FINAL PART: THE FUTURE...? On completing this film in October 1991, it was obvious to me that the council doing up the houses and "planting bushes and trees and what not" wasn't truly going regenerate the town. The question I asked myself was 'But where are the jobs going to come from?' In 2008, it still is. Regeneration has failed swathes of the working class on Teesside and the 'underclass' is the consequence. Our great and good had no solutions. The statistics remained so horrifying that they had to invent the "Tees Valley" to create the illusion that it all was sweet and that notorious Teesside / Cleveland was what it "used to be like". Well I don't buy it and I don't buy Mallon's (fake!) designer label town either with it's neon lights, chrome lamp posts and fancy art gallery. It's all smoke n mirrors people - we're being conned!!! Teesside is top of the premier league as ever for deprivation in the U.K. and multi-national chemical and steel mega-corporations are making a fortune out of the place!!!
