間の楔,-Wedge Of Interval part 1
The world of Amoi was originally to be an idyllic haven free of the scourge of human government. The needs of its people would be attended to by an Artificial Intelligence known as Jupiter. In time, the Super Computer had an inintended side effect; it gained sentience. In the time thereafter, the computer began to control all aspects of human life, including the reproduction of the very citizens it was originally intended to nurture. Naturally, the humans would make attempts to try and retake control. To curtail this, the very few females were bred, and the in the resultant male dominated society, gangs ran rampant and sexual slavery fast became a way of life. Thus was born the practice of owning a pet. Riki who was the product of an unsanctioned breeding, finds himself as the pet of Iason Mink, a member of the ruling class in Tanagura. In this episode, Riki infiltrates the borders of Tanagura with the intent of stealing a car, and is caught at this by a gang of residents. Before they can kill him, however, Iason Mink happens by and saves him. The high price of this rescue is that Riki is taken on as a pet. Iason, who is sterile and forbidden from even egaging in sexual relations, does the unthinkable, and falls in love with his slave (or "pet," as they are euphemistically referred to in this series). Although most of his peers typically keep a pet for a brief amount of time, Iason keeps Riki for three whole years. After which, he grants Riki a year free of servitude, after which he must return to Iason. Will Riki do this? I did not create this film, but found it amongst my wife's collection and thought some of you may wish to enjoy this series as well. This anime is based on a novel of a same name by Rieko Yoshihara. Thanks to whomever subbed this work, and I'm sure the many viewers who will enjoy this work will appreciate the subtitles as well. |

Manila Conquest! 1st Pics 1945/02/26
"The Capture of Manila (First pictures of the final stages of General MacArthur's masterful Luzon campaign) - As the U.S. 6th Army approaches from the North, units of the U.S. 8th Army approach Manila from the West and from the South. Naval stations and heavily-mined air fields are taken. U.S. rifle fire is augmented with bazookas, phosphorus grenades and 155 mm. howitzers. Guerrillas render invaluable aid and the hated collaborationists are quickly rounded up. Manila proper is entered, but the cornered Japs have planted TNT charges and soaked blocks of buildings with gasoline. The resultant huge fires burn by day and by night. General MacArthur enters Bilibid prison and is cheered by the 1,100 prisoners who have been captive there since Bataan fell. Refugees mill about Manila's streets, laden down with their few belongings. Water pressure in the mains is negligible, hence the fires rage unchecked. The stench from mass open graves where murdered Filipinos lie, is unbearable. The fighting zone shifts to South Manila, and Intramuros, the old walled city. When the Japs are exterminated, the refugees timidly return to their liberated city, Manila." scenes of MacArthur's three-pronged attack advances, artillery pounds enemy, heavy resistance near Manila, Gen. Eichelberger lead another attack, net closes on japanese collaborators, GIs drink beer from local brewery, evidence seen of Japanese demolition in Manila, MacArthur enters Manila, visits prison and released captives, boat sunk in fighting on Passic River, fires in north Manila, dead Filipinos. The Subprime/Foreclosure Crisis
The U.S. economy has been gripped by a relentless housing crisis for almost two years. A key driver in this crisis has been the many subprime mortgages that involved high rates and fees -- often requiring no down payments -- that were made in the past several years. California is ground zero in the subprime crisis and the resultant spillover effects -- foreclosures, bankruptcies, decreasing property values to name a few. Recognizing that relying on the market alone is unlikely to bring an end to the crisis, the U.S. Congress and the Bush Administration are currently debating federal responses. Meanwhile, some states, including California, are undertaking their own initiatives. |

Australia 2 v Holland 1 6-Sept-2008
