Malta National Anthem

Great Britain formally acquired possession of Malta in 1814. The island staunchly supported the UK through both World Wars and remained in the Commonwealth when it became independent in 1964. A decade later Malta became a republic. Since about the mid-1980s, the island has transformed itself into a freight transshipment point, a financial center, and a tourist destination. Malta became an EU member in May 2004. Administrative divisions: none (administered directly from Valletta); note - local councils carry out administrative orders. https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/mt.html

Djibouti National Anthem

The French Territory of the Afars and the Issas became Djibouti in 1977. Hassan Gouled APTIDON installed an authoritarian one-party state and proceeded to serve as president until 1999. Unrest among the Afars minority during the 1990s led to a civil war that ended in 2001 following the conclusion of a peace accord between Afar rebels and the Issa-dominated government. In 1999, Djibouti's first multi-party presidential elections resulted in the election of Ismail Omar GUELLEH; he was re-elected to a second and final term in 2005. Djibouti occupies a strategic geographic location at the mouth of the Red Sea and serves as an important transshipment location for goods entering and leaving the east African highlands. The present leadership favors close ties to France, which maintains a significant military presence in the country, but also has strong ties with the US. Djibouti hosts the only US military base in sub-Saharan Africa and is a front-line state in the global war on terrorism. Turkmenistan(Turkmenabat Charjew) Feruza فيروزه

Chärjew, also Chardzhou, city in far eastern Turkmenistan in Chärjew province, along the middle course of the Amu Darya. Chärjew is about 585 km (about 360 mi) east of Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, and about 140 km (about 85 mi) southwest of Bukhoro, Uzbekistan. Chärjew is the second largest city in Turkmenistan after Ashgabat. It was once a major river and rail junction and transshipment point, as well as the site of the largest port complex on the Amu Darya. With increased upstream water withdrawals for irrigation, the Amu Darya downstream from Chärjew is no longer navigable except by flat-bottom boats, and the region's economy has suffered. Industrial activity is associated with agriculture, and includes cotton growing and processing, textile manufacturing, and phosphate fertilizer production. A branch of the Turkmen Pedagogical Institute is in Chärjew. Chärjew was founded as a Russian military settlement in 1886. The Trans-Caspian railroad followed soon after. Chärjew was known as Novy Chärjew (New Chärjew ) from 1886 until 1937. Population (1990 estimate) 164,000.

Bahamas National Anthem

Lucayan Indians inhabited the islands when Christopher COLUMBUS first set foot in the New World on San Salvador in 1492. British settlement of the islands began in 1647; the islands became a colony in 1783. Since attaining independence from the UK in 1973, The Bahamas have prospered through tourism and international banking and investment management. Because of its geography, the country is a major transshipment point for illegal drugs, particularly shipments to the US and Europe, and its territory is used for smuggling illegal migrants into the US. 1940 Namsos Campaign I

