Philco antique tube radio

My Philco model 650B I recently restored. Power transformer was cooked hard due to the rectifier tube having been installed improperly. The transformer B+ was shorted directly to ground. All caps and electrolytics have been replaced. The set has been fully aligned. The antenna attached to the radio is a 20' piece of wire running through my attic. I also use a 150' long wire.

1956 Philco E-1762 record changer 'in action' with 45's

I found this 1956 philco at a local antique mall, and passed it up a few times. But the temptation led me back, After some tinkering and negotiating, I bought it for $60. Smartest decision ever! After some cleaning and adjusting, I ended up with this fully functional 1956 E-1762 floor model turntable/changer which I have used for nearly every video on youtube. It still has its owners manual and has 3 speed settings (33/45/78). It has a unique style flip-needle to change from the 33/45 LP microgroove needle to the harder, heavier 78RPM SP needle. It flips forward and backward on a swivel instead of flipping upside down. Sort of a teeter-totter affect, with both needles on the same side of the cartridge. One in front, one to the rear. It also came with some metal 45 center adaptors, as well as a 45 'changer' adaptor which allows you to stack up to 14 45RPM records which it will automatically go through without being touched. It can do 14 LP's or 12 78's this way as well, but I choose not to do 78's as they clank down quite hard, and tend to be too fragile for such a drop. I decided to type how it works instead of narrating it. I will use 3 colored vinyl records for this video to better help you see what it does. The records are: Blue: 'Neath the Southern Moon by Al Goodman and Orchestra Red: Chicken Reel by the Boston Pops Green: A Heart Full of Love by Eddy Arnold. How it works: To the bottom left you will see the record 'shelf', and poking out from its center is a metal arched arm with two nylon wheels at its end. The shelf portion has three sides, one for 7", one for 10", and one for 12" records. The speed is set manually, so it is critical that all the records be of the same size AND speed to be properly played in auto mode. So when you have chosen your disc size, you rotate the shelf to the appropriate size. In this case, the 7" side. You can then stack your records, and then turn the 'hold down' arm in. This holds them all in place, but also serves another function later. With your records stacked, speed and needle set, You can now hit the 'reject' knob, which sets it all in motion. First, the needle will swing out and a lever underneath will sense the position of the shelf, thus telling it where to drop the needle (7" in). Then, The center spindle will lean towards the shelf, and with the help of a little tab, will allow one record to drop. When the record falls, the spring loaded hold-down arm drops down the thickness of the one dropped record. This 'drop' tells the player that one record has fallen, and thusly sets the needle in place. After the last record has played, The spindle leans forward, But the hold down arm does not drop as there are no records left. With no drop of the hold down, The player knows no record has fallen, and thusly places the arm back in its holder. However, It does not stop the spinning of the platter or turn off the machine. A minor nuisance at most. By The Way....Its quick and easy to set up. Doing it one handed while looking at the back of a camera made it go a little sloppy, but its very fluid when you do it normally.

Philco Tube Radio Plays Alex Jones Infowars Radio Show

Philco Model 40-180 Tube Radio chassis playing a radio ad for the Alex Jones Infowars radio show. I found this old Philco radio chassis at a trailer park. The park manager was going to toss it in the trash, so I called a friend and asked him if he wanted it. We got his Blazer and loaded the radio and wood cabinet in the back. We hauled it over his mom's place and put the radio cabinet and chassis in the basement. The radio sat for a few years unrestored until I decided that restoring an old radio might be a fun project. I replaced all the caps, some resistors, wiring, and rewound the oscillator coil before I got it to play something. That is about as far as this restoration will go. The radio is missing too many parts. I mostly listen to one station every morning for about an hour before going to work or sometimes on weekends. It has been working well as an everyday player for several months in that role. Broadcasting on station WCER 900AM Canton, Ohio. The global elite or New World Order have plans to reduce the world's population by 90% or to about 500 million people. Alex Jones is waking up the masses and mobilizing them to resist this scenario. Stay tuned for more on this channel.

1947 Philco 47-1227 AM/FM console radio repairs

I replaced all the capacitors in the Philco and added a fuse holder. First I demonstrate it with an external tuner as I needed to re-connect a wire to get the oscillator stage working again. This brought back AM reception, however some repairman in the past removed the AM-FM 3rd IF can and replaced it with an AM only one! This set has both the AM and FM if coils in the same cans. Therefore the FM can not work on this unless I can find a replacement Philco IF can or chassis somewhere. I don't know if I can sub in a more modern FM IF can as this has a 9.1 mhz IF frequency for FM and later sets used 10.7 mhz IF.

Philco Safari First Transistor TV from 1959

Just coming up to its 50th birthday, the Philco Safari used a small vertically mounted cathode ray tube & was then reflected by a mirror to appear as a normal picture much like many pre World War 2 TV's.Transistor technology then couldn't power larger CRT's.The first direct view transistor TV was the Sony TV 8-301W a year or so later. The Philco was very well engineered and built like a tank! The CRT can be seen directly around 1 Min 45 Secs into the video & then panning up to the mirror screen image.

Philco 116 antique radio

I just got this radio fired up. Still working out some issues with it, but over all she's up & running fairly well. This set uses P-P audio output with dual IF amplifiers. A very sensitive radio. I produced this video in the dark so you can see the dial scale, tubes and oscilloscope in the back ground.

1948 1949 Philco Model 1276 Demonstration Record 78RPM

This is part of a 4 record album set I found called 'Philco, Famous for Quality the World Over'. There are 8 sides, Each devoted to a specific model of Philco. Assuming this was to be played in store for a potential buyer to demonstrate its features. It is spoken in first person, by the Machine, saying things such as "Go ahead...Push my button". This example is for Model 1276, and is record Philco Demonstration Record # 77723. The edges of all four records have chips, and one is badly cracked but still playable. Despite the very clean appearance of the records, There is alot of hiss on this one. The set covers model numbers: 1401 1253 1283 1284 1286 1290 1274 1276 (By the way, a google search revealed The 1401 as the most beautiful player ive ever seen. ) If you own any of these models and would like one uploaded, please send me a request. Oh, this is being played on a 1956 Philco, which decided to malfunction for the first time ever...dropping its arm in the wrong spot upon completion :(

The '33 Philco 89 in operation

A video about my classic 1933 Philco model 89. I just finished restoring it to the best of my abilities. I refinished the cabinet and was very pleased with the results, I also restored it electronically, and as you can hear, it now works! I can only pick up one station though, it picked up more before I replaced the volume control, maybe it is to blame? I'm not sure. I wasn't sure if the origional value of the Vol. control, so I got a 10 K potentiometer. If anyone knows what one I should get, or has any suggestions as to why I'm only getting one station now, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! :)
