May 30, 2005. Time Lapse 10x.

Monster cell over northern sector of Maghera, N. Ireland during the evening of August 1st 2008. This cell extended from the W to E of N with mega updraught tower exploding with energy directly overhead. The updraught was sheared forward in the direction of travel. Cell had significant large rotating updraught (Mesocyclone) with wall cloud and inflow bands. No severe weather was produced other than heavy precipitation. A very menacing sight!. September 20 2008 LI's of around -8 to -9 and CAPE values near and over the 2000 KJ's mark resulted in some very severe thunderstorms developing around the Darling Downs & Granite Belt regions.. Ipswich area and also the Scenic Rim shire. It was a hot September day.. with temps over the 30C mark with Dewpoint readings over the 15C mark. This was filmed from the Willowbank area south of Ipswich in Queensland Australia. Without a doubt though.. this developed into the biggest mesocyclone i have ever seen in Australia! I have more video of this meso following on from this here in my channel. The storm went on to produce lots of hail.. flash flooding and localised wind damage.

Jason Simpson and James Spann provide coverage from ABC 33/40 in Birmingham as the storm that later produced an EF4 tornado in Lawrence County approached from the southwest.

This was a supercell storm that had a tornado warning, but never produced a tornado.

This is a good view of this storm in low light. When the lightning strikes, notice the banding stripes in the upper part of the cloud - a sure sign of rapid rotation!

This is a time lapse video I took of a mesocyclone in Marshall County, Alabama on 4/11/08 which produced two EF0 tornadoes near Union Grove and Grant.

Supercell thunderstorm NW of the town of Pine Ridge, SD on July 1, 2007

This cell begins to tighten up even more and is still showing a black core on radar. Me thinks someone would have been copping some nasty hail at this point. A mesocyclone is a rotating part of a thunderstorm where updrafts and downdrafts collide and veer in direction to determine a storms' vorticity potential. The formation of a meso is nearly always the precursor to a funnel cloud and possibly tornadoes.

This was a beast of a storm! The lightning show this storm put on was incredible! I had to film this in low light, but it came out well.

Lone Supercell in the Sand Hills

A nice mesocyclone developed in this storm a few km's outside of Marburg in the Lockyer Valley / Darling Downs region of South East Queensland Australia. Unfortunately this storm began to dissipate very quickly not long after this developed.

February 8 - 2008 Inflow becomes cut from this rotating thunderstorm with a developing mesocyclone shortly before a significant microburst in the Springfield area causes torrential rain and wind damage in Southern Brisbane.

This timelapse was captured from the Panora, Iowa KCCI-TV webcam on 10 May 2005. The camera is tracking a mesocyclone that produced a number of funnels, but no known touchdowns.

Mesocyclone Evo reports from Wells Beach Maine Upon the landfall of hurricane Kyle. We experienced a 62 MPH wind Gust that night, 4 inches recorded rainfall, and up to 15 foot surf!

Incredible structure and contrast on this isolated thunderstorm near Algester in Brisbane Queensland Australia. The darker clouds surrounding and immediately to the right of the precip curtain indicate a rapidly developing mesocyclone. Although no tornado was observed from this storm.. numerous reports of a significant microburst were called in. Strong winds and hail were witnessed as a result of this.

This storm moved it's way up from the Boonah / Beaudesert area late on the afternoon of February 8. With a much more elongated appearance earlier in its life, this storm seemed to tighten up and intensify rapidly on radar. These clips were filmed from the Algester area in Logan Shire of Queensland Australia.

An incredibly violent mesocyclone produces multiple tornadoes, including a classic large, white "cone", in Kent County, Texas on June 12, 2005. The motion in the mesocyclone towards the end of the clip is unbelievable!

A nice little chase of a non tornadic supercell that produced a wonderful mesocyclone. There has been a lot of controversy with this storm as a photo that was taken near Orchard Iowa was either photoshoped or of a tornado, or the tornado at the boyscout camp in northwest Iowa. Let me put it to rest as this is all false rumers. The Orchard photo of the mesocyclone is this storm and was not tornadic, this storm also formed one day before the torndado's in northwest Iowa (including the boyscout camp tornado). No Tornado in picture, BUT... Scientfically interesting in the fact it shows the wind field quite clearly pre, and post tornado. Mesocyclone enters picture around 2:40 PM . It Drops a tornado shortly after leaving frame to the left.
