitation (ecosan) approach. Waterless urinals and UDD toilet at UNESCO-IHE in Delft

The facility manager of UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education in Delft, The Netherlands, describes the waterless urinals in our building and also gives a brief overviev of our UDD toilet. The urinals are from Uridan, Denmark and the UDD toilets is from Separett, Sweden. Both systems use no water but do not smell. They are part of an ongoing awareness raising campaign for ecological sanitation (ecosan). See www.unesco-ihe.org for more information or do a google search on ecosan.

EcoSan Impressions from Students and Lecturers at UNESCO-IHE

The UNESCO-Institute for Hydrologic Education (IHE), in Delft, The Netherlands is equipped with 11 waterless urinals and one urine-diversion-dehydrating (UDD) toilet. 5 IHE students and lecturers from 5 different countries were interviewed to find out their impressions of waterless urinals, UDD toilets, and the principles and possibilities of EcoSan.
