The Dallas Morning News had an editorial trying to outlay why the death penalty is a miserable failure as a deterrence. What the news media refuses to understand, it is not about deterrence, but justice. It is getting even, retribution, and closure for the victim's family. Nowhere in the editorial was the impact upon the victim's families mentioned. The media is attempting to influence the debate by twisting it. During the debate about the death penalty has the media ever evenly outlined the victim's families take on the subject? Nor has the media ever tried to examine the discussion from a point of administering justice

Did nuclear deterrence "keep us safe" for sixty years during the Cold War? Does it, in other words, work? For those who already have nuclear weapons, does nuclear deterrence justify their keeping them? Nuclear deterrence is based on the assumption that in moments of extreme national crisis attacks against cities (or the threat of attacks against cities) will matter. Much of our thinking about this question, however, ignores the available evidence and recent reinterpretations of important cases. New Jersey-based independent scholar Ward Wilson, winner of the 2008 Doreen and Jim McElvany Nonproliferation Challenge, will offer a critique of nuclear deterrence and a detailed discussion of the historical evidence that contradicts the concept.

He argues that the Japanese did not surrender because of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The beauty, the variety and fascination of bird flight attracted my attention long ago and by designing flapping wing models I wanted to understand a bit more about bird flight. Aerodynamic interpretation of a bird wing is extremely intricate, not only for its complexity including the differentiation in arm and hand part, but also because of the exceptional dynamic shape which changes dramatically in the course of a stroke cycle. Beginning with the successful contract bid on 5 June 1946, the B-52 went through several designs, from a straight wing aircraft powered by six turboprop engines, to the final prototype, YB-52 (with 8 engines), which first flew on 15 April 1952 by "Tex" Johnston. Built to carry nuclear weapons for Cold War-era deterrence missions, the B-52 Stratofortress replaced the Convair B-36. Although a veteran of a number of wars, the Stratofortress has dropped only conventional munitions in actual combat.