Australia 2 v Holland 1 6-Sept-2008 Dutch delight for Socceroos Australia have come from behind to clinch a 2-1 victory against 10-man Netherlands in their friendly international in Eindhoven. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar gave the Oranje the lead in just the sixth minute, but the game was turned on its head when home goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg was given his marching orders on the stroke of half-time. Harry Kewell converted the resultant penalty and Josh Kennedy produced the winner on 76 minutes to ensure the Socceroos a winning preparation ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Uzbekistan in Tashkent on Wednesday (Thursday morning AEST). Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk opted to start with Robin van Persie, despite his injury worries, as he sought to give the Arsenal forward some match practice ahead of their World Cup opener away to FYR Macedonia in midweek. Real Madrid midfielder Arjen Robben, however, was not called upon. The only surprise in Australia's starting XI was AZ Alkmaar forward Brett Holman's inclusion in the midfield ahead of Mark Bresciano, while Carl Valeri filled in for injured defensive midfielder Vince Grella. The Dutch wasted little time to grab the lead, converting from their first opportunity of the match after just over five minutes. A long ball down the left opened up for Ryan Babel to run on to and his cut-back into the box found Huntelaar, who struck a low shot past Mark Schwarzer. Australia responded with some good attacks on the counter, including Brett Emerton's clever cross for Jason Culina who could only head wide. Schwarzer did well to thwart Johnny Heitinga after 20 minutes with the Atletico Madrid defender put through from a quick free-kick, but unable to get past the veteran Australian goalkeeper. The home side continued to probe away with Van Persie shooting just over from a free-kick while Rafael van der Vaart did the same when well fed by Babel. Holman should have equalised in the 37th minute when a gentle header from Kewell set him through on Stekelenburg, who managed to deflect the Australian's low shot. But the real drama for the Dutch keeper came in the 44th minute. A horrible back pass from Heitinga forced Stekelenburg into a reckless lunge on Kennedy and he brought the big Australian down. Referee Martin Atkinson pointed to the spot and then handed the keeper a red card. Kewell slotted the penalty past substitute stopper Henk Timmer and it was 1-1 at the break. Bresciano and Mile Sterjovski replaced Kewell and Emerton at half-time as Australia coach Pim Verbeek looked to save his most influential players for the Tashkent match. Van Persie departed as well, with Dirk Kuyt on as the lone front man after Huntelaar had gone off for Timmer before the break. With both teams having more important games on their plates this week, there was no great hurry to find a winner and despite having an extra man Australia preferred the long ball. The away side's persistence was eventually rewarded when former FC Twente midfielder Luke Wilkshire provided an excellent cross for Kennedy, who jumped above Andre Ooijer and headed well to beat Timmer. Pride wounded, the home side searched hard for an equaliser, but substitute Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink headed wide from a corner and then failed to connect to Ibrahim Afellay's cross. Kuyt forced Schwarzer to save in injury-time, but the Socceroos held on and will head to central Asia full of confidence. 7 September 2008 | 06:42 - PA Sport http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/socceroos/dutch-delight-for-socceroos-133121/ |

Cookie Crew - Got To Keep On
Pryce and Banfield decided to break away from a 13-strong rap aggregation called "Warm Milk And The Cookie Crew" and make a career as a duo. In 1985 their career took off after winning a national rap championship and recording two sessions for the John Peel radio show. They gained a contract from the UK dance record label Rhythm King and were put in the studio with the production trio Beatmasters, who put them in a house music direction. In July 1987, the resultant single "Rok Da House" (no relation to the dance single "Rock The House" by Scoop) was popular in the nightclubs and peaked at number 79 in UK Singles Chart. Their follow-up single "Females" also was a minor hit in October 1987. The continuing popularity of "Rok Da House" in nightclubs eventually renewed interest in the track and garnered a couple of television appearances. The record was re-issued at end of December 1987 and crossed over into the mainstream. The song became a Top 5 hit at the beginning of February 1988, and was even used for an advertising campaign. The track is often quoted as being the first hip house record. The duo moved on to another label, FFRR Records and different producers, resulting in a string of hit singles in 1989, with "Born This Way (Let's Dance)", "Got To Keep On" and "Come And Get Some"; plus the album Born This Way! which reached a modest number 24 in the UK Albums Chart. By 1992 there were differences of opinion with their then label London Records over musical direction, and the duo parted company to pursue separate projects. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cookie_Crew |

Tu-22 Blinder and Tu-22M Backfire (rare historical video)
