Hellenism

Matthew Arnold sums up Hellenism as follows in his Culture and Anarchy: The uppermost idea with Hellenism is to see things as they really are; the uppermost idea with Hebraism is conduct and obedience. Nothing can do away with this ineffaceable difference. The Greek quarrel with the body and its desires is, that they hinder right thinking; the Hebrew quarrel with them is, that they hinder right acting. The governing idea of Hellenism is spontaneity of consciousness; that of Hebraism, strictness of conscience. Enjoy the song by Pantelis Thalassinos Ioulios Porthetes, which is a tribute to the month of July, taken from his cd To Kalantari (the Calendar). You truly must be Greek to understand how great he is. Most of the art is by Antoine-Auguste-Ernest Hebert.

Macedonia : The Hellenism of Macedon

Encyclopedia Britannica : Ancient remains that have been discovered in Aiani prove that the ancient Hellenistic Macedonian society spoke and wrote in Greek. It is widely suggested today, that Macedonians were originally a Greek tribe that was until the 5th century BC relatively isolated from the bulk of Greek civilization. This is derived from studies on early Macedonian religious, political and cultural traditions which could be safely recognisable as Greek and traced back to Homeric times. During their isolation Macedonians inevitably received Thraco-Illyrian influences and, as in the case of the Aetolians, they were regarded by many Greeks as "foreigners" or even "barbarians". (Britannica, Wilcken, Friedell, Abel, Hammond). That assumption seems to be in agreement with Herodotus' theories regarding the Doric origin of Macednoi, as well as the 5th century Persian characterisation "Yauna Takabara" (Greeks wearing hats). Greek was the language of official discourse and public inscriptions used in Macedonia in classical times. All of the over 6000 inscriptions found in Macedonia until now are in Greek. What language did these `Macedones' speak? The name itself is Greek in root and in ethnic termination. It probably means `highlanders', and it is comparable to Greek tribal names such as `Orestai' and `Oreitai', mean ing 'mountain-men'. A reputedly earlier variant, `Maketai', has the same root, which means `high', as in the Greek adjective makednos or the noun mekos... At the turn of the sixth century the Persians described the tribute-paying peoples of their province in Europe, and one of them was the `yauna takabara', which meant `Greeks wearing the hat'. There were Greeks in Greek city-states here and there in the province, but they were of various origins and not distinguished by a common hat. However, the Macedonians wore a dis tinctive hat, the kausia. We conclude that the Persians believed the Macedonians to be speakers of Greek. Finally, in the latter part of the fifth century a Greek historian, Hellanicus, visited Macedonia and modi fied Hesiod's genealogy by making Macedon not a cousin, but a son of Aeolus, thus bringing Macedon and his descendants firmly into the Aeolic branch of the Greek-speaking family. Hesiod, Persia, and Hellanicus had no motive for making a false statement about the language of the Macedonians, who were then an obscure and not a powerful people. Their independent testimonies should be accepted as conclusive.

The Values of Hellenism: Pericles' Funeral Oration

I think this perfect song of Pantelis Thalassinos Glykoparamythenia (ΓΛΥΚΟΠΑΡΑΜΥΘΕΝΙΑ) is perfect to accompany the deep reverence and profound patriotic love that are found in Pericles's funeral oration. I recommend to all to read the section for youserlves, found in History of Peloponnesian War, by Thucydides.

The Order Of Truth EXPOSED

Seriously, these guys need to at least learn the history of their idols... It is a well known fact that Alexander The Great was bisexual. He had both male and female lovers. He may have been married to a woman, or women, but most married men back in those times had male lovers on the side. Homosexuality/Bisexuality was believed to increase comraderie, trust, and acceptance among Greek soldiers. (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Was+Alexander+The+Great+a+homosexual%3F&start=10&sa=N) Zues, along with many other Greek Gods were said to have had lovers of both sexes. Some of the Greek Gods even had sex with animals. Also their hero Hitler that they idolize so much was even rumoured to be bisexual as well. Everyone knows that effeminate homosexuals were executed in death camps, however, it was rumored that that Nazi soldiers, along with the entire Nazi regime enjoyed the pleasure of muscular, burly, men. It was also rumored that Hitler himself had molested one of his neices. To boot he was even part Jewish. The order of truth has also attacked James (wiccanteenboy), James (sinfultictac), and Bertie (heathenmomma). They think by burning and beating our pictures with stick that it will frighten us. Also I address all three videos that these hoaxes and frauds have made against me. Check my playlist "Videos About Me" for all three of them. The Constantinian Dynasty

The song is Soubeti and the Dance with kerchiefs (Soymbeti manthlato), taken from the Guardians of Hellenism, VOL 6, THRACE. The paintings are mostly from Jules Joseph Lefebvre. The Christian paintings are from Antonio da Correggio. The Gladiator one is from Gerome. The beginning of Byzantium starts with three Illyrian Emperors and this dynasty lasted from 306-363 CE. Constantine the Great, from Moesia, was part of the Illyrian military men who rose to power like Diocletian. He converted to Christianity and proceeded to make it the official state religion. He undertook measures to unify the Roman empire under this new political faith, often resorting to assimilating pagan festivities into Christian ones. shown in this video is the Chi Rho symbol, the first two letters of the word Christos (messiah). Constantine is said to have seen this symbol over the battlefield assuring him that with it he will be victorious. It often appears with two extra Greek letters, the Alpha and Omega, alluding the words of Christ in the book of Revelation. Constantine II, son of Constantine the Great. Mostly spent his reign fighting rebellions and foreign invasions from Persia, but theological debates were also among his interests. He continued his father Christianization of the Roman empire. Julian, often called the Apostate. He wanted to return to the pagan religions and philosophies of the Roman empire. He died fighting the Persians, so his ambitions remained unfulfilled. He was the last pagan emperor. Hope everyone enjoys it!

Pontos: Sing for Trebizond

The song is from the Guardians of Hellenism VOL.4, Pontos & Cappadocia. It carries well the power of loss, and the love of land felt by Pontians. Tsabasin burnt down: Xenophon Akoglous, in his 'Folklore of Kotyora', informs us that the song was written in 1913 on the event of the great fire which destroyed Tsabasi, a lovely resort built at an altitude of 2,000 meters, 45 km from Kotyora. Singer: Sophia Sinopoulou Tsabasin burnt down, not even bare walls left, the young men of Ordou rushed to save it. A great fire in Tsabasin, not a house left standing. Young and old, poor and rich, all sat weeping. The slopes were smoking, the springs ran dry, Ashes heaped high, great houses destroyed. The lambs and sheep, the glens, the slopes, The springs and wells, all are to be pitied. The poor birds are weeping, the lovely fir trees are weeping. Tsabasin burnt down, nothing's left standing, my bird, Hills and valleyes will no more grow grass. It's burnt and gone, the country-side of Ordou, And nothing's left there save only ashes.
