Have one, but need something smaller for testing? Building a small portable multitouch pad will allow you to test software and experiment on a smaller scale while building your full table or when away from your multitouch screen. Have fun and make a MTmini! This uses Front Diffused Illumination, with normal ambient light (infrared not required or needed) and a normal off-the-shelf webcam (IR filter can still be in place). -How's it Work?- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- For this to work, all you need is a room with (at least) some light. The results will be best when the room lighting is even (no bright lights shinning from one direction onto the multitouch pad). When you place you fingers on the surface, shadows are created where your fingers are. The webcam sees these shadows and sends the image to the tracking software which tracks the shadows as they -Want to Build a Multitouch Pad with Projection?- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- *DIY Multitouch Community: http://www.NUIGroup.com Thanks to: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -David Wallen -Christian Moore -Laurence Muller -NUIgroup Community *NUIGroup.com For all your multitouch needs* http://www.nuigroup.com/forum -.-

Multi-touch Screens in the Open Source World

Google Tech Talks June 9, 2008 ABSTRACT Multi-touch is a new way of human computer interaction, which recognizes multiple simultaneous touch points, as opposed to the standard touchscreen, which recognizes only one touch point at a time. There are many forms of natural input in order to simplify the way people interact with their PC's and devices, however with the introduction of Apple iPhone/iPod Touch, Microsoft Surface and other devices, multi-touch is becoming more and more popular. In this tech talk I will describe what is the history behind multi-touch screens, what kind of multi-touch devices are available and how do they work, focusing mostly on FTIR and DI technique. We will discuss how to receive multi-touch events in our applications using TUIO protocol and how to write multi-touch applications using just a simulator. We will look into available open source projects that can be used to operate multi-touch screens and that are being developed by Natural User Interface Group (NUI Group) community. Speaker: Pawel Solyga Pawel Solyga is a computer science student at Politechnika Wroclawska, Poland. He is a co-founder of Natural User Interface Group (NUI Group), whose main areas of interest are modern user interfaces and in particular mutli-touch sreens. Pawel is also a former Google Summer of Code student. For GSoC 2008, he's working as organization administrator and mentor for the NUI Group. When not contributing to Open Source projects, he's a software engineer at Natural User Interface Europe AB, working on innovative multitouch applications.

Autodesk Design on Jeff Han's Perceptive Pixel Multi-Touch

Architect Doug Look from Autodesk Labs experiments with Autodesk's design software on a Multi-Touch Wall device. The wall is an input device produced by Perceptive Pixel and invented by researcher and (TED conference luminary) Jeff Han. Autodesk Labs believes multi-touch human-computer interfaces may dramatically change how products, infrastructure, and buildings are designed.

Multitouch Audio Table - AudioTouch OS - Short Version

AudioTouch is an interactive multi-touch interface for computer music exploration and collaboration. The interface features audio based applications that make use of multiple users and simultaneous touch inputs on a single multi-touch screen. A natural user interface where users can interact through gestures and movements, while directly manipulating musical objects, is a key aspect of the design; the goal is to be able to interact with the technology (specifically music based) in a natural way. Users can load, exit, and move musical applications using gestures as well as have a multiple applications operate within the same work environment. The design is built into a table that hides all the hardware necessary for tracking multiple inputs as well as displaying visual feedback on the touch surface.
