Fluorescence Imaging of Eukaryotic Endoplasmic Reticulum

This video shows a brief, real time stream of a live Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell treated with a special fluorescent dye known as a squaraine rotaxane. The movements of the cellular structures in this video are suddle so you may have to view it several times to catch their dynamics. This particular version of the dye specifically partitions into the membranes of these CHO cells, allowing for detailed imaging of this cellular structure. This dye, along with other variants of it, are desiged, synthesized, and studied by Bradley Smith's research lab at the University of Notre Dame.

The Endoplasmic Reticulum Movie o' d00m

-Warning, craziness- Hehe, this is one of azkabanhuntress' friends putting this up. I helped make it, so yeah. Its a really random project we had to do for Biology.... and we did it with ninja sock puppets. ~CSIDragon (said friend 8D)

Green Fluorescent Protein in the endoplasmic reticulum

A tomato ethylene receptor fused to GFP was transiently expressed in onion epidermal cell. The fusion protein was targeted to the ER and imaged by a upright Leica TSC SP2 AOBS laser confocal scanning microscope.

Endoplasmic Reticulum

This is basically the best infomercial for Endoplasmic Reticulum ever. It will tell you exactly why Endoplasmic Reticulum is used by cells everywhere.

3 accents you may encounter in China

The largest of the internal membranes is called the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). The term endoplasmic means "within the cytoplasm," and the term reticulum is Latin for "a little net." Like the plasma membrane, the ERis composed of a lipid bilayer embedded with proteins. It weaves in sheets through the interior of the cell, creating a series of channels between its folds. Of the many compartments in eukaryotic cells, the two largest are the inner region of the ER, called the cisternal space, and the region exterior to it, the cytosol.

Cell Organelle Rap

The nucleus governs all a cell could be by storing the blueprint to genetic destiny (DNA) Some cells don't need some genes turned on Taste bud cells don't care if your feet would be long Now those activated genes specified (When proteins started to be synthesized) What a cell looks and what a cell does And why? Because... While you're busy sleeping in class your body's not just a lump of mass cell organelles work keeping you alive 24/7 , three-sixty-five Once ribosomes are done with protein synthesis, they enter the RER interior fo'shizz where they're processed and modified, and in the end, usually end up: protein plus sugar chain From the rough endoplasmic reticulum canal proteins find themselves in another organelle the smooth endoplasmic reticulum form vesicles that transport proteins: zoom! Meanwhile... The proteins are processed, packaged, distributed. The final sugar chain telling where they're headed. To lysosomes, to vesicles leaving through the cell membrane and wouldn't you know it? the process repeats again. because... some lame science project. if u do one on a cell organelle called "rough endoplasmic reticulum" this should help. peace

The Cow's Stomach

Another fine educational video from these two brothers. Inspired by a trip to the Tilamook Cheese Factory. Rumen, reticulum, omasum, abomasum The parts of the cow's four-chambered stomach Listen to me, and soon you'll know them all The digestive tract of ruminants is vital To a basic knowledge of the world Do you know, can you tell Whence cometh milk, ice cream as well? Grass goes through these chambers, when the cows have been grazin' It travels from the rumen through the abomasum