The Tu-22 'Blinder' had not proved particularly successful, in some respects being inferior to the earlier Tu-16 'Badger'. Its range and take-off performance, in particular, were definite weak points. Even as the 'Blinder' was entering service, OKB Tupolev began work on an improved successor. As with the contemporary Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 'Flogger' and Sukhoi Su-17 'Fitter' projects, the advantages of variable-geometry wings seemed attractive, allowing a combination of short take-off performance, efficient cruising, and good high-speed, low-level ride. The result was a new swing-wing aircraft called Samolët 145, derived from the Tu-22, with some features borrowed from the abortive Tu-98 'Backfin'. The first prototype, Tu-22M0, first flew 30 August 1969. The resultant aircraft was first seen by NATO around that time. For several years it was believed in the West that its service designation was Tu-26. During the SALT negotiations of the 1980s the Soviets insisted it was the Tu-22M. At the time, Western authorities suspected that the misleading designation was intended to suggest that it was simply a derivative of the Tu-22 rather than the far more advanced and capable weapon it actually was. It now appears that Tu-22M was indeed the correct designation, and the linkage to the earlier Tu-22 was intended by Tupolev to convince the Soviet government that it was an economical follow-on to the earlier aircraft. Actually, the fore gear leg and the bomb bay cover were inherited from the original Tu-22. (Much the same happened in the U.S. in the 1950s with aircraft like the Lockheed F-94C Starfire, originally F-97, and the North American F-86D Sabre, originally the F-95.) Only nine of the earliest Tu-22M0 preproduction aircraft were produced, followed by nine more Tu-22M1 pilot-production craft in 1971 and 1972. They were known as Backfire-A' by NATO. The first major production version, entering production 1972, was the Tu-22M2 ('Backfire-B'), with longer wings and an extensively redesigned, area ruled fuselage (raising the crew complement to four), twin NK-22 engines with F-4 Phantom II-style intakes, and new undercarriage carrying the landing gear in the wing glove rather than in large pods. These were most commonly armed with long-range cruise missiles/anti-ship missiles, typically one or two AS-4 'Kitchen' anti-shipping missiles. Some Tu-22M2s were later requipped with more powerful NK-23 engines and redesignated Tu-22M2Ye. In service, the Tu-22M2 was known to its crews as Dvoika ('Deuce'). It was more popular than the Tu-22, thanks to its superior performance and improved cockpit, but its comfort and reliability still left much to be desired. The later Tu-22M3 (NATO 'Backfire C'), which first flew in 1976 and entered service in 1983, had new NK-25 engines with substantially more power, wedge-shaped intakes similar to the MiG-25, wings with greater maximum sweep, and a recontoured nose housing a new Leninets PN-AD radar and NK-45 nav/attack system, which provides much-improved low-altitude flight (although not true nap-of-the-earth flying). It had a revised tail turret with a single cannon, and provision for an internal rotary launcher for the AS-16 'Kickback' missile, similar to the American AGM-69 SRAM. The new aircraft had much better performance than the -M2. It was nicknamed Troika ('Trio'), although apparently it is sometimes referred to as 'Backfire' in Russian service. One area of controversy surrounding the Tu-22M is its capacity for aerial refueling. As built, the Tu-22M has provision for a retractable in-flight refueling probe in the upper part of the nose. This was allegedly removed as a result of the SALT negotiations, although it can be easily reinstated if needed, and in fact a pre-production Tu-22M1 (Backfire-A) with refuelling probe can be seen at Riga Airport today. A Tu-22M (note fuelling probe) seen at Riga A Tu-22M (note fuelling probe) seen at Riga A small number, perhaps 12, of Tu-22M3s were converted to Tu-22M3(R) or Tu-22MR standard, with Shompol side-looking radar and other ELINT equipment. A dedicated electronic warfare variant, designated Tu-22MP, was built in 1986, but to date only two or three prototypes have apparently been built. Some surviving 'Backfires' have had equipment and avionic upgrades to Tu-22ME standard (which does not have a separate NATO reporting name at this time). Total production of all variants was 497 including pre-production aircraft. |

hillary: 'SPADE WORK' (clinton racist code words)
THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT? clinton legacy of lynching update. by Mia T, 7.23.05 "It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that's pretty important." (Martin Luther King) Ironically, the logic of this pronouncement by Martin Luther King would, in short order, be refuted by the reality of his own lynching. King's hope was misplaced and his reasoning was circular. The resultant rule of law relied on by King presumed an adherence to the rule of law in the first instance. Adherence to the rule of law is not something normally associated with the clintons. Moreover, racial and ethnic disrespect, intimidation, exploitation and hate have always been a fundamental clinton tactic and the reflexive use the "N"-word and other racial and ethnic slurs, an essential element in the clinton lexicon. When the "first black president" and his wife ran Arkansas, the NAACP sued them for intimidating black voters at the polls. Conversely, the clintons' refinement of the DNC drag and drop is, arguably, one of the more insidious and repugnant applications of their special brand of race-hate politics. Calculating a black man's worth to be 5/3 of a vote is no less racist, and arguably more so, than calculating his worth to be 3/5 of a white man; the latter is demeaning, but the former is dehumanizing. But it is even worse. Listen to Randall Robinson in this video, read below about Rwanda. Only one conclusion is possible: A clinton legacy of lynching. ------- Bill Clinton felt their pain. Retrospectively. In 1998, on his Grand Apology Tour of Africa, a whirlwind tour of whirlwind apologies for slavery, the Cold War, you name it, he touched down in Kigali and apologized for the Rwandan genocide. "When you look at those children who greeted us," he said, biting his lip, as is his wont, "how could anyone say they did not want those children to have a chance to have their own children?" Alas, the President had precisely identified the problem. In April 1994, when the Hutu genocidaires looked at the children who greeted them in the Tutsi villages, that's exactly what they thought: they didn't want those Tutsi children to have a chance to have their own children. So the question is: when a bunch of killers refuse to subscribe to multiculti mumbo-jumbo, what do you do? "All over the world there were people like me sitting in offices," continued Bill in his apology aria, "who did not fully appreciate the depth and the speed with which you were being engulfed by this unimaginable terror." Au contraire, he appreciated it all too fully. That's why, during the bloodbath, Clinton Administration officials were specifically instructed not to use the word "genocide" lest it provoke public pressure to do something. Documents made public last week confirm that US officials knew within the first few days that a "final solution" to eliminate all Tutsis was underway. Destroying Obama (clinton legacy of lynching update)
Toni Morrison's essay, "Clinton as the first black president," (New Yorker, October 1998) was her defense--some would say, 'her rationalization'--of clinton vs. his impeachment. Morrison's argument reduces to this: bill clinton, who is "blacker than any actual black person who could ever be elected in our children's lifetime.--[a]fter all, Clinton displays almost every trope of blackness," is being lynched for not knowing his place. The irony, of course, is that this is precisely what the clintons are doing to Obama.... And they are doing it for power and treasure, and to hell with their party and the country. All Americans of good will must reject the clintons, completely and absolutely. "What kind of people are the clintons?" (Bob Herbert, The New York Times, Jan. 26, 2008) THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT? clinton legacy of lynching update by Mia T, 7.23.05 "It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that's pretty important." Conversely, the clintons' refinement of the DNC drag and drop is, arguably, one of the more insidious and repugnant applications of their special brand of race-hate politics. Calculating a black man's worth to be 5/3 of a vote is no less racist, and arguably more so, than calculating his worth to be 3/5 of a white man; the latter is demeaning, but the former is dehumanizing. But it is even worse. Listen to Randall Robinson in this video. (Indeed, listen to bill clinton in this video.) Listen... watch... read below... about Rwanda. The story of a Legend
Fly with the legend fly Mig 29..through its history with this russian propaganda film.hope u enjoy it.The Mikoyan MiG-29 (Russian: МиГ-29) (NATO reporting name "Fulcrum") is a fighter aircraft designed for the air superiority role in the Soviet Union. Developed in the 1970s by the Mikoyan design bureau, it entered service in 1983 and remains in use by the Russian Air Force as well as in many other nations. The history of the MiG-29, like that of the larger Sukhoi Su-27 'Flanker', started in 1969 when the Soviet Union learned of the U.S. Air Force's 'FX' program, which resulted in the F-15 Eagle. The Soviet leadership soon realized that the new American fighter would represent a serious technological advantage over all existing Soviet fighters. The MiG-21 'Fishbed' was agile by the standards of its day, but had deficiencies in range, armament, and growth potential. The MiG-23 'Flogger', developed to match the F-4 Phantom II, was fast and had more space for fuel and equipment, but lacked in maneuverability and dogfighting ability. What was needed was a better-balanced fighter with both good agility and sophisticated systems. In response, the Soviet General