Steam returned to the WEST HIGHLAND line some years ago, so watch while a steam hauled train crosses the viaduct where Harry Potter in his flying car nearly came to grief. Then see my very close encounter with 2 magnificent MONARCHS OF THE GLEN while walking back from the viaduct. Scotland is just too beautiful.

Jacobite Steam Train on Glenfinnan Viaduct

The Jacobite steam train runs every weekday in the summer from Fort William to Mallaig and back in the Scottish Highlands, crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct en route, the viaduct made famous in the Harry Potter films as the Hogwarts Express crosses it. In fact, the loch at Glenfinnan (behind the video taker) is the one on which the castle is superimposed.

Glenfinnan viaduct and Jacobite Steam Train

The famous Glenfinnan viaduct from the Jacobite steam train on our journey from Inverie on Knoydart, Scotland back to Glasgow. We took a ferry from Inverie, the most remote village in mainland Britain to Mallaig. From Mallaig we rode the Jacobite steam train to Fort William from where we got a regular rail journey back to Glasgow. The steam train and Glenfinnan viaduct apparently featured in one of the Harry Potter films. The Glenfinnan monument is briefly visible by the loch.

30th August 2008 marked the final Saturday run of the steam hauled Jacobite train between Fort William and Mallaig. This video was shot leaving Glenfinnan on the return journey, with K1 62005 running tender first at the head of the train.
