Challenge to Fundies: Moses wrote Genesis?
I'm speaking of the Earthly author, not God. Verses: Abram and Sarai in Egypt: Genesis 12:10-20 Abraham and Sarah in Gerar: Genesis 20:1-18 This story (Genesis 20) is from the Elohist source and it combines elements found in two very similiar but distinct stories of the Yahwist accounts. Isaac and Abimelech in Gerar (the SAME location as the Genesis 20 account): Genesis 26:12-33 The first (1678) true Pentateuchal scholar was Richard Simon, who noticed that Genesis 1 and 2 seemed to differ in syle, and this was found elsewhere in Genesis. In the next century many others found that certain passages constantly called God 'Yahweh' and others 'Elohim'. These coul be be traced as two parallel stories interwoven throughout the Pentateuch all the way to Numbers. By the mid 19th century, it was commonly agreed that there had been three independent versions of the Pentateuch's basic story, which are the Yawhist source, the Elohist source, and the Priestly source. In 1878 Julius Wellhausen published the Prolegomena to the History of Israel, which he brought together all the arguments for the four-source theory, and also proposed dates for the writing of each source. http://www.jcu.edu/Bible/BibleIntroReadings/PPTs/DocHypothesis.ppt http://www.americanbible.org/brcpages/MakingSense http://www.cs.umd.edu/~mvz/bible/doc-hyp.pdf Scholars accepting the Four Source Theory: William H.
