What's going on in Poledancefan's Basement? Just some pesky joists and floorboards that need reinforcing? Or a necessary pre-cursor to the erection* of some new hardware? Oak boards are extremely strong. They are also very expensive (six dollars for a three foot piece--12 for both). I nailed a board along the side of each floor support to add strength. The idea is to reinforce the existing boards against twisting and shearing forces caused by a 190 pound weight. Or a piece of metal scaffolding or cylindrical conduit or pipe. My son adamantly refuses to be in any video I put on You-Tube (well, can you blame him?) But his wonderful piano playing got caught by accident on the soundtrack--very muffled, coming through the floor. He was practicing hymns (he also plays church organ). There is a room in everyone's house that is filled with crap. Anytime you need to get rid of something, but don't want to throw it away, down it goes to the junkroom in the basement. This is that room in our house. Did you know we have two entire dining room table sets down there, board games from the 1950's, a punching bag, and hundreds of old Physics, Chemistry, and Biology textbooks. Does anybody keep a fat wardrobe--i.e., old clothes from before your diet? I found an old pair of my dress pants with a 38" waist. Now that's scary! Certainly there must be a better use for this space (No, POLEGEMS, not a dungeon!!--LOL).
