ENDOSCOPIC (NON-SURGICAL) REMOVAL OF MULTIPLE LARGE TUMORS F

www.drkhuroo.org ENDOSCOPIC (NON-SURGICAL) REMOVAL OF MULTIPLE LARGE TUMORS FROM STOMACH IN A PATIENT WITH PEUTZ-JEGHERS SYNDROME PEUTZ-JEGHERS SYNDROME: Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) is a familial syndrome consisting of mucocutaneous pigmentation, gastrointestinal polyposis and cancers of gut & other sites like breast, ovary, and testes. PJS has an autosomal dominant inheritance with variable and incomplete penetrance. Germline mutations of STK11/LKB1 gene on 19p cause this syndrome. Mucocutaneous pigmentation may be noted in early infancy. These deposits of melanin are most commonly found around the mouth, nose, lips, buccal mucosa, hands, and feet, and may also be present in perianal and genital areas. PJS polyps may be found in stomach, small intestine, or colon, but they tend to be prominent in the small intestine. These polyps may increase in size and cause small intestinal obstruction or intussusceptions that may occur in early infancy. Acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding and chronic faecal blood may complicate the disease. PATIENT: The patient was a 25 yr male who had mucocutaneous pigmentation and multiple polyps in the stomach and duodenum. He presented with bleeding from gastric polyps. As the polyps in stomach were numerous, (more than 20 in number) and were large in size (some equal to small egg size), he had been advised to undergo surgery. Surgery planned was total gastrectomy. PROCEDURE: The patient underwent video-endoscopy of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. All polyps were examined for size and presence or absence of stalk. A plan to remove all the gastric polyps at endoscopy was made in the same sitting. He received light conscious sedation. Flat polyps were raised form the gastric wall by injection of saline in to polyp base to let these lesions have a stalk. This was done by needle injector. Each polyp was engaged in a snare and the polyp stalk was cut by coagulation cutting current. The cuts were clean without any bleeding. All polyps were recovered for histology. The histology revealed all polyps to be hamartomous lesions. None of the polyps were cancerous. Patient has been followed up for over one year and is doing fine without any further bleeding or pain. Video shows the procedure of videoendoscpy and endoscopic removal of polyps.

Intelligent Design? Blood Vessels Help Tumors Grow angiogene

Intelligent Design? A scientist begins by asking a question that can be answered by gathering evidence. Questions arise in all sorts of ways: for example, from observations, unexpected results, or the research findings of others. The scientist then develops an initial hypothesis, or possible answer to the question, arrived at based on past research or experience. In exploring the complex biology that enables cancerous tumors to grow, Dr. Judah Folkman formed his initial hypothesis based on decades of research. He suggested that tumors themselves can induce the formation of blood vessels, which in turn nourish the tumors. This phenomenon is called angiogenesis.

Transnasal Endoscopic Surgery For Skull-Based Tumors

Surgeons at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital are the first in the area to remove a brain tumor through their patient's nostril. Brain tumors, mostly those affecting the pituitary gland, are ideally positioned just behind the nose for this advanced surgical technique. The first part of the surgery is done by a skillful ear, nose, and throat surgeon who navigates the sinus cavity allowing direct access to these skull-based tumors. Using an endoscope—tubing with a light and lens attached—neurosurgeons at Norfolk General then get a panoramic view of the brain. With a more complete view, surgeons can remove the entire tumor in most cases.

BRAIN TUMOR - TUMOR CEREBRAL

-The diagnosis once cast a pall of despair over its victims, who had little hope and few options for recovery. However, neurosurgical research and innovative treatments are beginning to change that view. "We know so much more about brain tumors then we did 10 years ago," said John Jane Sr., MD, PhD, Editor of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons" Journal of Neurosurgery and a neurosurgeon in Virginia, "We still have a lot to learn, especially since brain tumors remain one of the least understood and difficult to treat tumors. But, there have been advances in how we diagnose brain tumors and how we treat brain tumors." What is a brain tumor? A brain tumor is a cluster of abnormal cells growing in the brain. Brain tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). They can start growing in the brain - a primary tumor, or they can be formed when cancer cells from another part of the body travel to the brain - a metastatic brain tumor. Approximately half of all primary brain tumors are benign. All metastatic brain tumors are malignant. More than 110,000 people are diagnosed each year with a brain tumor. Approximately 80,000 of tumors are metastatic. There are more than a dozen different types of brain tumors and they are classified by level of malignancy, size and degree to which the cancer has spread. First, metastatic brain tumors often are formed when cancers of the lung, breast, colon, prostate and skin spread to the brain. Improvements in treating these diseases have prolonged the life of victims, giving the cancer a greater opportunity to spread. Second, significant advances in diagnosing brain tumors have been made while many brain tumors may have gone undiagnosed in the past. -BY ED ZERATI -http://www.zerati.com

PreOp® Patient Education Myomectomy Vaginal Fibroid Surgery

http://www.PreOp.com Patient ED @ 617-379-1582 INFO Your gynecologist has recommended that you undergo surgery to remove vaginal fibroids. But what does that actually mean? The uterus is part of a woman's reproductive system - it's the organ that contains and protects a growing fetus during pregnancy. Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that grow from the inner or outer wall of the uterus. They are quite common - as many as 20% of women over 30 will develop fibroids sometime during their lifetimes. In most cases fibroids do not cause any discomfort and are never detected. Occasionally, however, fibroid tumors can cause problems. Complications from fibroid growth can include: * Pressure on the urinary system. * Pressure on the intestines. * Interference with the reproductive system * Or infection. Because these tumors can grow to be very large, surgery is usually recommended in order to restore health and to protect the uterus.

