Google Tech Talks July 15, 2008 ABSTRACT Org-mode is a large Emacs sub-systems that has been integrated into Emacs with the version 22.1 release. From it original intend, Org-mode is a system for structured note-taking and project planning. It uses strictly plain text files, making it a truly portable, system-independent solution. The project-planning features are implemented using a fairly simple outlining paradigm, upon which meta-data concepts like due dates, priorities, TODO states and tags are overlayed in a non-intrusive way. Besides outlining the system and its basic concepts, I will give background information into the history of Org-mode and discuss the properties of such an evolved system compared to a top-down designed one. Finally, I will also briefly touch on some technical aspects that may be interesting for Emacs wizards and developers. Speaker: Carsten Dominik

Rep. Ron Paul is still in the GOP race and even drew 16% of the vote in the recent Pennsylvania Republican primary. Now his supporters are planning to stage a "revolt" at the Republican National Convention in September, possibly with the aim of securing Paul a prime time speaking slot. Conservative radio talk show host Mike Gallagher told the hosts of Fox and Friends on Tuesday, "There is no question that this could be a major headache for John McCain." "John McCain would be well-served to kind of reach out and give him an olive branch at the convention," Gallagher continued. "Let him speak, give him a role, because if these people are disrespected — you know, this, combined with Bob Barr's announcement that Barr now is running as a Libertarian, is going to just take votes away from John McCain and could be a disaster for the Republican Party." Bob Barr recently cited Paul's success as having helped inspire his own candidacy, pointing to "what Ron Paul has tapped into in terms of reaching an awful lot of young people in particular and illustrating very clearly that in this day and age it is possible to reach a lot of young people through the Internet." Democratic political consultant and commentator Bob Beckel then joined into the Fox discussion, saying of Paul, "I think he ought to get a prime time speech at the convention. This is the only guy that has a bobble doll made for him that his head doesn't move." "They're nuts," Beckel said of Paul's supporters, hastening to add, "I don't mean nuts in a bad way. They're nuts about their guy." "I think they ought to do it, Mike," Beckel concluded, laughing. "I think it would be great for you guys to have Ron Paul at your convention." Chertoff reveals this a ruse when it is reported to him, and reveals himself as a monster and then mentions the one person who could stop it is going to the middle of nowhere, and it is shown the person he is referred to is, in fact, Craig. The episode ends in a cliffhanger. That's a good chunk of the few high paying jobs left in the U.S. It will have an impact. Attrition won't take care of it, they are planning to do away with day shift in order to force the early retirements. People with the most seniority work the better hours, days. If enough of them refuse to work evenings or nights then maybe they will retire or so the plan goes. Also there is a plan to eliminate Saturday delivery. They have wanted to do away with carriers all together and hire outside contractors to do it ala Manpower and other temp services. Imagine the kind of service you will get from someone making close to minimum wage. Ron Paul not planning to campaign for McCain April 28, 2008 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has not received much attention from the media since Senator John McCain became the presumptive nominee. However, Paul is far from giving up on his campaign. He recently received 16% of the vote in the Pennsylvania GOP primary, and his followers brought a Nevada state convention to a standstill over the weekend. Paul appeared on CNN's American Morning on Monday to talk about the campaign and his new book, "The Revolution: A Manifesto." He also suggested he "probably" won't be campaigning for John McCain. "We need to change," Paul told CNN's John Roberts. "The big question is, which way are we going? ... There's not much difference between the three [candidates]." "Do you have any interest in campaigning for John McCain?" Roberts asked "Probably not," replied Paul. "Not unless he changes his tune — like bring the troops home." "How can you be a good Republican if you don't campaign for the Republican candidate?" Roberts wondered. "Maybe you're a good Republican if you stand up for Republican principles," Paul asserted. Paul then outlined his radical free market solutions for the economy, saying "We need to immediately balance the budget, pay down some of the debt, let people go back to work." He told Roberts that he would rely solely on the market to control the prices of food and fuel. "If you turn it over to the market, wouldn't they just drill every untapped resource for more oil?" Roberts asked. "Where would the incentive be for alternative fuels?" Paul insisted that "price" alone would be a sufficient mechanism. "The market is much smarter than anything the politicians can do," he asserted. "The market'll sort it out and decide which is the most efficient energy source."