May 9, 1940. British Newsreel. On April 14, Captain F. H. Pegram of the cruiser HMS Glasgow, accompanied by the Cruiser HMS Sheffield and ten destroyers, landed a small party of Royal Marines in Namsos, north of Trondheim. They soon attracted German aircraft. Lieutenant General Sir Adrian Carton De Wiart, V.C., designated force commander, flew in the next day ( April 15). De Wiart was an energetic and competent commander who inspired his troops by his bravery during air attacks. But no Allied aircraft were available over Namsos to provide protection against the Luftwaffe.De Wiart made the decision, because of unopposed enemy air activity, to divert his large, slow and vulnerable troopships one hundred miles northwards to Lillesjona in Nesna where they would be offloaded to destroyers for a fast run into Namsos. He himself arrived there on April 16 to supervise the trans-shipment. Less than an hour into the process, German bombers arrived, and the British naval commander ordered the destroyers to sail with the troops and equipment they had on board. HMS Afridi, Nubian, Matabele, Mashona and Sikh got under way for Namsos carrying De Wiart with 36 officers and 1,208 other ranks. Though repeatedly attacked during their voyage, they arrived unscathed, and got into Namsos on April 16th. On several occasions German reconnaissance aircraft were unaware that landings had occurred the previous night. Carton De Wiart realized that the quicker he got his forces south, the better were his chances of taking Trondheim from the Germans. The first priority, he felt, was to reach Steinkjer where the two roads south met, before the Germans got there from Trondheim. In the meantime, the naval commander, Admiral Layton, decided that taking his destroyers into Namsos was too risky. He would send troops and supplies in on the Polish transport SS Chrobry. Since most of the remaining troops at Lillesjona were aboard the SS Empress of Australia, much time was wasted with further trans-shipping, and the Chrobry, accompanied by HMS Vanoc got into Namsos just before sunrise on April 17th. In the mad hurry to get away before the German bombers arrived, the soldiers landed without much of their kit. But, De Wiart succeeded in getting the troops dispersed before a reconnaissance aircraft arrived. At this time, Carton De Wiart was not aware that the attack directly into Trondheimfjord was called off. Throughout his time at Namsos, he was left completely uninformed of what was happening elsewhere in Norway. Two battalions of French Alpine troops landed on April 19 under heavy air attack. One of the transports conveying the French was too long to enter the harbour and returned to the United Kingdom without landing many of the French supplies, leaving the troops without straps for their skis or the mules they used for transport. The French stayed put in Namsos, enduring air bombardment against which they had little protection. The French cruiser Emile Bertin was damaged by bombing during the disembarkation (no casualties) and was replaced by the Montcalm. In total some 6,000 Allied troops were put ashore. The French troops, for the most part, were not used in the short campaign, because of a lack of supplies. Towards the end, they were engaged somewhat as the Allied troops fell back on Namsos, preparatory to evacuation.By April 21, British forces had advanced quickly as far south as the hamlet of Verdal where both road and railway bridges crossed the River Inna, a few miles inland from Trondheimsfjord. This was about halfway between Trondheim and Namsos, some miles down the fjord. Ominously, they spotted a German gunboat, two armed trawlers and a destroyer in the fjord, on their flanks, well able to land troops behind them and direct fire at them, to which they lacked the means to respond. When De Wiart landed at Namsos on April 15, the Germans had about 1,800 troops in the Trondheim area, some in the city and some along the railway to Sweden. Their possession of the Værnes airfield enabled them to fly extra troops in daily, and by April 18th, they had 3,500 men available in the area, the next day 5,000. They were generally well equipped, but lacking in field artillery. Some German troops were diverted to Hegra, where an improvised force of 251 Norwegians were holding out in an old border fort. They began pushing up the fjord and forward patrols reached Verdal on April 16.

Olongapo City Subic Bay Dangerous Drugs Shabu SBMA

Subic shabu burned The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on Friday destroyed P5.3 billion worth of dangerous drugs, said to be the biggest shipment burned at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. facility in Cavite. Officials said the drugs, which weighed a total of 973 kilos, included shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride)—755 kg; marijuana—1.2kg; and opium poppy seeds—217 kg. Majority of the burned drugs, which included the entrapped 755 kg shabu shipment at the Subic Freeport in May, were seized by drug enforcement agencies. A Chinese businessman identified as Anthony Ang, who was allegedly behind the drug smuggling, has remained in hiding since late last month. Superintendent Jose AE. Rayco, regional director of PDEA Region III, said they were waiting for the warrant to be issued for Ang, his wife Estrella and his brother-in-law. Others present in the destruction were Vicente Sotto III, chair of the Dangerous Drugs Board, Public Attorney's Office Chief Persida Acosta, Trece Martires Mayor Melencio de Sagun, and Assistant Secretary Ferdinand Cui of the Presidential Management Staff. Sotto said the destruction of the drugs will wipe out the country's reputation as a trans-shipment point of illegal drugs."

