These are our pets and we bred them for observation. Male beetles will usually die in the fall after mating many times, and the female will die after laying eggs. Metallic red variation of green flower chafer (Eucetonia roelofsi, family Scarabaeidae) feeding on the flowers of Philadelphia fleabane (Erigeron philadelphicus). Shining like a jewel in the sun. Early-June 2008 in Japan. ハルジオンに潜って頻りに花を食べていました。赤く見えるのは光の加減（構造色のいたずら？）なのかと思ったら、アオハナムグリの赤い変異個体と教えてもらいました。「クチクラのタンパク質○○の点突然変異で結晶構造がこのように微小変化し、結果として構造色がこのようにシフトする」と突き止められた例はあるのだろうか、興味があります。

Strategus aloeus females collected in Brazos County, Texas in mid July of 2008 at nightlights. They haven't had food in over a week, so they are quite sluggish. Normally, they would be much more energetic.
