Maude Barlow and members of the Council of Canadians, the Canadian Labour Congress and others attempt to deliver 10,000 petitions to the leaders at the Montebello summit for the SPP (Security Prosperity Partnership). They had an arrangement to deliver the petitions to the gate but at the last hour the government reneged on that agreement and the petitions were met by the riot squad instead.

To which I say "Bullshit". They were caught out because they approached a peaceful line of protesters in an aggressive manner, while carrying weapons and refused to back down. They were there to cause trouble and that is what they were prevented from doing. Continuous lies in the face of ample evidence only proves that the Quebec police are liars and were attempting to us provokation to incite violence. I find it very likely that they other "violence" at the protests was very likely caused by the same tactics. Judge for yourself with this video. I, for one, am convinced. A retired Ottawa police officer who was formerly in charge of overseeing demonstrations for the [Ottawa] force said he questions who the masked men really are, after viewing the video: "Were they legitimate protesters? I don't think so," said Doug Kirkland. "Well, if they weren't police, I think they might well have been working in the best interests of police." He added that if the situation was as it appeared, he did not approve of the tactic. "It's pretty close to baiting," he said The protest legal aid committee, however, received no report from authorities of their arrests, lending further credence to allegations the two were not genuine protesters. "Yes, these were definitely agent provocateurs, cops, and legal folks have no record of these supposed arrests," said Peoples Global Action (PGA) spokesperson John Hollingsworth at the Indie Media Centre.

The crowd was doing fine, then the first group of riot police came marching out and formed a line. They had no masks and a white patch on their shoulder. The crowd took notice and approached the line. Things were fine for a few hours, but then another group of police switched places with the first ones. This second group had a red patch instead of a white one (a little more intimidating). As a result of that, the crowd got a little more worked up. After a few more hours, those cops were switched for ones wearing gas masks. Again as a result the crowd was getting a little bit more worked up. Then the next "shift change" brought on the full on black storm trooper looking cops with gas masks, shields and clubs. It was at this point that one guy began pushing and throwing stuff (most likely a provocateur in light of recent evidence), and right away about 15 or 20 idiots joined in on the aggressiveness (because the intimidation level had provoked them to that stage). That's when all hell broke loose. Everything would have been fine if the wall of police never came out in the first place. It is my opinion that the whole event was carefully planned. The riot police understand the mob mentality and most importantly how to manipulate it.
