Kechara Southern Jewel Chapel - inspired by Tsem Rinpoche

http://www.kecharahouse.com In a housing estate in the small town of Batu Pahat in the southern Malaysian state of Johor, a yellow canopy juts out of one of the row of terrace houses. Usually such canopies are signs of a wedding or a funeral, except that this exciting event is neither. Instead it is the opening of Dharmapala Setrap's Chapel, Southern Jewel. The chapel was inspired by H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, who had brought this powerful Dharmapala of the 600 year old illustrious Gaden Shartse Monastery to Malaysia. Setrap himself has a strong connection with this region. Firstly, he is the emanation of Amitabha Buddha, with whom a lot of people in this country have strong affinity. His sandalwood cudgel is also said to came from the forests of Malaya. Therefore, it is only natural that Setrap would come to Malaysia and benefit many people in this region. http://www.kecharahouse.com

Dharmakirti: Buddhism's Greatest Logician

by Cesar Turrubiates through Rev. Dr. James Kenneth Powell II, opensourcebuddhism.org This interesting work chronicles the life and thought of the great Dharmakirti, student of Dharmapala and Dignaga, who worked out a theory of "pointless points" atomism remarkably in step with modern quantum physical understanding of the basis for the universe

Nagas (Sacred Serpents) of Champa in Vietnam

Champa was an Indic civilization that flourished along the coast of Vietnam for almost 1000 years, until the capture and destruction by the Vietnamese of the Cham capital of Vijaya (located in what is now Binh Dinh Province) in 1471. Nagas were part of the art and mythology of Champa. As Hindus and users of Sanskrit as a formal language, the medieval Cham were heirs to the civilization and mythology of India, in which Nagas played an important role. Nagas were beings that had the properties and abilities of both humans and serpents. Like humans, they could speak and worship. Like serpents, they could live underwater and throw their coils around a victim. Some had the power to assume either human or serpent form. Numerous stories about Nagas may be found in the Mahabharata, the great epic of Indian civilization. Nagas had an additional significance in Cambodian civilization. A legend has it that the Khmer are descended from the union of an Brahman from India named Kaundinya and a local Naga princess named Soma. The legend implies that Cambodia originally was the land of the Nagas, and that its civilization is the result of the Indianization of its native substratum. Due to the cultural connection between Champa and Cambodia, the Naga became significant to the Cham as well. In 657 A.D., the Cham king Prakasadharma claimed to be descended from Kaundinya and Soma through his mother, a Khmer princess. The works of art presented in this video are housed in the museums of Vietnam. They include the following: Statue of Vishnu sitting on a coiled Naga. Vishnu is recognizable from the attributes he is carrying. The motif is probably borrowed from the Buddhist legend of the serpent king Mucalinda, who used his hood to shield the meditating Buddha from the elements. The statue also recalls the motif of Vishnu lying asleep at the bottom of the ocean on the body of the serpent Shesha. Statue of a Dharmapala with Nagas for his jewelry. This Buddhist statue of a temple guardian draws upon a theme from Hinduism that connects Shiva with serpents and has Shiva using serpents as personal ornaments. Architectural Ornament of Makara disgorging Naga. The makara is a mythical sea monster with the head of a crocodile and the trunk of an elephant. It is commonly invoked as a motif in Cham and Cambodian architectural ornamentation. It is generally shown disgorging some other being: a person, an deer, a Naga. * Nagas http://angkorblog.com/_wsn/page16.html * Art of Champa http://angkorblog.com/_wsn/page18.html

Drepung Losling Monks - Dance of the Skeleton Lords

From a performance at St. Cloud State University, April 13, 2006. My camera is cheap and I'm no Stephen Spielberg, sorry - this video does not do them justice. This is Dur-dak Gar-cham: Dance of the Skeleton Lords To remind the world of the ephemeral nature of all things, and of the liberating and balancing impact of an awareness of this reality, two monks appear as the forces of goodness manifest as Cemetary Lords. These are Dharmapala, or "Protectors of Truth," with the message to point the mind toward authentic being. Visit http://www.mysticalartsoftibet.org/ for more info.

