The video clip documents the bottom in the Northeastern Gulf of Mexico in the vicinity of the Florida Middleground, FLorida, at depths of 45-95 m. Special emphasis is placed on collecting marine macroalgae (seaweeds), macrocrustaceans, and molluscs. The seaweeds highlighted in this clip include representatives of green (Codium) and brown macroalgae (Sargassum). This dredging expedition on board the R/V Pelican (LUMCON) took place May 28-June 10, 2006. This expedition was sponsored by National Science Foundation Biodiversity Surveys and Inventories grant DEB-0315995 (S. Fredericq & D.L. Felder, PIs, University of Louisiana at Lafayette).

A large part of Hantu's reef flat is colonised by sargassum seaweed. It's certainly quite an experience to delve into the "thicket" of the weed forest!

A Juvenile golden travelly beats the current whilst keeping close to a tangle of sargassum seaweed. This fish is an exact replica of an adult golden travelly, though the adult tend to be a bit paler in yellow.

It's even funnier the second time around. :)
