Criticisms to Functionalism : Quantum Fallacies

Here I dissect one of Stuart Hameroff's interviews and his criticisms of a functionalist perspective. I feel Hameroff grossly misrepresents the functionalist position and his arguments contain many logical flaws. He is still stuck in quasi-Cartesian thinking and his dialogue reflects these assumptions. I do not feel I took Mr. Hameroff out of context and would have addressed a few more of his points. I encourage you to check out the interview for yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4y8mTRqXAo

AKA-AKA Contemporary Oriental functionalism

Detail Architect and designer Eakrit Pradissuwana, (see biography) created AKA with one thing in mind, "I wanted people to come and spend time here. They can look around and treat the space like it's their home. AKA is about living. You have to experience the space to know if our design is good for your lifestyle." "Contemporary oriental functionalism" is the core of AKA design philosophy. "It's never enough that something looks good. It has to work as beautifully as it looks." This design philosophy applies to all the pieces found in AKA. He captures the essence of the past and intertwines it with the fabrics and materials of the present, blending antiquity into forms that represent modernity. Functionalism Destroys Religion

Input - Process - Output. Must reiterate that i'm talking not about general functionalism, but the functionalist model of mind, or theory of mind. basically the very small part of it which says 'input-process-output'.

Is consciousness subjective?

A response to some of 0ThouArtThat0 points raised in the following videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtRejbeSNww&feature=user http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_UeFX5BIuc&feature=user I briefly skim over what I think are some of the main differences between the views held by ThouArtThat and myself. Highlighting perhaps some issues for further discussion. I agree with a panexeriencial ontology but do not think it provides enough useful insight to distinguish "entities" that we consider conscious from "entities" that we do not. The following paper poses some views that perhaps we both agree upon. And is partly influenced by panexperiencialism, enactive/sensory motor/embodied approaches, functionalism etc. (Do not let the neo-realist label put you off too much! There are a few important issues raised here!) http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~uctytho/ManzottiPdf.pdf Oh and a brief point I mentioned about patterns and set theory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4S1xQe3ahk

Ned Block on Multiple Realizability

Multiple realizability (MR) refers to having a possibility of realizing a specific mental state with various physical state. For example, MR says that a mental state like seeing red, can be realized in many physical states. Ned Block says that this is a real problem for reductive physicalists. I think that Block's opinion on this matter is by no means conclusive. Legitimacy of MR is still debated by reductive physicalists and non-reductive physicalists.
