A great bullmoose with 12 spike antlers in Härjedalen, Sweden oct 4, 2008. The moose charges a small pine tree. Heavy rain disturb the sound.

This is a halling from Härjedalen adopted from Per Myhr (1843-1945). I play it on the spilåpipa (a type of Swedish herding flute). The spilåpipa have 7 or 8 finger holes, but no hole for the thumb. Halling is a type of tune that accompanies the dance with the same name. A very acrobatic dance indeed. It´s danced manily in Norway, but is also danced is some parts of Sweden. Swedish traditional folk music electrified and played by the Swedish group Kebnekajse, most active in the 70's, but are still active today. This tune was taken from the 1993 recollection album "Electric Mountain", but was first found on the 1975 album "Kebnekajse III".

A little demonstration on how the Swedish traditional shepards flute called Härjedalspipa sound. It has a distinct hissing sound, "blue" tones and it really make you feel like you are standing somewhere in the deep Swedish forrest of Härjedalen. Because of the non-tempered scale you here can hear how the sometimes so-called Swedish "blues" sounds like. The tune is a traditional shepards tune (probably played on a cow horn once upon a time, of course much slower and with less notes) from the district where this flute originates.