BUDDHISM, PEACE & ECOLOGY-International day of planet Earth

BUDDHISM, PEACE AND ECOLOGY Each April 22 people of this Earth commemorate the Day of the planet Earth. In this Visual Dharma we teach about Buddhism , peace and ecology in connection with Sang rite and zazen meditation. In precious Ati yoga / Dzogchen there are exact explanations about connections between inner and outer elements : space, wind, water, fire and earth. We try to purify inner elements with purification breathings, reciting mantras of five elements and with visualisation. For completely relised beings like Buddha Shakyamuni , Buddha Pada Sambhava and many other Buddhas these five elements form Thigle or rainbow sphere --the symbol of intrinsic awareness or Rigpa. In Sang rite we also purify outer elements by offering scented smoke of cypresses to the four types of guests, including local guardians. Sang rite can be done at special days of lunar calendar -- 8th(dedicated to Medicine Buddha and Arya Tara),10th(dedicated to Guru Padma Sambhava),15th(dedicated to Amitayus),25th(Dakini day) , 29th (Dharmapala day) 30th (Shakyamuni Buddha day). In Buddhist lunar calendar last days of each month are benefitial for purification practices like Vajrasattva sadhana, Purification of six lokas, Shitro- Yoga of peaceful and wrathful manifestations etc.. Everything is interconnected according to the teaching of dependent arising (skt. praticca samutpada). In these years of globalisation, satelites circling around the planet and providing precise photos of climate change we can truly understand how interconnected all phenomena are. Deforestation in one part of the world (Tibet, South America etc.) , air and water polution , warming up of sea and more evaporation of water create stronger winds, until now more or less unexperienced in Europe. Buddhists can understand that all outer elements are interconnected. Also scientists should try to understand climate crysis from the point of view of interconnectedness of five elements. In this regard the Inconvenient truth documentary is highly recommended to everyone to study and contemplate. Former vice president of US, Mr. Al Gore truly deserves respect for his continuous effort and diligence in researching and documenting climate crisis in his many multi media lectures around the world. Only great spirit is capable of such continuous diligence. We congratulate him and other scientists who were rewarded with Nobel peace prize in December 2007. Collective prayers & meditations: In order to purify this planet Earth Buddhists at Open Buddhist Forum International pray and meditate each Sunday (3-4 p.m. Winter time or 4-5 p.m. Summer time). Recitation of Wish-granting prayer of Samantabhadra Buddha is esp. beneficial as well as Verses of Prayer to the Eight Noble Auspicious Ones. Visual Dharmas are contemporary way of teaching Buddhism in third millenium. All Visual Dharmas are empowered with the Sound of Dharmata, therefore they must be treated with respect. To EMBED and to SPONSOR preparation of Visual Dharmas means to perform 1st Dharmic Activity as taught by the Buddhas. It helps to purify this planet and to create more and more peace. Ecology and peace are key words for all awakened beings of this planet. They are deeply connected with unselfishness, egolessness and shunyata. As Buddha Shakyamuni taught : Nirvana is peace. First step on the spiritual path of all who seek peace is to BECOME A VEGETARIAN and to save lives of sentient beings. It is very correct that the XIV. Dalai Lama and XVII. Gyalwa Karmapa are now also teaching that their followers must be vegetarian. They should also not drink even a drop of alcohol and should not sell the Dharma. Buddha Padmasambhava is teaching in his Jewel spoke testament which was discovered as a hidden treasure / terma, that the Dharma is not a merchandise. It is the duty of all authentic Buddhist masters to show correct Path of Enlightenment. To follow on the Footsteps of the Buddhas... This Visual Dharma was originaly prepared for TV Slovenia / Duhovni utrip-Spiritual interlude (May 2007). With English subtitles it is presented to international audience. May it benefit everyone. Protesting monks beaten in Nepal

www.dorjeshugden.com On BBC, monks protesting in Nepal are beaten by the police. Clubbed and pushed violently into the paddy wagon. Very bad image for Tibetan Buddhism. Is the Tibetan Govt in exile allowing these type of images to flood the world media. Why are they not putting energy and resources into stopping the monks from political activities that endangers the bigger picture, which is Tibetan Buddhism. Buddhism is Tibet's only and best export. If this is damaged, world support for Tibet will greatly diminish. Will they allow their sangha to be so degraded. Instead of putting so much engergy into the BAN ON A SACRED PRACTICE SUCH AS DORJE SHUGDEN, the Tibetan Government should write books, give speeches, send message, have voting sticks, and push the Sangha to stop all activities such as violence and political activities that damage Tibetan Buddhism. The small minded Tibetan Govt always speaks about issues that has no damage to Tibet and HH such as Dorje Shugden. But ignores bigger issues: the reputation damage of the Tibetan Sangha in world view. If HH and Tibetan Govt cannot control their monks inside and outside of Tibet, why is it they put so much resources into banning Dorje Shugden among the Sangha? Tibetan monks on BBC rioting with stones and sticks in Lhasa sends a very damaging message to the whole world. It damages the image of HH, the Tibetan Govt in exile, and Tibetan Buddhism. The Tibetan Govt should focus all energy on that instead of the Dorje Shugden issue. Breaking the Samaya of teacher and students in the banning of Dorje Shugden does have terrible karmic effects. www.dorjeshugden.com

Panchen Lama, Dalai Lama, Dorje Shugden, China Government

www.dorjeshugden.com The China sanctioned Panchen Lama pictured with Dorje Shugden as his backdrop is the direct result of H.H. the Dalai Lama's ban and therefore fulfilling the prophecies that Dorje Shugden will become the overlord of all dharma protectors during this kaliyuga period. He will replace Nechung as the king of the emanated worldly protectors. While Nechung will 'retire' to a Buddha field due to his services. The Dalai Lama is creating the causes for all of this to manifest. www.dorjeshugden.com
