Disturbing a fire ant mound

Fire ants are found throughout the Southeastern United States as well as Southern California, Taiwan, and Australia. They are native to ... all » Argentina and Brazil. The reaction of a disturbed mound is very characteristic of the Genus Solenopsis. As many people know they can inflict a painful sting. While the sting isn't the most painful found among the ants of the world, the aggressive nature observed in this video shows that one can receive a large number of stings from a fire ant encounter. SERPENT MOUND WORLD'S LARGEST MYSTERY EFFIGY CRATER

This video is similar to WORLD'S LARGEST EFFIGY AMERICA'S STONEHENGE MYSTERY at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A5RVfLT3oc Serpent Mound is one of the world's greatest mysteries. It is a quarter-mile long serpent carved into the earth, and the world's largest prehistoric animal effigy (image). It is located on the bank of a monster meteorite crater. It is also the site of the nations first national park. It might be called America's Stonehenge or great pyramid. It is a world's first for many reasons: 1. It is the largest animal image or effigy earthwork in the world (1,330 ft.). 2. It is one of world's greatest mysteries, its makers and purpose are unknown; it does not contain burials. 3. It was made to be seen from above, rather than ground level. It is more awesome that the Nazca lines of Peru, because the land had to be cleared before it was made. 4. It is astronomically aligned. Its head is aligned with the summer solstice, its coils with the winter solstice and the autumnal and spring equinox sunrises, and with the summer solstice sunrise. 5. It is carved into the side of one of world's largest meteorite craters (~ 5 mi. diameter), which is one of only a few such places in the US. The meteoric impact occurred in the Permian Period about 248 to 286 million years ago. 6. It is possible that the object that slamed into the earth to make the crater was an asteroid. 7. It was the first State Park in the US. 8. It is mysterious, because no meteorite was ever found in the area. 9. It is one of the most famous of all historic sites, one of the strangest, and listed by many sources as one of the wonders of the ancient world. It is a candidate for the United Nation's World Heritage list. 10. It is at the convergence of three distinct soil types. 11. It is near the area where flight was first developed (the Wright brothers in Dayton) and the birth place of Neil Armstrong (first person on another world) and John Glenn. It is 12. Underground caves exist in the area. 13. Many mysterious anomalies exist in the region, e.g., it lies at the center of three major physiographic regions. It lies between the unglaciated Appalachian plateau and glaciated Till Plain areas. It commands a view of the Appalachian Mountain foothills to the east and the plains to the west. 14. It is located in a region of three soil types. 15. It is near the intersection of three geological fault lines. 16. It is in the area of unusual magnetic activity. 17. The area is one of gravity anomalies and high concentrations of uranium near the surface. It contains iridium at levels up to 10 times the that typical of the Earth's crust. 18. It also contains soot that may come from scorched limestone, deormed sand grains, and fractured quatz. 19. Shatter cones like those found in Nevada at nuclear weapon test sites exist throughout the structure. Its head overlooks a the brim of a gigantic meteorite crater, it has a body composed of 7 coils, and a triple coiled tail. Its head contains a giant oval, variously thought to be an egg or the sun. It is unknown when it was built, or by who, but thought to be at least a thousand years old or maybe much older. It is one of four places in and around Dayton associated with the Wright Brothers, who built the world's first airplane and pioneered human flight. The Serpent Mound is also on the Interior Department's list of more than 40 additional earthworks left by Native American cultures, who made gigantic structures in precise geometric shapes more than 1,000 years ago. About the ancient structures in Ohio, the Interior Department noted: "These are among the largest earthworks in the world that are not fortifications or defensive structures, and they contain extensive deposits of finely crafted artifacts. Their scale is imposing by any standard: the Great Pyramid of Cheops would have fit inside the Wright Earthworks; four structures the size of the Colosseum of Rome would fit in the Octagon; and the circle of monoliths at Stonehenge would fit into one of the small auxiliary earthwork circles adjacent to the Octagon." Although places such as the Nazca lines of Peru are better known, the earthworks in the Eastern United states were much more difficult to build because the tress and vegetation had to be removed and the earth flattened. The geological structure of the crater has been described as a central hub surrounded by two concentric rings. The outer ring is displaced downwards. A variety of outcroppings are found in the crater. The outer ring, the highest part of the structure risees to an elevation of 1120 feet. It has been described as a large upturned and broken mass. And a huge region that had sunk down several hundred feet, producing dislocations, faults, and upturning layers of rocks. However it is so deeply eroded and buried that little evidence exists on the surface.

