Took some videos during a recent trip to Northern Arizona of some BNSF action on the Transcon. While not the optimal light, shooting was limited because of the mud from recent snow melts. We actually got stuck in the red mud shown in the first clip....and in the last few clips, are standing on the old Route 66, which continues another half mile or so and ends.

15 Colby College students in Professor Herb Wilson's Winter Ecology course headed north to Flagstaff Lake in Maine for the culmination of their Jan Plan program. They all built snow huts (Quinzhees), and all but one student spent the night in the huts. Two slept comfortably -- the one in the lodge and the one whose cave was small enough to stay warm with body heat. Here's video from one hut that was too big. My Dad & I took a trip out to Flagstaff, AZ, for some Transcon Train Chasing. I wasn't able to film every train, but I did manage to get some good videos of the ones I did. First we see the West Carry Pond from the western side, thought to be the spot where many of Arnold's 1775 Quebec invasion force came ashore after rowing across from the eastern bank. The next scene is from the top of the ridge between the Western Carry Pond and Lake Flagstaff, which can be seen in the distant west. Arnold's patriot army passed through this area on their way to the lake.
