Fancy Dancers at the 2007 Shinnecock Pow Wow on Long Island.

I was inspired to do this small project as a tribute to the kind and hospitable Native Americans specially the Shinnecock Nation. It would have been great if I had used a Native song for my music background but due to infringement policies I could only make use of what I have. I enjoyed making this with my limited tools and resources and I hope you enjoy it too.

On Thursday, January 5th 2006 train # 2716 was delayed for over 30 minutes at the Patchogue station by a single man. This is about 10 minutes long, shot near the end of the ordeal. He first claimed he was handicapped and that the train crew would not accept his handicapped ID or reduced fare and he was not willing to pay the increase or leave the train. The crew had called Suffolk County Police for assistance, with help taking over 45 minutes to arrive. Later he claimed he was being discriminated against because he was black. After this didn't convince any of the riders-who were beginning to swarm-he claimed to be a Shinnecock Indian. As usual the crew either made no announcements as to he cause of the delay OR the barely functional system was dead. If a news station would like higher quality video be advised that the original file is 2GB+ and a good quality MPEG or AVI is around 400MB-my prices are reasonable.

This video was taken last year '07. It was my 2nd time I've seen a Powwow Festival. I am just amazed by the colorful traditional outfits worn by the dancers be an elderly, middle aged, children, men, or women. I feel privileged to be a part such an event. It is always special to me to see a culture that has existed for at least 5,000 years and still going strong. This is perhaps the reason why I'd like to share with everyone. Enjoy!

The Shinnecock Indians proposal to build a large casino resort in the Hampton Bays area of Long Island is said to be a threat to the Great Peconic Bay National Estuary and the fragile and unique Long Island Pine Barrens -- Peconic River complex which is also the source of water for residents of the East End. The Shinnecock Indian Nation is not yet a federally recognized tribe but has established a reservation near Southampton and Shinnecock Hills on Long Island's East End. Since this was originally produced the developer Ivy Ong is no longer bankrolling the Tribe's plans; he has been replaced by Detroit casino syndicators Mrs. Marian Ilitch and Michael J. Malik, Sr. who have formed Gateway Casino Resorts and Gateway Funding Associates for this project. Both Ilitch and Malik were among the original backers of Detroit's MotorCity Casino and today Ilitch owns 100% of MotorCity Casino. Ilitch and Malik are the driving force behind other Indian Casino proposals in California and Michigan. Ilitch and her husband Mike Ilitch co-founded Little Caesars Pizza in the late 1950s and today the Ilitch Family (Ilitch Holdings, Inc.) also owns the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings. Shinnecock East 1988 Part 2

Here's another small project I did featuring an Aztec Boy Dancer during the Powwow '07 Festival hosted by the Shinnecock Nation. I am truly awed by the existence of a bloodline from an ancient civilization carrying their beloved culture and tradition up to the present. The dedication of this family to show us a glimpse of their culture is truly awesome. I have seen this boy a year earlier and I continue to be amazed by his skills in their traditional dance. Enjoy!
