School house Rock - Mother Necessity

This is the popular SchoolHouse Rock video, with vocals by Essra Mowhawk. Essra Mohawk is legendary in the music industry which is why Bob Dorough, the Creator of Schoolhouse Rock choose her to sing "Interjections" & "Sufferin Till Sufferage." Her vocals begins on "Mother Necessity" (Wilbur & the Wright brothers) at 2:06. FYI - Essra Mohawk wrote Cyndi Lauper's "Change of Heart" & Tina Turner's "Stronger Than the Wind," etc. She also wrote Peabo Bryson's single "Dream" from the "Barney" movie & was offered a publishing deal at 17 by Mo Ostin. At 19, Frank Zappa invited her to join his band. Essra is fondly referred to as "The Secret Diva" & her 1970 lbum "Primordial Lovers" was rated "1 of the 25 best albums of all time" by Rolling Stone magazine. Her accomplishments go on & on & fans have said they would "lay on railroad tracks for her" & 3 have even named their daughter's Essra... Originally from Philadelphia, Essra now resides in Nashville and still makes her living off of music.

Christopher Hitchens: The Moral Necessity of Atheism (1/8)

A fantastic lecture by Christopher Hitchens about how atheism (and anti-theism) is not only a healthy belief system but a moral necessity. He talks about the very earthly nature of religion, the dangerous effect it is having on our world and the need for people to think for themselves. Have a drink and get comfortable because Hitchens is going to explain it all to you just brilliantly! Sewanee University, February 23, 2004

Necessity is the Mother of Kid Inventors visiting with Ellen

On Thursday, Ellen welcomed the latest batch of Kid Inventors, and these Edisons of tomorrow had some great ideas; like 9-year-old Jack Caplan from Marlborough, Conn., who invented the "Kid Finder," and the very laid back 9-year-old Eric Pierce from Dayton, Ohio, who invented the "Salt and Pepper Carrier."

The Necessity of Moral Critique

Quick disclaimer for ya: Dave and I go back a long time, so we're allowed to be hard on eachother. I'm very aware that Dave's views on God and morality do not reflect those of all Christians, and hopefully it doesn't come off that way. If your views ARE similar, then I suppose this is for you, too. Otherwise, feel free to take anything I say with a pillar of salt... er, I mean... a grain.

The Necessity of Normativity

To any newcomers, it's not too late to join in the discussion! Check out the video this one responds to, think of how you'd respond, and then check out some of the responses I've mentioned here to see if they help. Wittgenstein's Lecture on Ethics: http://www.galilean-library.org/witt_ethics.html I also forgot to mention RowanFortuneWood and his contributions to the discussion. I think, Rowan, you should check out gklr and see what you think of his position. Also, I think this is a rather good essay on a priori logic: http://www.nyu.edu/gsas/dept/philo/courses/rules/papers/RailtonAPriori.pdf

Promoting brain chips as a virtual necessity

We are being trained to accept microchip implants, and even brain chips. Here we see one example of the marketing, or massive ongoing propaganda campaign, while frontmen like Ray Kurzweil constantly repeat the notion that it is all inevitable i.e. that in the next 20-40 years most people will be "upgraded" in this way. The words of Paul Saffo, a Technology Forecaster at Stanford University, almost sound like a threat: "The big losers [of this revolution] are the people who say they don't want to get involved. They're the ones who are going to discover that being a little bit out of touch will have some unpleasant consequences. So this is a revolution where it's not a good idea to be a bystander." --------------------- http://outlawjournalism.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=603 http://www.cuttingthroughthematrix.com

Thefakesaganclown and the necessity of Fair Use

Watch "INMENDHAM LIES AGAIN! (NEW & IMPROVED)" by thefakesaganclown. This is a perfect example of why Fair Use is so important and why the DMCA is so dangerous to free speech. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42q1uxCoZyM Unfortunately, the DMCA, and Youtube's implementation of the DMCA, provides a scoundrel's veto. We may need to use clips from a video of someone we are trying to expose to prove he is a liar or a cheater or a person who makes death threats. The DMCA gives scoundrels an upper hand. (None of this should be interpreted as calling Inmendham a scoundrel. This is a generalized discussion.) The REAL danger of the DMCA and Youtube's enforcement policy is that you must give up your anonymity in order to file a counternotice to get your video restored and to prevent your account from being jeopardized. Watch "Youtube's DMCA Loophole" by Voicesinthehead. Also, read the comments on this video. They are especially insightful and should be must reading by Youtube staff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAYLBro5QVM Then read the letter in the sidebar of this video by Pino Carafa (rozeboosje) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cvBxvpAJjw Make sure you check out the comments on his video as well. And finally, I explain on my website why the DMCA is unconstitutional. Hint: it makes us give up anonymity when we file a counternotice. http://www.themaskedanalyst.com/The%20DMCA%20is%20Uncontstitutional.htm
