PLEASE SUPPORT AN INVESTIGATION ON THE MISUSE OF THE INTERIOR OF THE PALACE AND PLEASE READ: A video I made reviewing the many historical inaccuracies of a "film" about Princess Ka'iulani (so many I could make an entire series out of the inaccuracies). By the way I'm listening this as a comedy because that's how I think of the movie and I refuse to put the name Ka'iulani on the tags because its really not about Ka'iulani. I personally don't think the title and the casting is as much of a problem as the script and the location shooting. The use of the interior of 'Iolani Palace was totally unncessary for the shooting. The interior of the Palace is decorated in the 1891-1892 time frame. Ka'iulani would not recognize the interior of the Palace because she had left for England already. Queen Lili'uokalani began redecorating the Palace in December, 1891 including redecorating the Blue Room (where some of the scenes of the movie was set) and Ka'iulani never lived at the Palace or even stay there. When she did visit the Palace, she visited the Pink Bungalow not the main Palace building. What is to stop any other producer from making a badly made and loosely historical movie inside the Palace by some self proclaimed director? Furthermore with all the dirt that was thrown in the front of the Palace during the filming, did someone check the aircons of the Palace? With that much dirt, dust could become a problem for the biofilters. The Department of Land and Natural Resources, the Friends of 'Iolani Palace, and the Hawai'i Film Office should be ashamed for unneccessarily harming the preservation efforts of this unique historical monument. May Her late Royal Highness, Princess Victoria Kawekiu i Lunalilo Kalaninuiahilapalapa Kaʻiulani Cleghorn rest in peace.

UPDATE January 2008: The cabinet did not belong to Princess Ka'iulani, but was instead commissioned for her aunt, the Queen Lili'uokalani. The Queen's console was designed around the last line of Her most famous melody, ALOHA 'OE (1878), "the birds oft love to dwell amongst the Roses of Mauna-Wili". Idolizing Queen Victoria and ever-embracing the ways of the West, Liliuokalani has a documented history of quoting Shakespeare to strengthen a point. Following these traits, the headboard quotes Shakespeare's King Henry the 4th. A songwriter's console, there are 2 decades of Liliuokalani's musical notations on the interior of the cabinet. The lowest layer of handwriting (earliest sample) appears to be by her husband, John Owen Dominus (d. 1891). Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle have each confirmed Queen Victoria commissioned pieces from this cabinetmaker to give as gifts. The King Henry the IV quote is a political statement: A Royal Proclamation, "AND SHE WILL SING THE SONG THAT PLEASETH YOU" with na pua rose, representing the Hawaiian people, on either side. Reaching San Francisco in 1883, by 1888 Aloha 'Oe was a mega hit worldwide. It is still the most famous Hawaiian song ever written. Lili'uokalani's Aloha 'Oe was popular! King Kalakaua is saying, "My successor (my choice) will sing the song that pleaseth you. She's the one, she will bring you happiness". Previously unknown, research will continue for years to come. Finding out which old Honolulu estate it came out of is crucial to the research. Her console is in museum quality. There is every indication that it has had but one owner since it left the Queen's possession. Finding out who had been caring for it these last 100 years will tell us how & when it left Her possession and determine if its home was Washington Place or Iolani Palace.
