The Estonian armed forces with its weapons and equipment on military exercises and man oeuvres. Not all video clips are filmed in Estonia. During the video creation we carefully checked every weapon type and also made the list which types and units Estonia has. Therefore some clips may not be 100% accurate but the idea remains the same. We have similar weapon systems as shown in the borrowed clips. This video shows the armed forces on the year of 2007. The Estonian Defensive Forces had to rebuilt from the beginning due to the Soviet occupation. With 16 years the Estonian Military has made through a huge development.

This unit had its origins in the Estonian SS Legion which was first formed on the 28th of August, 1942. Wikipedia: Division - Battles at Narva In January 1944, the 20. Estnische SS-Freiwilligen-Division began formation. The majority of the troops were drawn from the 3. Estnische SS-Freiwilligen Brigade, however elements from Ost Battalions Nr. 658, also known as Pups of Rebane (="Fox") and Nr. 659, the 287.Polizei-Füsilier-Bataillon and the returned Estonian volunteers of the Finnish army unit Infantry Regiment 200 were also absorbed into the division. On 8 February 1944, the division was attached to SS-Gruppenführer Felix Steiner's III SS (Germanic) Panzer Corps, currently defending the heavily pressured Narva bridgehead. The division was to replace the remnants of the 9. and 10.Luftwaffe-Feld-Divisions, which were struggling to hold the line against a Soviet bridgehead near Siivertsi. Upon arriving at the front on 20 February, the Estonians were immediately ordered to eradicate the threatening Siivertsi Soviet bridgehead. In nine days of heavy fighting, the division had pushed the Soviets back across the river, and restored the line. The division remained stationed in the Ssivertsi sector, being engaged in heavy combat. In May, the division was pulled back and reformed as the 20. Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS (estnische Nr.1), and the returned Narwa battalion was absorbed into the division as the reconnaissance abteilung. By that time active conscription of Estonian men into the German armed forces was well under way, in violation of the international law of war. By spring 1944, approximately 32 000 men were drafted into the German forces, with the 20. Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS (estnische Nr.1) consisting of some 15 000 men. When Steiner ordered a withdrawal to the Tannenbergstellung on July 25, the division was deployed on the Kinderheim-höhe, the first line of defence for the new position. Over the next month, the division was engaged in heavy defensive battles on the Kinderheim and Grenadier-höhe. In mid-August, the division's 45th Estland and 46th regiments were formed into Kampfgruppe Vent and sent south to help defend the Emajogi river line, seeing heavy fighting. When Hitler authorised a full withdrawal from Estonia in mid September, all men who wished to stay to defend their homes were released from service. Many chose this offer, fighting the Soviets alongside other Estonians and then withdrawing into the forests to become the Forest Brothers. Severely weakened by this, the division was withdrawn to Neuhammer to be refitted. Vistula-Oder Offensive - Final battles Eventually, the reformed division numbered roughly 11,000 Estonians and 2,500 Germans. It was returned to the line in late February, just in time for the Soviet Vistula-Oder Offensive. This offensive forced the German forces back behind the Oder and Neisse rivers. The division was pushed back to the Neisse, taking heavy casualties. The division was then trapped with the XI. Armeekorps in the Oberglogau - Falkenberg - Friedberg area. On 17 March, the division launched a major escape attempt, but despite making headway, the attempt failed. On 19 March, the division tried again, this time succeeding but leaving all heavy weapons and equipment behind in the pocket. In April 1945, the shattered remnants of the division were moved south to the area around Goldberg. After the final Soviet offensive, the division attempted to break out in the west, in order to surrender to the western Allies. After marching over the Reichenberg and Annaberg mountains, the division was encircled by Russian forces and capitulated on May 8. Some of the Estonians who had reached the western allies were handed back to the Soviets. The survivors could, at best, expect a lengthy stay in the Gulags. In contrast, some veterans of the Estonian Legion served as guards under American leadership at the Nuremberg Nazi war crimes trials. -- The Baltic Schutzmannschaft found themselves in a unique situation, they saw the Germans as liberators from Bolshevism. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were occupied by the Soviet Union for slightly over a year and had experienced the brutality of the Soviets hence a passionate zeal against Bolshevism. The fighting in and around Narva, Estonia was also known as the "Battle of the European SS" since it involved a great number of foreign members in the Waffen-SS.

