The Great I AM !!

Ten Commandments The Ten Commandments or Decalogue (10 words) was given by God on Mt. Horeb (also known as Mt. Sinai) to Moses around 1280 BC. They are the core of the moral teachings of Israel and have come down to Christianity as part of Divine Revelation. The Church in commenting on the Commandments sees in them the totality of the negative and positive moral law, the things we should not do, as well as the things we should do. This is to say, they embody the entire natural law, what reason can discover of morality from the nature of the world and man. However, as St. Thomas Aquinas noted, not every society, much less every man, discovers the entire natural law, so God has revealed it in the Commandments so it could be known with certainty by all men, of every society, and every age. The Bible gives two versions of the Ten Commandments, in essential content identical, one in Exodus and another in Deuteronomy. The enumeration of the commandants (which is number one, which is two etc.) are traditional and neither contained in the texts nor obvious. The Catholic Church has traditionally used the Deuteronomy account and followed the division of the text given in the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Scriptures made by second century BC Jews in Egypt and used by the early Church as its Old Testament. The Anglican Church and the Lutheran Church also use this account. The other Reformation churches use the Exodus listing, and adopted the Jewish enumeration of the Hebrew text. The Commandants are probably best known from the traditional formulas used in catechesis.

Interface Grammars for Modular Software Verification

Google Tech Talks June, 4 2008 ABSTRACT Verification techniques that rely on state enumeration (such as model checking) face two important challenges: 1) State-space explosion: exponential increase in the state space with the increasing number of components. 2) Environment generation: modeling components that are either not available for analysis, or that are outside the scope of the verification tool at hand. We propose a semi-automated approach for attacking these two problems. In our approach, interfaces for the components that are outside the scope of the current verification effort are specified using an interface specification language based on grammars. Specifically, an interface grammar for a component specifies the sequences of method invocations that are allowed by that component. We have built an interface compiler that takes the interface grammar for a component as input and generates a stub for that component. The stub generated from the interface grammar of a component can be used to replace that component during state space exploration, either to assuage the state space explosion, or to provide an executable environment for the component that is being verified. In this episode Wess mods the Linksys WRT54G wireless router and adds Power-over-Ethernet functionality. Darren checks out Anywhere.FM which pretty much lives up to its name. And our pal Mubix joins us via Skype for a paranoia inducing look at anonymous enumeration tools online. Plus this month's Trivia, LAN Party, and of course, the saga continues.

Democra$$y

Say what? Democracy? Part 2: The "D" Word (2008 meets 1945) "Governments are constituted to lie to the greatest number of people the greater amount of the time." -- Niccolo Machiavelli (1469-1527; Italian statesman and writer on government) "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained BY THE PEOPLE." - U.S. Constitution, Amendment IX "America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great." - Des Griffin, Descent into Slavery? "You have rights antecedent [i.e., going before, prior (to)] to all earthly governments; rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws; rights derived from [God]." "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." - John Adams (1735-1826; 2nd President of the United States ) "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." (Written in the Historical Review of Pennsylvania in 1759) "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters." (From a letter dated April 17, 1787 ) - Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790; American statesman, inventor, scientist, and writer) "Democracies have ever been the spectacles of turbulence and contention, have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property, and have been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths." "The accumulation of all powers -- legislative, executive, and judiciary -- in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny." "A government that does not trust its law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms is itself unworthy of trust." "It [i.e., the U.S. Constitution] is an agreement among the people to prevent government from becoming so powerful it can abridge fundamental liberties. It guarantees that the government, even when supported by most of the people, cannot deprive us of our rights." "We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all of our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government; upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God." -- James Madison (1751-1836; 4th President of the United States ; author of the Bill of Rights)

Homosexuality and the Bible (2)

1 Timothy 1:8-10: the letters a-f indicate the pattern of putting connected GROUPS of people in the enumeration 1 Tim 1.8 Wir wissen aber, dass das Gesetz gut ist, wenn jemand es gesetzmaessig gebraucht, 1.9 indem er dies weiss, dass fuer einen Gerechten das Gesetz nicht bestimmt ist, sondern fuer (a)Gesetzlose und Widerspenstige, fuer (b)Gottlose und Suender, fuer (c)Heillose und Unheilige, (d)Vatermoerder und Muttermoerder, Moerder, 1.10 (e)*Unzuechtige, *Knabenschaender, Menschenraeuber, (f)Luegner, Meineidige, und wenn etwas anderes der gesunden Lehre entgegensteht, 1.11 nach dem Evangelium der Herrlichkeit des seligen Gottes, das mir anvertraut worden ist. 1 Timothy 1:9-10 (ENGLISH, RSV) A: lawless and disobedient B: ungodly and sinners C: unholy and profane D: murderers of fathers, murderers of mothers, manslayers E: immoral persons (Unzüchtige in Elberfelder), Sodomites (Knabenschänder), kidnappers F: liars, perjurers The Greek for "E" checked: E: pornoi, arsenokoitai, andrapodistai Pornos derives from the verb pernemi meaning "to sell" and the following three definitions are given: 1. a male who prostitutes his body to another's lust for hire 2. a male prostitute 3. a male who indulges in unlawful sexual intercourse, a fornicator Andrapodistes, the stem of the word Andrapodistai, the third word, returns the following definitions: 1. slave-dealer, kidnapper, man-stealer a. of one who unjustly reduces free males to slavery b. of one who steals the slaves of others and sells them. We have, first of all, the enslaved male prostitute, the "male-bedder" (arsenokoitai), and the slave dealer. The New American Bible offers a footnote that might shed some light on the historical context of the time: "The Greek word translated as boy prostitutes may refer to catamites, i.e. boys or young men who were kept for the purposes of prostitution, a practice not uncommon in the Greco-Roman world. In Greek mythology this was the function of Ganymede, the "cupbearer of the gods," whose Latin name was Catamus..." (NAB) ---- additional notes: Lev 18:1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 Speak to the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them: I am the Lord your God. 3 You shall not do according to the custom of the land of Egypt, in which you dwelt: neither shall you act according to the manner of the country of Chanaan, into which I will bring you, nor shall you walk in their ordinances. "For they [Judah] also built for themselves high places, and pillars, and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree; and there were also male cult prostitutes [qadeshim] in the land. They did according to all the abominations [plural of toevah] of the nations which the LORD drove out before the people of Israel." -- 1 Kings 14:23-24 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Religious prostitutes impacted Israel greatly (Deut. 23:17-18; I Ki 14:22-24, 15:11-13, 22:45-46; 2 Ki 23:4-7) ! It seems the theme is all about sexual acts in connection to idolatry, NOT homosexuality as such.
