This is a supersaturated solution of sodium acetate in water. It's in metastable state, which means a slight disturbance of medium leads to nucleation and rapid formation of crystals.

I searched and searched for the perfect 80s song to make a Clana video to, because I wanted to enter FerryboatDreamer's 80s contest, and while I watch both Smallville and Grey's Anatomy and like all of the couples allowed, I enjoy vidding Clana the most. I wanted to use a song that hadn't been done before, and then I found this 1988-1989 song and thought it was PERFECT for Clark's point of view and his relationship with Lana! So here's my best attempt - it's not perfect, but I tried really hard and I'm still proud of it! I made the clips look a bit less saturated for the least intense parts of the song, for the most intense parts I used supersaturation (which I think looks really cool, let me know if you agree), and then for the chorus I used a light purple duotone. Anyway, I think it's fairly self explanatory. Enjoy! And don't forget to rate and leave comments! First attempt at making "HOT ICE" aka; supersaturation.. I think I got the ratio wrong a bit, as it seems to move REALLY slowly.. video is not in "slow mo", it's pretty 'cool' stuff though! A little help from a friend... The landowner-- super nice man--- bored our hole for the seismograph. Super compact land supersaturated with rocks-- water is only 6-9m below so causes top soil to compress super well

This is some footage of a diffusion cloud chamber, made for a college project. The detector is made out of MDF plates glued together as air-tight as possible. The top and bottom are made of aluminum plates. Cloth of some sort is soaked with isopropyl alcohol (2-propanol) and attached to the top plate. The detector is then put upside-down for about twenty minutes in order for the isopropyl alcohol to vaporize and fill the entire box. The box is then shut and placed upside-up on a tub made out of polystyrene. The tub is filled with liquid nitrogen. Over the nitrogen we placed another aluminum plate with four brass screws in it in order to improve the cooling of the gas in the detector. When the gas in the detector cools down, a layer of gas in the bottom of the detector becomes supersaturated. When a particle passes through the supersaturated gas, it ionizes molecules of isopropyl. The ions then move towards other ions or away from them. Because of the supersaturated state of the gas, the little increase in energy due to their movement is enough to condensate the gas, leaving a white trail in the particles trajectory. I've placed annotations near a few trails in the beginning to help point out what you should look for. Enjoy.
