The capital island is Rarotonga and it is the destination for all flights to the Cooks. Air New Zealand operates flights from AKL-Auckland, PPT-Tahiti, LAX-Los Angeles; Pacific Blue operates flights from Melbbourne to Auckland and then to Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Distance from Auckland to Rarotonga is 16053km or 10033 miles, and flight time is about 4hrs.

In October of 2000, me and my family flew south of the Equator to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. Truly a magical place, and it was a privilege to visit. The island is roughly 36 miles in circumference and is surrounded by a barrier reef. The protection from predators makes it a haven for some incredible underwater life. The native people I met there (Maori) were some of the kindest I'll ever meet. I found all of my Photo CDs today, and wanted to share the images with all of you. Enjoy the trip.
