Curse of the Demon (1957) 1 of 10

Curse of the Demon (US Title). Night of the Demon (UK Title). Dr. John Holden ventures to London to attend a paranormal psychology symposium with the intention to expose devil cult leader, Julian Karswell. Holden is a skeptic and does not believe in Karswell's power. Nonetheless, he accepts an invitation to stay at Karswell's estate, along with Joanna Harrington, niece of Holden's confidant who was electrocuted in a bizarre automobile accident. Karswell secretly slips a parchment into Holden's papers that might possibly be a death curse. Recurring strange events finally strike fear into Holden, who believes that his only hope is to pass the parchment back to Karswell to break the demonic curse. Although this is a low budget British movie I personally think that it is underrated, It has a marvelous cast of British character actors familiar to me over the years. The movie is well constructed and has a well formed plot that is both menacing and sinister, I remember watching it as a child found it very frightening at the time.

Dua Kumayl - Supplication Taught by Imam Ali (a.s.)

Kumayl Ibn Ziyad Nakha'i was a confidant amongst the companions of Amir al Muminin, Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib (as.) and this sublime Du'a was first heard from the beautiful, though anguished, voice of Imam Ali. According to Allama Majlisi (on whom be Allah's Mercy) Kumayl had attended an assembly in the Mosque at Basra which was addressed by Imam Ali in the course of which the night of the 15th of Shaban was mentioned. Imam Ali said-"Whosoever keeps awake in devoutness on this night and recites the Du'a of Prophet Khizr, undoubtedly that person's supplication will be responded to and granted. When the assembly at the Mosque had dispersed, Kumayl called at the house where Imam Ali was staying, and requested him to acquaint him with Prophet Khizr's "Du'a". Imam Ali asked Kumayl to sit down, record and memorise the "Du'a" which Imam Ali dictated to Kumayl. Imam Ali then advised Kumayl to recite this "Du'a" on the eve of (i.e. evening preceding) every Friday, or once a month or at least once in every year so that, added Imam Ali, "Allah may protect thee from the evils of the enemies and the plots contrived by impostors. O' Kumayl! in consideration of thy companionship and understanding, I grant thee this honour of entrusting this "Du'a" to thee."

Maths inc.: Dangerous Knowledge of the World p.1/9

In this one-off documentary, David Malone looks at four brilliant mathematicians - Georg Cantor, Ludwig Boltzmann, Kurt Gödel and Alan Turing - whose genius has profoundly affected us, but which tragically drove them insane and eventually led to them all committing suicide. The film begins with Georg Cantor, the great mathematician whose work proved to be the foundation for much of the 20th-century mathematics. He believed he was God's messenger and was eventually driven insane trying to prove his theories of infinity. Georg Cantor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg_Cantor Ludwig Boltzmann's struggle to prove the existence of atoms and probability eventually drove him to suicide. Ludwig Boltzmann http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_Boltzmann Kurt Gödel, the introverted confidant of Einstein, proved that there would always be problems which were outside human logic. His life ended in a sanatorium where he starved himself to death. Kurt Gödel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_G%C3%B6del Finally, Alan Turing, the great Bletchley Park code breaker, father of computer science and homosexual, died trying to prove that some things are fundamentally unprovable. Alan Turing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turing The film also talks to the latest in the line of thinkers who have continued to pursue the question of whether there are things that mathematics and the human mind cannot know. They include Greg Chaitin, mathematician at the IBM TJ Watson Research Center, New York, and Roger Penrose. Dangerous Knowledge tackles some of the profound questions about the true nature of reality that mathematical thinkers are still trying to answer today.

