The Vatican chief astronomer, Gabriel Funes, said recently that he would welcome the discovery of extraterrestrials. Here's an article from Wired, which was published on June 15, 2008: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=5065245&page=1 In addition to this breaking news, Dr. Zita Martins of Imperial College London announced on June 13, 2008 that analysis of the Merchison meteorite, which crashed in Australia in 1969, contains the molecules uracil and zanthine, which are precursors to the molecules that make up DNA and RNA, and are known as nuleobases. Martins said, "We believe early life may have adopted nucleobases from meteoritic fragments for use in genetic coding which enabled them to pass on their successful features to subsequent generations."
