This is a spot the local gov. of Quanzhou prepared to showcase all the wonders of the beautiful city of Quanzhou; my home away from home. By a strange turn of events, I ended up in this video, if only for a brief second (during the tea ceremony). I also taught English to several children who are also in this video. I really have lots of good memories from this city and I wish to one day go back, maybe when I retire.

Nanyin (southern classical music) in Quanzhou titled "Thank You Your Highness" (感谢公主). The song is a duet between a Song dynasty official Zhu Bian and a Jurchen Princess. Zhu Bian was sent to the Jurchen Kingdom on a mission, and the Jurchen King decided to marry the Princess to him. Zhu refused and was locked up. Fortunately he was saved by some palace maids, and after some persuasion, he decided to wed with the Princess in name only and maintain a brother-and-sister relationship with her. Sixteen years later, the Jurchen King saw that Zhu Bian was unmoved by power and riches, and decided to let him go back to his country. This song depicts the sad goodbye between the couple.

(我为乜) The song is about a young widow asking herself why she stayed chaste to mourn for her unwedded and already deceased husband while looking after the son of him and another woman, only to be reprimanded by the son in return for trying to control him when she's not even his natural mother.

It is also a time when a massive proportion of the 1.4 billion people in the country have a holiday for three or four days -- this year I was one of those people. A view of Quanzhou's streets and traffic, where streets are cleaner and wider & the buildings more modern, where motorcycle riders seem to cut each other off with much more refined manners & pedestrians step into the lanes of oncoming traffic with such a genteel carriage than in many other Chinese cities.
