Here we have a glow plug installed into a conventional contra-piston. That means that the bottom of the CP is flat unlike the glow version of this device. That version has a semi trumpet head. In this case, the engine still needed to be overcompressed to start. It behaved much the same as when running on a conventional contr-piston arrangement. Power is down some 500 RPM but idle is somewhat smoother and transition is improved. Energizing the glow plug while starting from cold didn't help in the least. On ONE occasion, when the engine was quite warm, it did affect a start when otherwise it wouldn't but again, we needed heat in the cylinder for a start. Heat, heat, heat.

Managed to "fix" the glow plug timer on my 94 Opel Vectra. And it appears that it is not just only the head-gasket thats causing trouble. It seems that there something with the valves, by something called "Shims" (I know how to replace them). But I will continue to start the engine regulary (every two months or so), to recharge the battery and make sure the engine does not "catch a cold". About 0 degrees ( C ) at the cold-start in the end A bit hard start there... Miss-spelled something in the video. Just so you know that I know!

Change the glow plugs on a 306 d turbo, this will work on any XUD based diesel engine. Highly recommend doing for any cold start problems!

UPDATE - The problem was caused by a TDC PowerBoxCR. When I removed it, it started no problem, 1 glow-plug cycle, in -21C weather. Trying to start my smart fortwo cdi (Diesel) on a mild Canadian morning (-20 C). Took 3 attempts and 10 cycles of the glow plugs, but it finally started :)
