While live at a shipwreck that happened near Duluth, this NBC reporter calls the big thousand foot boat behind her, "a thousand foot shitter"... an easy thing to say when you're talking footer and shipper... easy to combine, and certainly a good laugh for anyone who got to see it. In June of 1920, six black circus workers were wrongly accused of raping a white Duluth woman. Rumors of the rape spread through Duluth like wildfire, and a mob of angry whites formed. The mob abducted three of the suspects, beat them and paraded them through town. The terrifying rampage ended at a lamppost in the middle of downtown Duluth. With thousands clamoring to watch, Elias Clayton, Elmer Jackson and Isaac McGhie were hanged.

**WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY** A P wire sports story--- Tuesday Oct. 15th 2008 Another brisk night along the shores of the biggest freshwater lake in the universe, "Gichigami" ("big water"). Duluth's oldest High School rivalry, Denfeld & Central take to the gridiron of Duluth Public Schools Stadium in what some visiting coaches say is one of the finest facilities they play at, outside their own of course. PSS is located in the Denfeld neighborhood of West Duluth and is a multi-use stadium for youth of all academic ages. Tonight was a big match-up, Central needed a win to stay atop the bracket seedings and Denfeld needing a conference win in a bad way before the playoffs. Central scored first, but it was Denfeld's grit and determination that saw them leading to start the 3rd Quarter, unfortunately Central had one more turnover to recover and stymie those frisky Hunter's. Rick Weegman summed it up in his headline the next day in the News-Tribune, "Sloppy's Still a Win", Trojans Head Coach Chris Vold said, "Shoot, give Denfeld credit those guys came out, it's an inner-city game, we knew they were gonna come to play, it doesn't matter about records. This video segment of my first vacation in 8.1 years involves a scenic overlook at a rest stop in Duluth. On Friday, Sep 19, 2008, I went on my second road trip, this time to Duluth, a port town at the far western edge of the Great Lakes. Barely visible (hazy) is Lake Superior, which seems to be about 200 feet below. Near the end is some kind of telescope that is coin-operated. I never used it because I don't carry cash. In addition, I had my 7 MP camera with 3x zoom (and tricks to minimize blur).

This winter snowstorm on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 is the second in three days to hit Duluth Minnesota, dropping 17" of snow on the west end of the city (where the clip takes place). The first storm on December 1, 2007, dropped 10" of snow throughout Duluth. In total we have 27" of snow on the ground. Strangely, the east end of Duluth only saw 2 to 6" of snow during Tuesday's storm. Just like the temperatures, the snow and rain effects in Duluth vary widely from area to area, thanks to our beautiful, wild, and unpredictable Lake Superior. Traffic coming home from work was snarled and slow going, and stories abound of long struggles to make it home. On average it took drivers about two hours to drive across town. For me it took one hour to drive six miles. For those of you who have never seen a snowmobile, you will see one shortly into the clip. In this kind of weather those travel so much easier than passenger vehicles! And to think it isn't even officially winter yet...