IMPORTANT!READ!READ!READ!READ! okay so many of you asked me what brain tumor is so here is what wiki says about it. A brain tumor is any intracranial tumor created by abnormal and uncontrolled cell division, normally either in the brain itself (neurons, glial cells (astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, ependymal cells), lymphatic tissue, blood vessels), in the cranial nerves (myelin-producing Schwann cells), in the brain envelopes (meninges), skull, pituitary and pineal gland, or spread from cancers primarily located in other organs (metastatic tumors). Ultimately, it is estimated that there are 13,000 deaths per year in the United States alone as a result of brain tumors. thx to - wikipedia.org & here is a short version which i guess all of us can understand :) A brain tumor is a mass or growth of abnormal cells in your brain. Many different types of brain tumors exist. Some brain tumors are noncancerous (benign), and some brain tumors are cancerous (malignant). Brain tumors can begin in your brain (primary brain tumors), or cancer can begin in other parts of your body and spread to your brain (secondary, or metastatic brain tumors). thx to - mayoclinic.com Nothing is like loving you | 86.Episode | Heavy on my heart. recap of episode 85 : senna misses her older brother milo. sharpay collapsed & bella took her to the hospital. troy was talking with the doctor. the doctor said that sharpay might have a brain tumor. heavy on my heart. ft. ashley tisdale as sharpay evans zac efron as troy bolton guest starring : robert pattinson as alessandro - alex kristen stewart as isabella hilary duff as thalia duff milo ventimiglia as milo rodriguez amanda bynes as bridget stone songs : anastacia - heavy on my heart avant ft nicole scherzinger - lie about us

The Brother Mike Adventure Series- Chapter 2- A New Sheep

This movie is for my brother Mike, who has cancer, and is currently at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. He's had three surgeries in the past week. Mike has chondrosarcoma, a rare form of spinal cancer. The tumors tend to wrap themselves around the spinal cord, but can occur in other places. Twice, the "sarcomas," have occured in his lungs, and once they were in his ribs. Each time they occur, he has to have the tumors physically removed. This time, the tumors occured in his throat, right behind his vocal cords, wrapped around the nerves that control movement to the left hand. The first surgery, last week, went OK, but the second one, this week had complications. In order to get all the tumor out, they had to go in from the back of the neck, and from the front of the neck. When the surgeons went in from the front of the neck, they had to push the vocal cords out of the way. This caused complications... The vocal cords swelled up and completely constricted the airways, blocking all breathing. So, my brother had a tube put down his throat. He couldn't sleep because it was so hard to breathe through the tube. The doctors thought it was OK to remove the tube, but when they did, he couldn't breathe at all. So, they had to do an emergency tracheotomy, right then and there. They did a surgery later that day to put in a more permanent trach tube, which he'll have for a couple of weeks, while the swelling goes down in the vocal cords. But, he's still having great difficulties breathing, and therefore has not been able to sleep. It has been several nights since he has slept. I made this movie to cheer my brother up. It's been a very, very rough week. My brother Mike is the strongest guy I know. I keep praying for him, and many of my good friends are praying for him. I believe in the power of prayer. Mike is a great brother. I love him very much. All the people this are our family-- I play the role of the two headed monster. (This movie is in the style of a campy 50's sci-fi flik.) My brothers, parents, nieces and nephews play the rest of the characters. My Mom, who is 70, fires the forward phasers. My Dad, who is turning 75, fires the photon torpedos. You can see where my brother would find some humor in this... :) Most all of our family photos were taken in a single weekend in the summer of 2007. We were celebrating my Mom and Dad's 45th wedding anniversary. My brother Mike loves camping on Lake George, and he has a boat. He had just successfully survived a cancer surgery on his lungs, (his second recurrence of chondrosarcoma in lung tissue.) ( I think that was his seventh cancer surgery total, but, truth be told, the cancer has come back so many times, I have lost count.) The potato was my son's science project. He had to grow grass out of a potato. It struck me as a very funny looking thing, so we named it Mr. Potato and started goofing around with the thing. Before you know it, an idea for a movie had formed, and I made a two-minute short film called: "Mr. Potato on Spring Break." (I didn't put that one up on YouTube, but I did send it out to friends and family, who found it very, very funny.) So, this past week, when my brother was having these other surgeries, and I couldn't sleep because I was very worried about my brother, I just stayed up and worked on a sequel. This was the end result. ** Note: For the record, the word "frak," as in: "where the frak is my coffee?!" is not an actual obscenity, but comes from the TV show, Battlestar Galactica, (the new one, not the original.) So, I guess it's an alien bad word, if you will. :) ** So, I apologize to anyone who wanted "Fibromyalgia-Only" videos on this site, but, hey, sometimes I need to branch out a bit. :) The potato has gone moldy, so I suppose I'll have to get back to fibromyalgia videos after this. :)

