These shots were taken near Tripylos summit in August 2005. These are the last remnant populations of Cyprus Cedar. One can see the famous Kykko monastery and the Troodos range from here. The endemic forest of Cedrus brevifolia is confined to Tripylos area in Paphos forest at an altitude between 900 and 1 400 m above sea level. It forms pure (130 ha) as well as mixed stands with Pinus brutia and Quercus alnifolia (120 ha). The Cedar of Cyprus, well-known from ancient times, is mentioned by Theoprastus and Pliny as an important forest tree of that period. Also, cedars and cedar wood are often cited in the Bible: " I will plant in the dry land the cedar, and box, the myrtle and Cypress" (Isaiah 41,19). The wood of cedar is very resistant to insect and fungus attacks. In the past, people used to put pieces of cedar wood in the wardrobe to protect clothing from insects. Many woodcut icon screens in old churches are made of cedar wood. (source: Trees and shrubs in Cyprus, 2002 Lefkosia). A távolban a híres Kikkói kolostor ( a közbülső hegy tetején) és a Trodosz hegység látszódik. Itt a cédrus tiszta állományban él, viszont kissé lejjebb társul hozzá az égerlevelű tölgy és a kalábriai fenyő. A ciprusi cédrus az ókor óta jól ismert Theofrasztos és Plinius is említi, mint fontos erdőalkotó fafajt. Mára ez a kis eredeti populáció maradt rendkívüli tűzveszélynek kitéve. A Biblai is említi (Ézsaiás könyve 41:19). A faanyag gomba és rovar rezisztens, a lakosság régen fadarabokat helyezett a ruha közé a rovar védelem miatt. A régi Ciprusi templomokban sok ikont cédrusfára festettek.
