All Laud the Motu Proprio

A video celebrating the Motu Proprio issued by Pope Benedict XVI lossening the restrictions on celebrating the Traditional Latin Mass by the Missal of 1962 promulgated by Blessed John XXIII. The song is Gustate et Videte. (taste and see how gracious the Lord is) I realize that the clips repeat themselves but the song is so good that its worth repeating.

Learn to play Cuban Music, the Cuban Laud & Son Montuno

For more information visit http://salsablanca.com/ethno/ Learn about the Cuban laud and learn a son-montuno pattern. Son is generic term but it refers to a song with a repeating pattern and no real B section. The song we are showing today is son montuno, this means it has a B section. This is where all the musicians "kick it up", and the pattern is called "tumbao". This music is almost always played as a head or verse section that may repeat and usually has a harmonic change in the B or "coro" section. This coro section is improvisation, both vocally and musically with the underlying "tumbaos", it could be bass or tres or laud or even piano being the glue. This was recorded at the Escuela Nacional de Artes in Havana Cuba, and features the basic pattern and also some improvisation that would be played in son montuno. http://salsablanca.com/products/el_tres_cubano

As organist/choirmaster, I lead the congregation and choirs in this traditional Palm Sunday Children's Processional, "All Glory, Laud, and Honor." Learn to play Cuban Music, the Cuban Laud & Guajira

For more information visit http://salsablanca.com/ethno/ Learn about the Cuban laud and learn a traditional Punto Guajiro pattern. Guajira is in the son family and is most identified with the song Guajira Guantanamera which itself is an adaptation of peasant music played in Guantanamo. For this reason the repeating pattern and minor variations are all similar and mainly the lyrics change. This music is almost always played as a non-syncopated pattern in 1,4,5 that repeats and usually has a harmonic change using some substitution chords as a B section. This was recorded at the Escuela Nacional de Artes in Havana Cuba, and features the basic pattern that would be played in guajira. Learn to play Cuban Music, the Cuban Laud & Punto Guajiro

For more information visit http://salsablanca.com/ethno/ Learn about the Cuban laud and learn a traditional Punto Guajiro pattern. Punto Guajiro is peasant music from the western part of the island. It was used as party music, much as rumba was in the cities and changüi was in the east. It has different ensemble instrumentation depending on the area and also what was available. This music is almost always played in 6/8 time and there are several stylistic variations, the most common being punto libre and punto fijo. In punto libre, the band stops as the singer sings and the laud plays fills. In punto fijo the band does not stop. This was recorded at the Escuela Nacional de Artes in Havana Cuba, and features the basic pattern and also some improvisation that would be played in punto libre. http://salsablanca.com/products/el_tres_cubano

All Glory, Laud and Honor

Another different arrangement of a classic hymn on the 3-manual, 38-rank Casavant Organ of the Trinity Reformed church, Abbotsford, B.C. Arrangement is more of a march/processional... On this occasion, I had the privilege of meeting up with fellow Youtuber, 'organnut'. Was a fantastic time and also beneficial as the camera was not sat in one spot as in my previous videos. ;o) So thanks to Roy for being the camera-man who's done an excellent job. Look forward to getting together again!

Hukilau '07~ Marina's Tiki Pearl Diving Swim, Ft. Laud. FL

(Sheraton Yankee Clipper, Ft. Lauderdale, FL) The Wreck Bar's own Marina the Mermaid (In the foreground wearing the dark green/white sarong and retro round dive mask) swims with her fellow Pearl Divers, Kali (in yellow/white) and Kani'ela (in pink/white) at the Yankee Clipper for Hukilau 2007. Danger lurks in the depths- in the form of the Evil Hate Monkey (trixielittle.com). Reminiscent of the old performances that took place at the Yankee Clipper in the 1950's and early 60's, it is a Marina's nod to the classic Ft. Lauderdale the golden age of tourism. Look for Marina's Pearl Diving swims again for Hukilau 2008!
