-COMING SOON TO DVD- Still Life, winner Golden Lion, Venice Film Festival 2006, is an empathetic portrait of those left behind by a modernizing society and, as in director Jia Zhang-ke's earlier films (Platform, Unknown Pleasures, The World), it is a unique hybrid of documentary and fiction. In Still Life, great changes have come to the town of Fengjie due to the construction of the Three Gorges hydro project: Countless families that had lived there for many generations have had to relocate to other cities. Fengjie's old town, which has a 2000-year history, has been torn down and submerged forever, but its new neighborhood hasn't been finished yet. There are still things that need to be salvaged and yet there are also things that must be left behind. In Still Life, such life-changing choices face both Sanming, a miner traveling to Fengjie in search of his ex-wife of sixteen years, and Shen Hong, a nurse who has come to Fengjie to look for her husband who she hasn't seen in two years. Both Sanming and Shen will find who they're looking for, but in the process they too will have to decide what is worth salvaging in their lives and what they need to let go of.

Log of China trip to adopt Julia. 3 separate segments beginning with Julia at her orphanage in Sanming. My office mates with me on my birthday - which turned out to be the day we received our "acceptance" to adopt her. Other scenes preparing nursery, suitcase packed with meds and toys, flying through Narita to China. "Gotcha day" in Fuzhou and scenes of her orphanage caretakers saying good-bye to her. Scenes of appts. with Chinese doctors so she could get her Visa and in our hotel room getting acquainted. Final segment -sightseeing, U.S. consulate "swearing in" appt. (Julia becomes US Citizen), and trip home.

The combat ships in the video are from 6th Destroyer flotilla(Location: Zhoushan Town 舟山, Ningbo City 宁波, Zhejiang Province) of PLA Navy East Sea Fleet. The flotilla has 4 Type 051 "Luda" class destrpyers(DDG 131, DDG 132, DDG 133, DDG 134), 4 Type 053H2G "Jiangwei Ⅰ" class frigates(FFG 539, FFG 540, FFG 541, FFG 542) ans 4 Type 053H3 "Jiangwei Ⅱ" class frigates(FFG 521, FFG 522, FFG 523, FFG 524). In the video you can see FFG 523 "Putian"(莆田) and FFG 524 "Sanming" (三明). The commander of the 6th Destroyer flotilla is Lieutenant Col. Liuzhe (刘喆).