Est.Schutzmannschafts-Front-Btl. 36: --------------------------------------- On his way to Salingrad a railroad train of Est.Schutzmannschafts-Front-Btl. 36 fall under soviet mortar fire in the railway station Surovikino 08.30 in the morning of 22.11.1942. Some actions come about already by north outskirt of Surovikino. Btl. was quickly unloaded and 09.30 on the defense positions. After attack actions at 15.00 Btl. went over to defense on the line Nizny Osinovski, Lukitsevski, Starikovski, Zirkov. At the evening co. of btl. maj. Julius Renter felling out and commanding of battalion taking over oberleutenant Harald Riipalu. And there were 42 persons, who got Iron Cross, among them also Harald Riipalu, who later became Knights Cross holder. Battalion "Narwa" -------------------- On July 15 1943 the order to go to the front was recived. As a unit of the 5th SS-Armoured Division "Wiking", the Narva Battalion was in the focus of the Red Army's attack near Izjum, Ukraine. The battle of Izjum is the most heroic episode in the whole history of Estonian soldier. The unit entered the battle with 800 men, and only one third were left able to fight. The Red Army, however, suffered heavier losses as they lost over 7,000 men killed and wounded. Plus the fact that over 100 tanks were lost. Estonian SS Legion ------------------- The Estonian Division arrived on the Narva River Front in February 1944, just in time to eliminate a dangerous Soviet bridgehead. The fortunes of war had changed and Soviet invaders were once again threatening the borders of Estonia. The last Prime Minister of Estonia prof Jüri Uluots then broadcasted his famous radio appeal to all Estonia men to mobilize in defence of their country. On the basis of his call-up, conscripts outnumbered the weapons that were available. A headquarters staff was organized under Major General Johannes Soodla to coordinate these efforts. 6 Border Guard Regiments and one reserve regiment were formed - altogether 38,000 men. The Estonian Divison increased to 15,000 men and with separate battalions there were about 75,000 Estonians in the front line in late Summer 1944 defending their homeland against Soviet agression. On September 20, 1944 the Estonian Divison began to march through Latvia and Lithuania to East Prussia. In October 1944 the division began rebuilding at Neuhammer, Silesia. All the other units and men who were able to retreat from Estonia were amalgamated to the Division. In January 1945 the Estonian Divison, now Grenadier, was again in action along the Silesian frontier. Bloody and costly defensive fighting followed as the division sacrificed itself around Breslau and in the Oppeln Pocket in March 1945 where commander Brigadeführer Franz Augsbereger was killed. Estonian Division finally retreated to Hirschberg and participated in even more violent engagements throughout April 1945. In the end some fortunate elements fought their way to the allied lines in the West, other began a one-way trip to the Gulag death camps. During this final battle temporary commander of the division colonel Rebane got oakleafs to the Knight's Cross. During WW II about 14,600 Estonians were killed in German and Finnish uniforms and 10,000 were imprisoned. Cheque terrorist murdered at least 1,300 Estonian POW and no less than 1,500 did not came back from the Soviet camps.

The Zaporozhets (Russian: Запоро́жец, Zaporozhets; Ukrainian: Запорожець, Zaporozhets', Hungarian: Zaporozsec) was a brand name of subcompact cars designed and built from 1958 at the ZAZ factory in Soviet Ukraine ("Zaporozhsky Avtomobilny Zavod", or Zaporozhsky Automobile Factory). Different types of Zaporozhets were produced until 1994.

Since 1995 more than 1200 Estonian soldiers have participated in foreign missions beyond the horizon. By the year 2012 about 8% of the total strength of the Estonian Defence Forces will operate on missions outside the borders of the Republic of Estonia. The acquired combat skills and knowledge will allow to develop and rebuild the armed forces of Estonia along with the modern equipment.
