July 2005 Since September 11, the US has regarded Mindanao as a major focus in the War on Terror. But this is creating tensions with the Filipino government, who fear it's enflaming the Muslim insurgency. "Mindanao is the new Mecca for terrorism," alleges American ambassador Joseph Mussomeli. He claims that the separatist group MILF, fighting for independence from the past 30 years, has strong links to Jemaah Islamiah. But that's strenuously denied by MILF negotiator Mohaqmer Iqbal. "We are not terrorists. We would never mix with them." He fears that America's allegations are derailing the peace process with the Philippines. "They are lumping together the MILF with these so called terrorists so that the peace process will not proceed." If that happens, it may only further isolate the Muslims in Mindanao.

Using the historical subject of the Salem Witch trials, Arthur Miller's play The Crucible (written in 1953) presents an allegory for events in contemporary America. The Salem Witch Trials took place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692, and were based on the accusations of a twelve-year-old girl named Anne Putnam (Sara Standen). Putnam claimed that she had witnessed a number of Salem's residents holding black sabbaths and consorting with Satan. Based on these accusations, an English-American clergyman named Rev. Parris (Jason Roeder) spearheaded the prosecution of dozens of alleged witches in the Massachusetts colony. Nineteen people were hanged and one pressed to death over the following two years. Tickets for The Crucible are $12 for adults, $10 for students/senior citizens and you are encouraged to BUY TICKETS ONLINE NOW. Last minute tickets will be available for sale starting at 6:00pm just prior to the performances at the SOCSA Box Office at Dana Hills High School.