In December she had surgery and they removed half of the tumor, which covered one third of her brain... she is a little fighter. She pulled through the surgery . She is 6 1/2 months old now and is receiving chemotherapy. On March 7th, she had an MRI to see how the tumors were responding to the treatments. On March 8th, Jason and Juanita, her parents heard the heart breaking news....the tumor did not respond to the chemo. One part of the tumor was still growing. There are no known cases of this type of tumor being found in a child so young. These young parents are going through a life situation that no parent would ever want to go through. This little girl, Onika deserves every chance and her parents need all the support we, as their friends and families can provide them. (more)

Brain Cancer Vaccine - PART II

The vaccine is designed to boost the immune system's response against brain cancer by exposing the antigens, or specific proteins, that brain tumors produce. Each tumor produces several antigens that may be recognized by the immune system. Although the immune system can identify and attack bacteria, viruses and tumors, it does not recognize all brain tumor antigens. When the immune system does not detect these antigens, it can mistake the insidious cancer cells for normal cells and ignore the cancer cells instead of attacking them. But when the immune system has a way to recognize the antigens, the cancer cells are vulnerable to immune attack. To make the vaccine, researchers used an antigen known to be recognized by the immune system. The antigen was partnered with a common form of bacteria, called Listeria monocytogenes. http://cancerres.aacrjournals.org/cgi/content/full/62/8/2287 Taken from KNBC-TV "OnTheVerge" Sept, 18 2007

Lawsuit victory is a first for cellphone users

Sharesa Price thought it was just another in a series of sinus infections. Her head and eyes hurt, and she was vomiting. But then Price had a seizure, and a brain scan found something far more troubling. "When I got home, the phone was ringing. It was the doctor's office, and they told me, `Brace yourself. Honey, you have a brain tumor.' I was standing by the refrigerator, and I just collapsed, saying, `no, no, no, it can't be a brain tumor,'" she recalled. After her diagnosis in 1999 and surgery to remove most of the tumor, Price started looking for answers. She became convinced that exposure to radio-frequency radiation on the job, where she programmed cell phones for new customers, had caused the tumor. In May, an administrative law judge who handles worker's compensation claims awarded her $30,000 to pay her medical bills and other expenses. Price may be the first person to convince a judge that her illness was caused by radio-frequency radiation. The decision is unlikely to have widespread repercussions for the cell phone industry, however, because the settlement was small. Price's customers at Advanced Communications Systems in northern California were doctors, firefighters, police departments and security departments for casinos, and she loved her work. She used a cell phone several hours each day, and the room in which she worked contained transmitters that emitted radio-frequency radiation, she said. Price said when she filed a workers comp claim, her boss fired her, eliminating her health insurance. Then she lost the case. The Native American single mother of two daughters was devastated. She turned to Tribal Health, a government health agency for Native Americans, to get anti-seizure medication. "If I hadn't been Indian, I would have died," she said. Her former boss, Dave Bohlen, said that he did not fire Price, that she quit based on her doctor's advice that she not return to work there. Bohlen said he dropped the insurance because she was no longer an employee. He called her worker's comp case "frivolous" and said there was no proof her tumor was caused by working in his small shop. "There's nothing harmful going on here," he said. After Price recovered from brain surgery, she went to the Internet and found researchers studying the biological effects of radio-frequency radiation, and got to know them. "I would call them up and say, `You are absolutely dead on. If a rat could talk, this is what it would say. I'm the human rat.' " Price couldn't find an attorney to take her case until she contacted Carl Hilliard, a semi-retired lawyer and president of the Wireless Consumers Alliance, a California-based consumer-advocacy group. Hilliard volunteered to represent her pro bono and re-filed her workers comp case. Hilliard said his group has represented cell phone users in issues involving poor service, billing problems and misrepresentations by cell phone service providers. "We're the ones who filed a case saying federal law does not pre-empt state law [on consumer issues] and won that case four years ago," Hilliard said. Hilliard brought in Dr. Nachman Brautbar, an occupational toxicologist and clinical professor of medicine at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, to review Price's medical records. Brautbar has been an expert witness in a number of high-profile cases, including the chromium poisonings from polluted drinking water portrayed in the movie Erin Brockovich. Brautbar reviewed Price's case and wrote a report supporting her claim that the tumor was caused by exposure to radio-frequency radiation. "It's not a money issue, suing the company, it's a health and safety issue," said Price, who speaks to school assemblies and classes about the need to use a headset when talking on a cell phone. "We need to explain to people that just like putting on condoms, you have to take this precautionary measure to make the product be as safe as it can be. http://www.emfnews.org