R. McKenzie & His Mound City Blue Blowers-Georgia On My Mind

This video disappeared for a short period of time from my channel; at the same time all favorites, ratings and comments got erased. I'm really sorry for this inconvenient! Since a couple of wonderful versions have recently been uploaded, I wanted to add another I particularly like, but which is not well known, as is the band interpreting this moving and skilful version. McKenzie was a versatile bandeader and musician, who led several bands under his name: Red McKenzie and his Mound City Blue Blowers, McKenzie and Condon's Chicagoans, McKenzie's Candy Kids, Red McKenzie and his Music Box, Red McKenzie and his Orchestra, Red McKenzie with the Spirits of Rhythm, as well as Red McKenzie and his Rhythm Kings. In the band featured on this record he played comb, kazoo, and sang. Later, he went on to play with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra. In 1924, when active in Chicago, his massive hit "Arkansas Blues" sold over a million copies. In Atlantic City he met Eddie Lang who joined the orchestra. He also worked with great talents like Frankie Trumbauer and Bix Beiderbecke. The number of talented musicians who recorded with this band (although not all on this session) is just staggering. One wonders why this outstanding group is so neglected today. Personnel included Red McKenzie, leader, comb and vocals; Dave Barbour, guitar; Ray Baudac, Gene Krupa, Dave Tough, Stan King and Josh Billings, drums; Jack Bland, banjo; Bunny Berigan and Yank Lawson, trumpet; Eddie Condon and Pops Foster, banjo and vocals; Forrest Crawford and Eddie Miller, clarinet and tenor saxophone; Jimmy Dorsey, clarinet and alto saxophone; Harry Goodman, Al Morgan, Mort Stuhlmaker, Pete Peterson, Sid Weiss and Bob Haggart, bass; Coleman Hawkins, tenor saxophone; Nappy Lamare, guitar and vocals; Eddie Lang and Carmen Mastren, guitar; Glenn Miller and Al Philburn, trombone; Pee Wee Russell, clarinet; Gil Bowers, Jack Russin and Frank Signorelli, piano; Dick Slevin, kazoo; Muggsy Spanier, cornet; Jack Teagarden, trombone and vocals; Sid Trucker, clarinet and tenor saxophone; Frankie Trumbauer, C-melody saxophone; Billy Wilson and Spooky Dickenson, vocals, as well as Bruce Yantis, violin. The vocal on this record, made for Okeh on June 30th, 1931, is by Red McKenzie himself.

Killing Joke - Inside The Termite Mound

My attitude towards Killing Joke is quite ambivalent. On the one side I really like their great music, their sound - on the other side I´m sick of Jaz Coleman´s political radicalism. But Inside The Termite Mound creates a remarkable dark and sinister atmosphere of "endless construction", comparing some human efforts to the lethal and non-individual collective of a termite mound... However, dear Jaz, I´m not bitching about the Western civilization as you love to do. All pictures of human ´termite mounds´ shown are from biggest (and tallest) ´endless construction´ sites of the world - Dubai, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Kaohsiung...

Kościuszko Mound in Kraków, Poland

Kościuszko Mound (Kopiec Kościuszki) in Kraków, Poland, erected by Cracovians in commemoration of the Polish national leader Tadeusz Kościuszko, is an artificial mound modeled after Kraków's prehistoric mounds of Krak and Wanda. A serpentine path leads to the top, approx. 326 metres (1,070 ft) above sea level, with a panoramic view of the Vistula River and the city. It was completed in November 1823. The location selected for the monument was the natural Blessed Bronisława Hill (Polish: Wzgórze bł. Bronisławy), also known as Sikornik, situated in the western part of Kraków's Zwierzyniec District. It is one of Kraków's four mounds. The construction was financed by donations from Poles living in all territories of Poland under foreign occupation. For three years beginning in 1820, people of all ages and class voluntarily constructed the Mound to the height of 34 metres (112 ft). Work was supervised by a Committee for the Construction of the Tadeusz Kościuszko Monument. At the base of the Mound the Founding Act was deposited in a glass and marble case. At the top, a granite boulder, brought from the Tatra Mountains was placed, bearing the inscription Kościuszce (To Kościuszko). Inside the mound urns were buried with soil from the Polish and American battlefields where Kościuszko fought. Between 1850 1854 the Austrian authorities built a brick citadel around the Mound and began using it as a strategic lookout. As compensation for an earlier historical church that had been demolished, a neo-Gothic chapel of Blessed Bronisława was also built. However, the Austrian fortifications, including the gateway and the south-western rampart and entrenchment were eventually dismantled following World War II, between 1945 and 1956. Next to the Mound there is a museum devoted to Kościuszko, that displays artifacts and mementoes of his life and achievements. In 1997, heavy rains eroded the Mound, thus threatening its existence. It went through a restoration process from 1999 till 2003 in which state-of-the-art technology and modern materials were used. The Mound was equipped with a drainage system and a new waterproofing membrane. Kościuszko Mound inspired Count Paul Strzelecki, Polish patriot and Australian explorer, to name the highest mountain in Australia Mount Kosciuszko, because of its perceived resemblance to the Kościuszko Mound in Kraków.

