Muscle Fasciculation
This video shows my hand's fasciculations. These strange symptom started two years ago after a thyroid surgery followed by an strong infection. This involuntary movements occurs in almost all body's muscles. The only thing that I took and seems to help is drink tonic water and take magnesium pills in a daily basis. I have been tested for lyme, endocrine hormones, neurological diseases and other things but until now I don't have a diagnosis. |

Symptoms Updated
This video is a very good display of Carol's technique and the skill she uses with all her clients. Short clips have been added to the original to illustrate how difficult it is for Bill to perform mundane tasks. A DVD disc of this video is used to display Bill's symptoms to doctors who examine him. Since Bill does not always display the same symptoms during an office visit, Carol captured them on a day when they were clearly visible. Most doctors really appreciate having the video, as a picture tells them so much more than a few minutes in the examination room. |

Fasciculations
Fasciculations in my right brachii. I'm 23 years old, male, from Sweden and always healthy before I started having these muscle problems more than 5 years ago. I have fasciculations 24/7, chronic pain and stiffnes in my muscles. I've had three EMG examinations which showed fasciculations in all muscles. Nerve conduction was normal. All blood work has been normal except for a one-time elevated CK. Muscle biopsy showed nothing apart from a small rease internal muscle seeds. |

Re: [For clarification] Fasciculations
BEFORE THE MUSCLE PROBLEMS Just in case you might watch the fasciculations video and think "This kid doesn't look like he used to do 'intense exercise' ", these are just a few pictures I took when I was in shape. For clarification of "dietary restriction", I weighed 100lbs (45kg) in these pictures at 5'6" (1.68m) tall. Just a year and a half before that, I had never lifted a weight and was 95 pounds at the same height; I was thin like a rail. My body fat percentage was so low that whenever I used the hand-held electrical impedance machine at the gym, it would give me an error message because the reading was below its scale. In the fasciculations video, I had gained ~13lbs because I have not been able to exercise for a year. Any comments are appreciated. |

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (A.L.S) Commercial/PSA
In collaboration with the Advertising Program at Centennial College. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, sometimes called Maladie de Charcot, or, in the United States, Lou Gehrig's Disease) is a progressive, usually fatal, neurodegenerative disease caused by the degeneration of motor neurons, the nerve cells in the central nervous system that control voluntary muscle movement. As a motor neuron disease, the disorder causes muscle weakness and atrophy throughout the body as both the upper and lower motor neurons degenerate, ceasing to send messages to muscles. Unable to function, the muscles gradually weaken, develop fasciculations (twitches) because of denervation, and eventually atrophy because of that denervation. The patient may ultimately lose the ability to initiate and control all voluntary movement except of the eyes. This add reflects on the possible loss of the use of your legs. Horrible disease that needs to be treated. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lou_gehrigs_disease Broadcast and Film unit: Producer, Camera Operation: Jay Drakul Director: Vanessa Samuel Camera Operation, Lighting and Editing: Kyle Surowicz |

Fasciculations
Sorry if the video quality is not that great. The clarity of it really depends on how your monitor is adjusted. I'm 19 years old, male, and always healthy before I started having these muscle problems more than 2 years ago. I was hit by a car while riding my bike just prior to the beginning of the symptoms, but at this point it is uncertain what relation the accident had to the onset of my symptoms. I also have a history of very intense exercise and dietary restriction to maintain weight for wrestling and other sports. For clarification of this, you can see the video response that I posted. I've had four EMG examinations which showed abnormalities including very high-amplitude MUP's in some muscles, polyphasic MUP's in many muscles, and even some low-amplitude MUP's in certain muscles. Nerve conduction was normal in all 4 limbs. I also had an MRI done of the cervical spine which came back normal. All blood work has been normal except for a one-time elevated CK. I discovered from a muscle biopsy that I have a partial CPT2 deficiency. It was intially thought that this might explain my muscle pain and stiffness, but it turns out that is not the full story. I likely have something else going on. |