Staff issued a requirement for a Perspektivnyi Frontovoi Istrebitel (PFI, roughly "Advanced Frontline Fighter", directly "Perspective Forward Fighter"). Specifications were extremely ambitious, calling for long range, good short-field performance (including the ability to use austere runways), excellent agility, Mach 2+ speed, and heavy armament. The aerodynamic design for the new aircraft was largely carried out by TsAGI, the Russian aerodynamics institute, in collaboration with the Sukhoi design bureau. However, in 1971 the Soviets determined that the PFI aircraft would be too expensive to procure in the quantities needed, and divided the requirement into the TPFI (Tyazholyi Perspektivnyi Frontovoi Istrebitel, "Heavy Advanced Tactical Fighter") and the LPFI (Legkiy Perspektivnyi Frontovoi Istrebitel, "Lightweight Advanced Tactical Fighter") programs, the latter paralleling the contemporary USAF decision that led to the "Lightweight Fighter" program and the F-16 Fighting Falcon and YF-17 Cobra. The heavy fighter remained with Sukhoi, resulting in the Su-27 'Flanker', while the lightweight fighter went to Mikoyan. Detailed design work on the resultant Product 9, designated MiG-29A, began in 1974, with the first flight taking place on October 6, 1977.Because it was developed from the same basic parameters laid out by TsAGI for the original PFI, the MiG-29 is aerodynamically broadly similar to the Sukhoi Su-27, but with some notable differences. It is built largely out of aluminium with some composite materials. It has a mid-mounted swept wing with blended leading-edge root extensions (LERXs) swept at around 40°. There are swept tailplanes and two vertical fins, mounted on booms outboard of the engines. Automatic slats are mounted on the leading edges of the wings; they are four-segment on early models and five-segment on some later variants. On the trailing edge, there are maneuvering flaps and wingtip ailerons. The MiG-29 has hydraulic controls and a SAU-451 three-axis autopilot but, unlike the Su-27, does not have a fly-by-wire control system. Nonetheless, it is very agile, with excellent instantaneous and sustained turn performance, high alpha capability, and a general resistance to spins. The airframe is stressed for 9-g (88 m/s²) maneuvers. The controls have "soft" limiters to prevent the pilot from exceeding the g and alpha limits, but these can be disabled manually. In joint USAF-Luftwaffe exercises, the downgraded MiG-29 9-12A that the Luftwaffe fielded defeated the F-16 Fighting Falcon in close-range combat almost every time using its highly practical infra-red search and track (IRST) sensor and helmet-mounted sight, together with the Vympel R-73 (NATO reporting name AA-11 'Archer') missile. The MiG-29 first saw action in the 1980s during the Iran-Iraq war, where unguided bombs and rockets were used to devastating effect. During the Soviet war in Afghanistan, a Soviet MiG-29 shot down an Afghan Su-20 Fitter which had defected. In the following decade, MiG-29s saw combat in the Gulf War at the hands of Iraqi pilots, who were then thought to be among the best in the region after a decade of war and simmering tensions with Iran. Its success in combat encounters is believed to be mixed, it is generally believed that external factors such as inadequate pilot training skills, air-defense infrastructure, and poor maintenance, rather than the quality of the aircraft, are primarily responsible for this lack of success.Indian MiG-29s saw action during the Kargil War in Kashmir. They provided fighter escort for Mirage 2000s dropping laser-guided bombs on enemy targets and played a major role in maintaining the air superiority. |

Human inc.: Japan's Human Experimentation pt.2/5
A special project code-named Maruta used human beings for experiments. Test subjects were gathered from the surrounding population and were sometimes referred to euphemistically as "logs"(丸太, maruta?). This term originated as a joke on the part of the staff due to the fact that the official cover story for the facility given to the local authorities was that it was a lumber mill. The test subjects were selected to give a wide cross section of the population, and included common criminals, captured bandits and anti-Japanese partisans, political prisoners, and also people rounded up by the secret police for alleged "suspicious activities" and included infants, the elderly, and pregnant women. -Prisoners of war were subjected to vivisection without anesthesia. -Vivisections were performed on prisoners after infecting them with various diseases. Scientists performed invasive surgery on prisoners, removing organs to study the effects of disease on the human body. These were conducted while the patients were alive because it was felt that the decomposition process would affect the results. The infected and vivisected prisoners included men, women, children, and infants. -Vivisections were also performed on pregnant