Motility videos

Cell Motility

This time-lapse video recording will show the movement of MDBK cells in culture.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa twitching motility YFP-PilU

Pseudomonas aeruginosa uses its type IV pili for twitching motility on surfaces. This strain carries a YFP fusion to one of three motor ATPases, PilU.

Cell Motility

The cell motility lab from BIOL137.

Listeria with tumbling motility

Poor quality video taken of a video screen by a little digital camera, but shows tumbling motility of Listeria at room temperature (approximately 25C)

Actin based motility of vaccinia virus

Widefield movie of GFP-tagged vaccinia virus particles (green dots) moving on tips of actin tails (Red) in infected cell expressing RFP-tagged actin. Green virus particles also move indpendently of actin tails in the cytoplasm of the infected cell using microtubules

Polarity and motility of cancerous B lymphocytes

Time-lapse movie of about 2-3 min in the life of follicular lymphoma cells which can penetrate the pia mater and enter the brain

Stomach Motility

Animation that shows the process by which food is digested.

Smooth Muscle and Gut Motility

Watch an animated portrayal of a cholinergic neuron secreting acetylcholine onto a smooth muscle. Enjoy!

In vitro motility: chimeric myosin VI (minus-end directed)

Myosin VI fused with an artificial lever arm.

academic video

Cell Motility

TIRF time-lapse of GFP-VASP (left), DIC (center), and merge (right) of a cell in late cell spreading. Scale bar represents 10 µm. For more information, see http://dx.plos.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0003735

In vitro motility: chimeric myosin VI (plus-end directed)

Myosin VI fused with an artificial lever arm.

Stomach Motility

Movement through the stomach involving gastric wall motion and intraluminal pressures.

Human sperm under a microscope

Sperm under a microscope at 400 power. Shows human sperm motility and morphology. You can clearly see the difference between immotile, non-progressive, slowly motile, and rapidly motile sperm. You can also see examples of morphology issues. This video was taken with a standard bright field microscope with an integral digital camera.

The Brown Noise

The brown noise is an urban lengend that says when you hear/feel the noise you have involuntary bowell motility.

Eye Movement Terminology

An introduction to correct terminology of ocular motility (medical)

The Art of the Dancing Bacterium

Clips of Salmonella and Bacillus, obtained using an Olympus Phase Contrast microscope. Bacteria, such as Salmonella, are known to perform a "swarming" like characteristic when on higher percentage agar. This is aside from the normal run & tumble motility shown on low agar environments, an example which is shown by Bacillus subtilis.

Cancer cell migration

These are cancer cells grown in cell culture plates undergoing cell motility. This video was taken overnight using a spinning disc confocal microscope.

Elbow - Ranging Motions X

Extraordinary motility comes to those who pursue the end of the alphabet.
