Il 1° Luglio, nella zona delle Grotte di San Giovanni a Domusnovas, ho ritrovato un'esemplare di Hyles Euphorbiae appartenente alla famiglia degli Sphingidae, all'ordine dei Lepidotteri (Bruchi). Dopo aver fatto la muta, sono riuscito a filmarlo mentre mangiava la sua stessa vecchia pelle.

This little fellow was at our cottage last summer. Many thanks to Chris from jcmegabyte for explaning what it is: "Those moths are sometimes called "Hummingbird Moths" or "Bee Moths" because of the way they hover while feeding on flower nectar. They are from the Sphinx Moth family (Sphingidae) and the smaller species do look a lot like Bumble Bees, a mimicry tactic probably developed to keep predators from attacking. In reality they are harmless - AND tasty to birds, etc.!" I know it's impossible to see in the video, but this little guy had antennae, and a long proboscis that it used to drink out of the flowers with. I looked up Hummingbird Moths on the internet, didn't see any thing looked like this one so I don't know what the official genus or species is. Humming-bird hawkmoths (Hemaris affinis, family Sphingidae). Recorded along the forest road on a sweltering hot day of early-August 2008 in Japan. 1. Hovering over vegetation to lay eggs? 2. Perched on the silver-grass. 3. Perched on the maple leaf. This one splashed twice into the rut pool on the road under the tree to have a cold bath (not filmed, unfortunately). 盛夏の或る日、林道沿いで見かけた3頭のクロスキバホウジャク（蛾）。 1. 茂みでホバリング。この時期よく見かける光景。吸蜜できる花も咲いていないので産卵か？ 2. ススキの葉に止まって休憩中。飛んでいない状態を見るのは初めて。 3. モミジの葉に止まって休息。実はこの下に水たまりがあり、二度水面に飛び込むのを目撃。吸水なら口吻を使うはずなので、暑さに堪りかねた意図的な水浴なのだろう。動画を撮り損ねたのが残念無念。

La Macroglossum stellatarum chiamata anche sfinge e pure macroglossum colibrì.. è un lepidottero falena, ma vive di giorno, vola di giorno ed è molto molto simpatico.. Appartieene ai lepidotteri Sphingidae non si posa sui fiori, ma come un colibrì resta in volo librato su di essi per pochi secondi (da 3 a 10 circa) battendo velocemente le ali ad una frequenza di circa 200 volte al secondo e protendendo la lunga spirotromba verso i fiori per suggere il nettare.

Jde o zástupce čeledi nočních motýlů jménem Lišajovití (latinsky Sphingidae), jehož jméno je Dlouhozobka svízelová (latinsky Macroglossum stellatarum).