women, sometimes impregnated by doctors, and the fetus removed. -Prisoners had limbs amputated in order to study blood loss. -Those limbs that were removed were sometimes re-attached to the opposite sides of the body. -Some prisoners' limbs were frozen and amputated, while others had limbs frozen then thawed to study the effects of the resultant untreated gangrene and rotting. -Some prisoners had their stomachs surgically removed and the esophagus reattached to the intestines. -Parts of the brain, lungs, liver, etc. were removed from some prisoners. In 2007, Doctor Ken Yuasa testified to the Japan Times that "I was afraid during my first vivisection, but the second time around, it was much easier. By the third time, I was willing to do it." He believes at least 1,000 persons, including surgeons, were involved in vivisections over mainland China. Weapons testing -Human targets were used to test grenades positioned at various distances and in different positions. -Flame throwers were tested on humans. -Humans were tied to stakes and used as targets to test germ-releasing bombs, chemical weapons and explosive bombs. |

Blood Omen 2 - Vampire Sebastian (Gameplay Battle)
Sebastian appeared in Blood Omen 2. He was one of the vampires in the employ of the Sarafan Lord. While Kain was searching for Sanctuary in the Lower City, he found a small courtyard. Human bodies littered the ground - some torn to pieces. The vampire responsible for the massacre killed another man, then he acknowledged Kain. He knew Kain, although Kain (with his fragmented memory) could not recall ever meeting him. The vampire made it clear that he did not like Kain, but claimed he was too busy to deal with him. Kain gave chase, and eventually the vampire stopped to continue their conversation. Kain accused him of being a 'sloppy butcher', but the vampire was unconcerned - he wasn't at risk. Kain then asked if the vampire worked for the Sarafan (the logical conclusion), but the vampire dismissed the suggestion, saying he served no one but himself. He left, and Kain did not meet him again until he ventured into the Industrial Quarter. There Kain would learn that the vampire may not have served the Sarafan per se, who were humans and therefore beneath him, but he certainly served the Sarafan Lord, who knew how to 'value' him, and made it in his interests to do so. Umah told Vorador and the Cabal about the Nexus Stone, the artefact she had seen in the Quarter before being captured by the Sarafan. Kain went to steal it from the main factory. As he made his way through the Quarter, Vorador contacted him with the Whisper, informing him that another vampire was near. Within the factory complex, Kain saw the vampire he met earlier, giving orders to guards, warning them of his arrival. Kain eventually reached the chamber where the Nexus Stone was kept, but the vampire was already there, waiting for him. In the harsh light of the room, Kain finally recognized who he was. It was Sebastian. Sebastian had been part of Kain's army, but discontent to serve while Kain ruled, he had betrayed him. He went to the Sarafan Lord and arranged the ambush that cost Kain the war. Sebastian was looking forward to killing Kain now they had met again. Kain and Sebastian fought hand-to hand. The room had steam jets that were activated by a human in the control booth. Kain tried to knock Sebastian into the jets, knowing it would burn him. Sebastian endured it for a while before jumping up to the wall, out of Kain's reach. He used his Dark Gift: 'Berserk' to run around the circular room at a great speed, relying on the resultant centrifugal force to keep him on the wall and above the steam (think of the 'Wall of Death' motorcycle stunt). Occasionally, he tried to leap at Kain, but by picking his position carefully, Kain tricked Sebastian into jumping into a column of energy that had formed in the centre of the chamber. Sebastian finally realized there was a chance he could lose the fight. He commanded the human in the control booth to raise the central platform so he could strike the Nexus Stone. Sebastian wanted to destroy the stone to stop Kain taking it. He also knew that the resulting destruction of the factory would kill them both. Kain jumped up to the platform before Sebastian could complete his task, and Sebastian jumped down to avoid him. Kain used his Dark Gift 'Charm' on the human controller to fill the room below him with steam. Sebastian was forced to return to the platform and fight one-on-one with Kain. Kain won, and Sebastian fell into the steam, writhing in agony. The steam cleared, and Kain came off the platform to stand over Sebastian. He wanted answers. Kain asked about the Nexus Stone's purpose in the Industrial Quarter. Sebastian told him that the portal created by the stone led to the Device. He did not know of the Device's capabilities, only that it would ensure Kain's destruction and allow the Sarafan Lord's rule to be complete. Kain killed Sebastian, drawing the Dark Gift 'Berserk' from him by 'absorbing his veins'. Kain then claimed the Nexus Stone for himself. |

