How the Body Works The Left Hemisphere In this illustration we will see the left hemisphere of the brain from three different views. Here, the brain is seen in a cross section from the side with the right hemisphere removed. Here is a frontal elevation of the hemispheres. The solid red patches indicate some of the areas involved with the control and production of language. Language areas on the surface of the left hemisphere are shown here. Broca's area is involved in the motor control of speech, and Wernickes's area in more general language control. Naming and writing are controlled by other areas.

i took a set of photos of constellations that lie along the milky way and are prominent in the summer sky in the northern hemisphere. constellation outlines are done in green; names of stars (or planet) are in other colors. all photos were taken at the same scale, so you can directly compare the size of one constellation with another. constellations mentioned are scorpius (the scorpion), sagittarius (the archer), aquila (the eagle), sagitta (the arrow), delphinus (the dolphin), cygnus (the swan -- also contains the northern cross), and lyra (the lyre). the bright stars which you should use as your guides are antares, and the members of the summer triangle -- vega, deneb and altair. if you need help locating these stars for your location, try http://www.skyviewcafe.com/ -- free planetarium software that runs in your browser. the best time to look for these constellations is around 1 am local time at the end of june, 11 pm local time at the end of july, and 9 pm local time at the end of august. this is when they will be closest to overhead. thanks to julia and her family for making this vacation and the photo opportunities possible.

I plan to upload a different video clip every week or so, of either a routine from my show or something under development. I figure I have enough material to hold out for a few months before I have to franticly start writing new routines. I started with Hemisphere, because it is the first truly original routine I developed and kind of kick started me in this crazy business. It all started with a salad bowl at a party. It stayed on the back burner for years until I saw a 3-foot diameter acrylic bowl in a plastic shop on Canal Street in New York City. Needless to say the bowl was immediately purchased and strapped to the roof of my car. Ninety percent of my next 9 months was spent in the garage studio. I quit my engineering job a year later. My favorite Carpathian Forest song with a slide show of pictures of Norway...sort of goes with the lyrics... Lyrics: The night is cold and brilliantly clear. Peak after peak of glorious ice mountains rose into the dome of the darkened skies. Jagged crystal teeth squeezed between the depths of the jet-black fjords. The mountains lost their sharpness and became soft and blue-tinged as the great winter day. Which would grow on to be a dim twilight that glimmered slowly to life. Above the peaks the Polar sky flickered with the ghostly radiance of the northern light. A frozen lake discharge into an equally frozen stream. The cold is cruel and unforgiving like the landscape.
