Franco Tenelli's masterclass at Tbilisi concervatory. Last year(2006) when I was invited to sing Radames(Aida) and Manrico(Il Trovatore) in my hometown Tbilisi(Georgia) I was asked by my Maestro, Nodar Andguladze, to conduct voice masterclass in Tbilisi Concervatory. that masterclass turned out to be 2 and half hour one. Part of it I'm presenting here on youtube. I concetrated rather on vocal technique then interpretation for two reasons: 1.Tradition in this concervatory 2.I thought I could help some students to improve right on the spot. My philosophy in teaching/learning voice is simple: 1. Listening carefully to a student 2. Detecting vocal flaws 3. Fixing them either by explaining or showing though I'm not in big favour of a mimiking school. I don't want my students sound like me or like anybody else; I'd like them to discover their own resonance/placement/support with my help. Everybody has different sensations and applying the same, so called, tricks could be helpful with one type and distracful with another type of students. Therefore imagination and psycology has a key role in teaching/learning. I don't separate, as you saw before, teaching and learning because to my opinion teacher is learning as much as student. and if teacher is not learning with a particular student it means that (s)he is applying so called method and expecting every individual to fit in it.
