Lessons in Entitlement Reform
On October 28th, 1997, House Speaker Newt Gingrich and President Bill Clinton held a secret meeting where they reached a groundbreaking deal to create a centrist political coalition to reform Social Security and Medicare. Although the Lewinsky scandal ultimately undermined their agreement, the efforts of these men, and others in Congress, might serve as a model for members of both parties interested in addressing the long-term shortfalls in the nation's entitlement programs. Steven Gillon discussed the details of how this secret agreement came to be, as first revealed in his new book, The Pact: Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, and the Rivalry That Defined a Generation. Gillon was joined by Charles Blahous and Ed Lorenzen, who were involved in bipartisan reform efforts during Clinton's presidency, working on opposite sides of the aisle. The panelists discussed what can be learned from the reform efforts of the 1990s, and address the question of whether, and in what political environment, entitlement reform is possible. |

Bill Richardson slams Clinton Royal Dynasty, entitlement
Bill Richardson slams Bush-Clinton Royal Dynasty and entitlement. Stop the Drama - Vote Obama!!! -------------------------------------------- There are cycles in American history wherein the richest and most powerful people who actually own and run this country make there greatest effort to elect a true corporatocracy candidate. They literally steal the election, if need be. They install their witless, pliant factotums and they start skimming. They order even more expensive things we don't need. They relax regulations to the point where there are essentially no regulations at all. They might even start a war, if the can get away with it. If questionable people happen to be in the country taking flying lessons without learning how to land and you don't bother to investigate them, you increase the chances you may get away with it. I had once considered John McCain an ultimately acceptable choice for president. I thought that, compared to the other Republicans in the field earlier, McCain was a man who had lived a serious life. He had faced serious problems and offered respected solutions to issues such as campaign finance reform. McCain was a war hero, a US Senator and maverick in a party that often didn't know what to make of people like John McCain. But mavericks don't make it to the highest echelons of the GOP. That is how we got stuck with this Bush. John McCain has changed. He drank the Kool-Aid, the one they served as baby formula in the Bush home all those years ago. McCain will be Bush Three. I was wrong about him. He has velcroed his lips to the ass of the elephant and he's gonna keep kissing until a second term would end. In order to ascend to the highest ranks of the Republican Party, you have got to realize that the current size and scope of the budget of the federal government is the greatest opportunity for the personal enrichment of the upper class in this country since the turn of the previous century or the period around World War II. As much as any industry that brings its products to market, selling your goods and services to the US government, and particularly the military, is a chance to make staggering and heretofore unseen profits. The current budget of the US Defense Department is the most shameful misappropriation of American tax dollars in our nation's history There are periods in American history when the haves just knock the have-nots to the ground and say,"Enough." They push the government into greater debt. They sign unconscionable mortgages for future generations. They lie and tell the American people that to get out of the convoluted military quagmire would only threaten us more. Threaten our children. Their future. When their friends run into trouble, they bail them out. No, I mean we bail them out. They decide. We simply do the paying. Bill Clinton killed welfare as we knew it. Maybe its time had come. I was hoping that both Clintons would have condemned the Bear Stearns deal in the harshest terms. No such luck. But, if Bush Three is wrong, terrifyingly wrong, then is Clinton Three any better? Who do you think really has the guts to stand against the most potent special interests who truly care more about the dollar than the flag? We don't have a draft in this country in order keep politics out of military policy. For too many Americans, the truth is that, "My child isn't over there. That's all I care about." The fact that there has not been one great, national day of protest against this war will surely come back to haunt us all. Who will end this war? Obama will end this war. I admire both Bill and Hillary. But the shame and disgrace of how we have treated our own fighting men, not to mention many innocent people in Iraq, weighs more heavily on me now. This country is in deep trouble. We not only need something effective, we need something new. I believe Obama will bring that more that Mrs. Clinton. Busting the Budget: Healthcare Costs or Entitlement Programs
The United States' budget faces significant long-term imbalances. Traditionally, the long-term deficit problem has been described as an entitlements problem, with the projected growth of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid threatening to drive up the national debt to unsustainable levels. Those who subscribe to this belief have warned that considerable tax increases and/or spending cuts will be necessary to address future government shortfalls. Yet others argue that the long-term fiscal situation has been largely misdiagnosed as an entitlement problem rather than a healthcare one. Advocates of this point of view tend to believe that controlling economy-wide healthcare cost growth is the best approach to reforming the U.S. budget. |