Golden Age Pioneers: Juan de le Cierva
Juan de la Cierva (21 September 1895 -- 9 December 1936) born in Murcia, Spain to a wealthy family, was a Spanish civil engineer and pilot. His most famous accomplishment was the invention in 1919 of the Autogiro, a type of aircraft that later came to be called an autogyro. Juan de la Cierva started building aircraft as early as 1912, and in 1919 he started to consider the use of windmills or rotors as a means of sustaining lift at low speed, and possibly eliminating the risk of stalling altogether. Ironically, he was later killed in an airline accident attributed to a stall. Before this could be satisfactorily achieved, Cierva experienced several failures primarily associated with the unbalanced rolling movement generated when attempting take-off, due to asymmetry of lift between the advancing and retreating blades. This major difficulty was resolved by the introduction of the flapping hinge. In 1923, Cierva's first successful "Autogyro" was flown in Spain by Lt Gomez Spencer. In 1925 he brought his C.6 to England and demonstrated it to the Air Ministry at Farnborough. This machine had a four bladed rotor with flapping hinges but relied upon conventional aircraft controls for pitch, roll and yaw. It was based upon an Avro 504K fuselage, initial rotation of the rotor was achieved by the manual tension of a rope passed around stops on the undersides of the blades. The Farnborough demonstration was a great success, and resulted in an invitation to continue the work in the UK. As a direct result, and with the assistance of the Scottish industrialist James G Wier, the Cierva Autogyro Company was formed the following year. The Avro built C.8 which was basically a refinement of the C.6, with the more powerful 180hp Lynx radial engine, and several C.8's were built. The C.8R incorporated drag hinges, as it was found that the presence of flapping hinges caused blade oscillation in azimuth; giving rise to high stresses with the risk of blade failure, this brought on other problems such as ground resonance for which friction type drag dampers were fitted. A predominant problem with the gyroplane was concerned with achieving initial rotor rotation. Several methods were attempted in addition to the rope and drum system, which could take the rotor speed to 50% of that required, at which point movement along the ground to reach flying speed was necessary, while tilting the rotor to establish autorotation. Another approach was to tilt the tail stabiliser to deflect engine slipstream up through the rotor. The most acceptable solution was finally achieved with the C.19, which was produced in some quantities; a direct drive from the engine to the rotor was fitted, through which the rotor could be accelerated up to speed. The system was then declutched for the commencement of take-off run. As Cierva's autogiros achieved success and acceptance, others began to follow and with them came further innovation. Most important was the development of direct rotor control, which was achieved initially by tilting the rotor hub and subsequently by the application of cyclic pitch, causing the blades to rise or fall at appropriate points in their rotation, thereby effectively tilting the rotor in the required direction. The introduction of jump take-off was another major improvement in capability. The rotor was accelerated in fine pitch until the rotor speed required for flight was achieved, and then declutched. The loss of torque caused the blades to swing forward on angled drag hinges with a resultant increase in collective pitch, causing the aircraft to leap into the air. With all the engine power now applied to the forward thrusting propeller, it was now possible to continue in forward flight with the rotor in autorotation. All the above features were brought together in the C.30, which was produced in quantity for civil and military use, the autogiros of the 1930's were looked upon as a wonder of their time, but it must however be emphasised that they were not helicopters, and were not capable of vertical take-off, landing or hover in still air, albeit that they could maintain very low speed and accomplish a near vertical landing into wind. Having successfully created and flown his gyroplane in Spain, Cierva established his company in Britain, comprising of a design office and sales organisation, calling upon established aircraft manufacturers to produce his designs. A number of well-known British firms produced aircraft for Cierva including; Avro, Comper, De Havilland and Westland. The importance of Cierva's work on rotors and the effect upon the evolution of the helicopter cannot be overstated, and is indeed recognised throughout the industry. In the process of creating the Gyroplane (Autogyro), Cierva established an understanding of rotor dynamics and control, which was applicable to all rotorcraft, and undoubtedly led to the realisation of the helicopter. |