George's speech to the UK Parliament on Iraq,Lebanon 1/2007

George Galloway speech to parliament "There is no Iraqi government" - George's speech to Parliament about Iraq 24 January 2007 When I was his warm-up act, I used to describe the right honourable member for Manchester Gorton [Gerald Kaufman] as the best foreign secretary we never had, and his speech this evening showed why. Indeed, an alternative administration of all the talents became clear on the Labour benches, including the right honourable gentleman's friends, the right honourable member for Holborn and St Pancras [Frank Dobson], and the honourable members for Islington North [Jeremy Corbyn] and for Liverpool Walton [Peter Kilfoyle]. How much stronger the Labour Party's position would be in the opinion polls today if those were the men sitting around the cabinet table, rather than the men and women who are. What a contrast there was between those shafts of light and the myopia displayed by the foreign secretary. So rose-tinted were her glasses that she had even spotted the first elections in Saudi Arabia. As one who follows events in the Arab world closely, I must tell the house that I missed the first elections in Saudi Arabia, probably the un-freest, most undemocratic and most anti-democratic country on earth. So keen was the Foreign Secretary to describe the success of Anglo-American policy in the Arab world that she prayed in aid [appealed to] a grant to the youth parliament in Bahrain. Lebanon But those were not the most foolish of the things that the foreign secretary said in her long speech. She talked about supporting the government and people of Lebanon. Well, let us split that proposition. She was not much help to the government of Lebanon when its prime minister was weeping on television and begging for a ceasefire, and when the British and American governments alone in the world were refusing, indeed blocking, any attempts to demand an immediate cessation of the Israeli bombardment. Worse, she was not much help to the government or the people of Lebanon when British airports were being used for the trans-shipment of American weapons to Israel that were raining down death and destruction on the very people of Lebanon whom she now claims to stand beside. But, of course, that was code for saying that she does not support the one million demonstrators in the square in Beirut who are demanding democracy. The foreign secretary describes the government of Lebanon as a democratic government. If the minister will listen, I can educate him. There is no democratic government in Lebanon. The minister should know that. If there were a democracy in Lebanon, Hassan Nasrallah would be the president, because he would get the most votes. But of course he cannot be the president, because you have to be a Christian to be the president, and you have to be a Sunni to be the prime minister, and you have to be a Shi'ite to be the speaker. What they have in Lebanon is precisely the opposite of democracy. It is a sectarian building-block government that they have in Lebanon, and moreover one based on a census that is more than 50 years out of date. If those one million demonstrators had been in Ukraine or Belarus or Georgia, they would be described as the orange revolution, or given some other epithet -- perhaps even "the cedar revolution". Palestine and Iraq So myopic was the foreign secretary that she talked about the peace process in Palestine and refused to condemn the theft, as the right honourable member for Manchester Gorton put it -- he used the word -- of $900 million, stolen from the Palestinian Authority.Palestine and Iraq So myopic was the foreign secretary that she talked about the peace process in Palestine and refused to condemn the theft, as the right honourable member for Manchester Gorton put it -- he used the word -- of $900 million, stolen from the Palestinian Authority. The right honourable member for Liverpool Wavertree [Jane Kennedy], without a hint of irony, advanced the extraordinary proposition that we are fighting for democracy in Iraq, while we can steal the money of the Palestinian Administration in the occupied territories because the people voted for a government whom Olmert, Bush and Blair did not like. So myopic was the foreign secretary's view that she prayed in aid an opinion poll from Basra which told us that the people had every confidence in the police -- we had to send the British in to blow up a police station and kill umpteen Iraqi policemen because we said that they were about to massacre the prisoners in their jails. The foreign secretary prayed in aid the Iraqi government -- a virtual government -- saying that, more importantly, the Iraqi government do not consider that they have a civil war.

Drug Situation: Due to California's diverse culture and unique geography, there are many issues that affect the drug situation in California. Drugs such as cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana are smuggled into the state from Mexico; however, methamphetamine and marijuana are produced or cultivated in large quantities within the state. San Diego and Imperial Counties remain principal transshipment zones for a variety of drugs -- cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine -- smuggled from Mexico. Most drug traffickers/organizations that are encountered by law enforcement continue to be poly-drug traffickers rather than specializing in one type of drug. Since September 11, 2001, greater emphasis has been placed on carefully screening people and vehicles at all California Ports of Entry into the U.S. from Mexico. This has forced traffickers to attempt other means to smuggle their contraband into the U.S., including the use of tunnels that run underneath the border and more sophisticated hidden compartments in vehicles. Los Angeles is a distribution center for all types of illicit drugs destined for other major metropolitan areas throughout the U.S. as well as locally. Increased security measures at Los Angeles International Airport continue to deter drug traffickers from traveling through the airport. Although the northern half of California is awash in methamphetamine in more rural areas, heroin remains the number one drug of abuse in San Francisco, heroin and crack cocaine continue to impact Oakland, and methamphetamine continues in and around Sacramento.

It has all the basic ingredients of a tropical paradise: year-round sun, 25 miles of sandy white beaches, swaying palms, championship golf courses, and some of the prettiest crystal clear aqua waters in the world. The island is also ideally located just off Florida's fast paced fun-coast, only about 70 miles from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. A MODERN PARADISE The wide paved boulevards, manicured roadways, miles of well-planned waterways that are part of Freeport/Lucaya's modern infrastructure, got its start back in the mid 1950s when an American entrepreneur named Wallace Groves laid the strong foundation for today's residential and business boom. Wallace's original vision of a professionally designed and planned community, complete with clean water, state-of-the-art power and utilities, cutting-edge technology and communications, all carefully nestled within the abundant natural beauty of Grand Bahama, is alive and well today, clearly visible in an island infrastructure that is second to none in the region. A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE Freeport/Lucaya is unique in the entire Caribbean. In Grand Bahama, the enjoyment of relaxed island living is reliably supported by a clean, well-planned, up-to-date infrastructure that lets you truly relax, knowing the basics are already taken care of. It is also remarkable in this day and age to find an unspoiled place with no pollution or traffic congestion, only a 30 minute plane ride from South Florida. Grand Bahama offers an unparalleled lifestyle, and the chance to get in on the ground floor of some tremendous growth. The island is just beginning to be discovered—it often reminds people of the opportunities they saw 40 years ago in Florida.