Why did Clinton lose? Sexism, entitlement, or Billary factor
Many women I talk to, even those who aren't particularly fond of Hillary, feel empathy for her, knowing that any woman in a world dominated by men has to walk a tightrope between femininity and masculinity, strength and vulnerability. They see double standards they hate — when male reporters described Hillary's laugh as "a cackle" or her voice as "grating," when Rush Limbaugh goes off on her wrinkles or when male pundits seem gleeful to write her political obituary. Several women I know, who argue with their husbands about Hillary, refer with a shudder to the "Kill the Witch" syndrome... When the usually invulnerable Hillary seems vulnerable, many women, even ones who don't want her to win, cringe at the idea of seeing her publicly humiliated — again. I know that the attacks against powerful women can be harsh and personal and unfair, enough to make anyone cry. But Hillary is not the best test case for women. We'll never know how much of the backlash is because she's a woman or because she's this woman or because of the ick factor of returning to the old Clinton dysfunction. While Obama aims to transcend race, Hillary often aims to use gender to her advantage, or to excuse mistakes. In 1994, after her intransigence and secrecy-doomed health care plan, she told The Wall Street Journal that she was "a gender Rorschach test." "If somebody has a female boss for the first time, and they've never experienced that," she said, "well, maybe they can't take out their hostility against her so they turn it on me." As a possible first Madame President, Hillary is a flawed science experiment because you can't take Bill out of the equation. Her story is wrapped up in her marriage, and her marriage is wrapped up in a series of unappetizing compromises, arrangements and dependencies. Instead of carving out a separate identity for herself, she has become more entwined with Bill. She is running bolstered by his record and his muscle. She touts her experience as first lady, even though her judgment during those years on issue after issue was poor. She says she's learned from her mistakes, but that's not a compelling pitch. As a senator, she was not a leading voice on important issues, and her Iraq vote was about her political viability. She told New York magazine's John Heilemann that before Iowa taught her that she had to show her soft side, "I really believed I had to prove in this race from the very beginning that a woman could be president and a woman could be commander in chief. I thought that was my primary mission." If Hillary fails, it will be her failure, not ours. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/13/opinion/13dowd.html?scp=7&sq=Hillary+Clinton+feminist&st=nyt |

Trinity United Church of Christ - Clitnon White Entitlement!
Another preacher is making national headlines because of controversial remarks. The Reverend Michael Pfleger, a Chicago community activist and priest, mocked Hillary Rodham Clinton's tears just before the New Hampshire Primary. Pfleger made the comments during a sermon Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ, formerly pastored by the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Pfleger, a supporter of Barack Obama, says Clinton cried because she felt ``entitled'' to the Democratic nomination and that a ``black man is stealing my show.'' Obama issued a statement today saying he's ``deeply disappointed'' with Pfleger and that the priest used ``divisive and backward-looking rhetoric.'' Pfleger, who is white and pastors Chicago's predominantly-black Saint Sabina Roman Catholic Church, offered an apology today. He said his words were ``inconsistent with Senator Obama's life and message.'' |

Your American Dream Isn't An Entitlement--It Must Be Earned
Both parties will say they support the American Dream, but Republicans want to ensure equal opportunity. Democrats want to promote more equal results! The Republican Party has always affirmed that the strength of America comes from its citizens, not its government. The American Dream isnt an entitlement or a right; its to be earned anew in each generation. Instead of promising equal results, America has always been about ensuring an "equal opportunity to pursue happiness! Vote Republican for that to continue. |

Rev Michael Pfleger at Trinity UCC, Hillary thinks "I'm white I'm entitled"
Chicago Catholic pastor Dr. Rev. Michael Pfleger, speaking Sunday at Barack Obama's Trinity United Church of Christ, implied Clinton was a white supremacist who believed she would win the nomination because of "white entitlement." Flegler has been a noted spiritual advisor for Barack Obama for decades while he has lived in Chicago. After Michael Pfleger's remarks about Clinton, Otis Moss III thanked Pfleger repeatedly.
