As a way to challenge myself, and just to come up with ideas, I asked friends to tell me a topic and a sound that I could base a poem around. Though she didn't give a sound, one friend suggested that I write about politics. While I may do topical poetics later about particular politicians or events, first I wanted to write about an issue on my mind: My distaste for those who, when faced with someone still motivated about progressing politics into some nobler version of itself, remind said enthusiast that politics are all corrupt and crappy and it's pointless to try, because the scoundrels always win. To me, that's nothing but easy self-defeatism. Of *course* if you scare the good folks away all that's left to run the country is the scum of the Earth. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, but only if people buy into it. Jadedness that hasn't been earned is gross laziness in disguise. What weakness it would take to be discouraged by a mere word! But hey, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe idealism *is* doomed. Maybe only the corrupt win power (or let power corrupt them). Even so, that situation should *not* be accepted merely because it's a relief to wax cynical about society. I admire practical and persistent idealists, people who work hard to make every change for the better that they can, be that change small or large in it's impact. People who dare to work, to hope, and to constantly challenge themselves are the ones who earn my awe. It's for them, and for my own hope, that I wrote this. As always, any and all constructive commentary or criticism is welcome. Hope you like my rhymes! Ooooh, and I wonder, can anybody find all three puns in this poem?
