The Marching Illini, including Chief Illiniwek, preform the Three In One.

From Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois in Urbana: the University of Illinois has decided to retire Chief Illiniwek as the symbol of its fighting spirit after 80 years of service. The Chief's final performance was on the basketball court on February 21st. We bring you his final appearance at the University's Memorial Stadium during halftime of the Illinois-Purdue football game.

The Next Dance performed by Chief Illiniwek XXXVII Logan Ponce. It took place at Assembly Hall November 15, 2008. Put on by the Students for Chief Illiniwek. Estimated 9000 supporters, and 25 protesters. Not supported by the U of I. This Dance was a culmination of a multimedia presentation, including videos and former Chiefs.

I made this video to share with others my feelings about Chief. He means more to the University of Illinois than a simple mascot. He is a proud tradition of the university.

Chief's second to last performance

Logan Ponce took the court as the 37th Chief Illiniwek on November 15th, 2008. As an estimated 9,000 people and 30 protesters showed up to the event to see 9 former Chief's, retrospective footage and The Chief's Next Dance. Although there were 2 twists to the dance it is the dance we all know. Logan Ponce wore a replica to the real Chief Illiniwek costume. And another twist was added only to the replica which was that he wore Indian shoes. The Chief Illiniwek tradition has NOT ended. It has just began.