X-15 Record Breaker Update
Three X-15s made 199 flights during a research program which lasted from 1960 through 1968. It was a daring, yet highly successful program that resulted in hundreds of technical reports. It made contributions to the NASA space program of the 1960s and also on the design and flight of the Space Shuttle many years later. An unofficial motto of flight research of the 1940s and 1950s was "higher and faster." By the late 1950s the last frontier of that goal was hypersonic flight (Mach 5+) to the edge of space. It would require a huge leap in aeronautical technology, life support systems and flight planning. The North American X-15 rocket plane was built to meet that challenge. It was designed to fly at speeds up to Mach 6, and altitudes up to 250,000 ft. The aircraft went on to reach a maximum speed of Mach 6.7 and a maximum altitude of 354,200 ft. Looking at it another way, Mach 6 is about one mile per second, and flight above 264,000 ft. qualifies an Air Force pilot for astronaut wings. The plane was air launched by NASA's converted B-52 at 45,000 feet and a speed of 500 mph. Generally there were two types of flight profiles: high-speed, or high-altitude. High-speed flights were usually done below an altitude of 100,000 feet and flown as a conventional airplane using aerodynamic controls. High-altitude flights began with a steep, full-power climb to leave the atmosphere, followed by up to two minutes of "coasting up" to the peak altitude after the engine was shut down. "Weightless" flight would last for 2 - 5 minutes as it made a ballistic arc before reentering the atmosphere. A reaction control system was used to maintain attitude above the atmosphere. The reaction controls employed hydrogen peroxide thrusters located on the nose and wings. Depending on the mission, the rocket engine provided thrust for the first 80 to 120 seconds of flight. The remainder of the normal 8- to 12-minute flight was without power and ended in a 200-mph glide landing. Because the nose landing wheel lacked steering and the main landing gear employed skids, the X-15 had to land on a dry lakebed. The Rogers Dry Lake adjacent to Edwards and Dryden was the intended landing location for all flights, but there were numerous emergency lakebeds selected in advance for emergency landings. The X-15 program made many accomplishments, here is list of some of its contributions to space flight: * First application of hypersonic theory and wind tunnel work to an actual flight vehicle. * First use of reaction controls for attitude control in space. * First reusable super alloy structure capable of withstanding the temperatures and thermal gradients of hypersonic reentry. * Development of [a servo-actuated ball] nose flow direction sensor for operation over an extreme range of dynamic pressure and a stagnation air temperature of 1,900 degrees Fahrenheit [for accurate measurement of air speed and flow angle at supersonic and hypersonic speeds]. * Development of the first practical full pressure suit for pilot protection in space. * Development of inertial flight data systems capable of functioning in a high dynamic pressure and space environment. * Discovery that hypersonic boundary layer flow is turbulent and not laminar. * Discovery that turbulent heating rates are significantly lower than had been predicted by theory. * First direct measurement of hypersonic skin friction and discovery that skin friction is lower than had been predicted. * Discovery of hot spots generated by surface irregularities. [These last 4 discoveries led to improved design tools for future hypersonic vehicles, including the Space Shuttle.] * Discovery of methods to correlate base drag measurements with tunnel test results so as to correct wind tunnel data [and thereby improve design criteria for future air- and spacecraft]. * First application of energy-management techniques [for the positioning of the vehicle for landing; these were essential for the landing of the Space Shuttle and all future reusable launch vehicles following their reentry from space.] * Use of the three X-15 aircraft as testbeds carrying a wide variety of experimental packages. The X-15 had its share of emergency landings and accidents, but only two produced serious injuries or death. On Nov. 9, 1962, Jack McKay experienced an engine failure and landed at Mud Lake, Nev. The landing gear collapsed, flipping him and the aircraft on its back. Although he recovered from his injuries sufficiently to fly again, he eventually had to retire because of them. On Nov. 15, 1967, on Michael Adams seventh flight, he entered a spin from which he was able to recover but could not bring it out of an inverted dive because of a technical problem with the adaptive flight control system. He died in the resultant crash of the X-15 number three. |