Mound City Blue Blowers: San

San Fox Trot (McPhail-Michels) Mound City Blue Blowers Brunswick 2602-A/112-CH CHicago,14.3.1924 Red McKenzie - comb Dick Slevin - kazzo Frank Trumbauer - C-melody sax Jack Bland - bj Here's how Red Mckenzie tells of the birth of The Mound City Blue Blowers. In 1923, Red "was back in his home town, St. Louis, the 'Mound City' from which the Blue Blowers got their name. "I was a bellhop in the Claridge Red said, ". . . and across the street was a place called Butler Brothers Soda Shop. Dick Slevin worked there and there was a little colored shoe-shine boy who used to beat it out on the shoes. Had a phonograph going. I passed with my comb, and played along. Slevin would have liked to play a comb but he had a ticklish mouth, so he used a kazoo. He got fired across the street and got a job in a big soda store. He ran into Jack Bland, who owned a banjo (now known for his guitar), and one night after work they went to his room. He and Slevin started playing. They got me. Gene Rodemich's was a famous band at that time. His musicians used to drop in at the restaurant where we hung out. They were impressed and told their boss. He took us to Chicago to record with his band, as a novelty. When we got to Chicago we went down to the Friars' Inn. About 1924 it was. Volly de Faut and Elmer Schoebel were there. Isham Jones was at the place and he asked us what instruments we were playing. He had us come to his office next day, and set the date for Brunswick. That was the time 2-23-'24 we made "Arkansas Blues" and "Blue Blues".(The second record was "San" and "Red Hot" with Trumbauer from the Ray Miller Orchestra.) They say it sold over a million copies. Brunswick put us in a cafe in Atlantic City called the Beaux Arts. I met Eddie Lang in Atlantic City. In New York, The Mound City Blue Blowers played the Palace in August, 1924." Subsequently, Red's band played at the Stork Club in London. Upon returning to America McKenzie joined the Paul Whiteman Orchestra, but kept the band going on the side, with personnel changes. In 1935 he revived the Mound City Blue Blowers for a series of recording sessions.

Full Moon at Bride's mound. Pt1

The friends of Bride's mound, meet at Beltane full Moon to celebrate, and to open a new "kissing gate" entrance. Seen here is Dr. Serena Roney-Dougal, offering Mead to mother Earth, (And talking of Bees) and Jaine Raine; both of these ladies do most of the talking here. It's good to hear Dr. Roney-Dougal mentioning the Bees. They are having a very difficult time of late; Einstein is quoted as having said that if the bees die out, the human race will follow in four years. Also shown in is this video, is my old friend Matthew Holbrook. He is a Druid, and reads his "Lady of Avalon" poem. Bride's mound is the popular name for a small mound to the West of Glastonbury, it is a site of considerable historical and archaeological importance. The site has been in use since prehistoric times, and this area would have been the Western gateway to the Isle of Avalon by water, or from the Polden hills nearby. St Bridget visited Glastonbury in AD 488 and spent time at Beckery (here) where there was an oratory (chapel) dating from Saxon times, and that a later stone building was constructed, dedicated to Mary Magdalene (probably Mary the mother of Christ) The area has always been known as "Little Ireland" from the visits by Irish monks. It was here that legend says King Arthur had a vision of Mary the mother of Christ, and her son; this led to his conversion to Christianity. **'Brigid' (with other spellings), is also the name of a Goddess. This is video part one, part 2 to follow. **This and the following video were shot at dusk, consequently they may appear a tad grainy, but no special effects or enhancements have been used: the images appear here as you would have seen them in person. Also, due to the land elevation around, we didn't see the full-Moon at this time. **View with the "High-Quality" setting if viewing full-screen. The sound on the standard quality recording is heared in stereo. http://www.friendsofbridesmound.com Donations accepted!
