President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on his first official visit on 5 February. At the Vnukovo-2 International Airport, adorned with state flags of Azerbaijan and Russia, a guard of honor was lined up in honor of the Azerbaijani President. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was warmly met at the ladder by Deputy Premier of the Russian Federation Victor Khristenko, first deputy minister of foreign affairs of Russia Valeriy Loshinin, top officials, Ambassador of RF to Azerbaijan Nikiolay Ryabov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Moscow Ramiz Rzayev and other officials. The same day evening, dinner was given at Novo-Ogaryovo residence of the Russian President in honor of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva on behalf of President of Russia Vladimir Putin and his spouse Lyudmila Putina. President of Russia and his spouse sincerely welcomed the Azeri President and his spouse. Then, President Ilham Aliyev was familiarized with working room of Vladimir Putin. President of Russia expressed confidence that first official visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Russian Federation will be successful and fruitful. Expressing gratitude for warm reception President Aliyev said he believes the visit will be advantageous for both states. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received on 6 February at his temporary residence Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergey Ivanov. During the meeting, the parties had a comprehensive exchange of opinions on implementation of the military-technical agreements between Russia and Azerbaijan, discussed strengthening of cooperation in this field, making it stable and successive. Stabilization of the situation in hot spots of the South Caucasus had also been in the focus of the negotiations. On February 6, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin met in private in the Green Hall of the Kremlin. President Vladimir Putin has told that relations between Azerbaijan and Russia develop intensively especially for the last two years, level of economic and political relations is satisfactory. Having thanked the Russian leader for the invitation to visit with official visit the Russian Federation, President Ilham Aliyev has noted relations between Russia and Azerbaijan have been strengthened, both countries have the same position in combat against terrorism, they speak of the same vision in some regional and international issues. President Ilham Aliyev expressed President Putin and people of Russia condolences due to the tragedy in the Moscow Metro as a result of which there are numerous victims and injured. Then, ceremony was held to sign some documents between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation such as the programme of cooperation between AzerTAg and ITAR-TASS agencies in field of information, agreement between Azeri and Russian governments on mutual protection of confidential information, agreement on cooperation in fight with smuggling and violation of customs rules, protocol on annulment of exceptions from free trade regime, programme of cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation in humanitarian field for 2004-06, Moscow Statement between President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. After signing ceremony Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Vladimir Putin delivered a statement. Different aspects of intergovernmental relations were discussed in the meeting between President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Russian Premier, proposals were advanced to further develop actions of the intergovernmental economic commission to specify the economic, political and humanitarian cooperation. President Ilham Aliyev had fruitful talks at State Duma of Russia as well.