RASHID MINHAS SHAHEED . NISHAN-E-HAIDER

Friday, 05 August 2005 On the morning of the 20st August 1971, a young Pilot Officer, Rashid Minhas, was due to take off in his T-33 as part of a routine training exercise. It was a "complete exercise", meaning his exercise would be unaccompanied. Two of his colleagues had already had taken off, Minhas being the last to be given the go ahead. At 1126 Rashid Minhas had also received clearance for take off and so the 20 year old began taxiing into position. Before he was given final clearance for take off, he was given a signal indicating there was a mechanical error with the plane and that he must not take off. Puzzled, Minhas immediately stopped his plane, waiting for further instruction from the person who had given the signal. It was Safety Officier Muti-ur-Rehman, a senior pilot instructor who was standing by the tarmac at the time. He was several years Rashid's senior, and was someone whom Minhas held with deep respect. Minhas opened his cockpit in order to speak to the approaching Rehman. All of a sudden, Rehman pulled out a chloroform soaked handkerchief and held it over Minhas's mouth, rendering him unconscious. Minhas was not aware that Muti-ur-Rehman was planning on defecting to Mukti Bahini, a terrorist organisation that was involved in targeting West Pakistani civilians living in East Pakistan. Rehman planned on taking over the plane, and flying it to Jodhpur, India where members of India's RAW would be able to covertly assist him in joining the Mukti Bahini. While little is known about what plans Rehman made in the time building up to his defection, it is likely the choice in hijacking Minhas' flight was premeditated. Rashid Minhas was the youngest and most inexperienced of his fellow Pilot Officers. Rashid was also known in the academy for his short size, and would have been no match in a struggle for his older assailant. He gave instructions to a colleague of Bengali origin, telling him where he was planning on taking the plane, and also gave him instructions to escort his family to the Indian High Commission. Rehman's trust was misplaced as his confidant immediately informed his seniors of Rehman's defection attempt. The plane finally took off at 1131, with Rehman at the controls and an unconscious Minhas, and at 1133 contact with the plane from the communication tower was lost. The PAF, alarmed by the turn of events, feared the worse and immediately sent out planes looking for the hijacked T-33A. Radars also in operation trying to scan the location of the plane, but the experienced Rehman knew that flying below 30 feet would make him appear invisible on radar screens. It was in this situation that Rashid Minhas regained consciousness. Little is known of what actually happened in that cockpit that day. Rehman perhaps had believed he could financially tempt Minhas into assisting with his defection, or he may have attempted to physically or emotionally intimidate the much younger Minhas, who was still partially under the influence of chloroform. Finally, Minhas always had the option to eject from the plane, saving his capture by the Indian forces, but at the expense of the plane. Minhas was also aware that the Indian border was approaching, and a decision had to be made soon. The young Minhas, decided that allowing the defection of his plane would be unacceptable, and made a sacrifice of the highest kind. He used his trainee controls to crash his plane, knowing that due to its very low cruising height it would catch Rehman unprepared. The crash site of the T-33A was later found 40km from the Indian border, with both Rashid Minhas Shaheed and Muti-ur-Rehman dead. Rashid Minhas Shaheed was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider in recognition for his bravery, and currently remains the youngest person to receive this award. The PAF base at which he was based was renamed in his honour.

The story for HanaKimi is not a particularly oringial one, but it is a whole lot of fun to read. It is about a 17 year old girl named Mizuki Ashiya. Mizuki has been living in America and going to school there. (Her father is a 'gaijin' American who married a Japanese woman) She has an older brother who looks very 'gaijin' with light hair and eyes. Anyway, she is on her school's track team. One day after watching a high jump competition on TV (a video?), Mizuki becomes interested in one of the competitors, a guy her own age named Izumi Sano, a talented athlete from Japan. Mizuki decides right then and there that she wants to be Sano's friend. Poor Mizuki longs to meet Sano for three whole years before she finally manages to get back to Japan. The thing is, he goes to an all-boys school. This does not deter Mizuki though! She gets Julia to cut her hair for her, gets herself a boys school uniform, travels to Japan, and enrolls in Sano's school. Wow, now that is dedication for ya! Right away Mizuki encounters the guy she was looking for. She first meets Sano when she runs into class late and bumps in to him in the hallway. She leaves her book bag behind in her haste, and he returns it to her in class. Yes, Sano is in Mizuki's class! This causes her no end of happiness, though Sano wonders why the new 'guy' in his class is smiling at him so much. Things get even better for Mizuki. Not only is Sano in her class, she manages to get Sano as a roommate in the boys dorm too! WOW! Now they can be great friends! However actually living together begins to add some tension to their relationship. Mizuki finds herself caring about Sano as more than a 'friend' and Sano finds himself attracted to his roomate. Things are difficult for Mizuki, who must guard her feelings for Sano and hide her true gender from everyone. The situation is not any easier for Sano, whose feelings for Mizuki become very strong as well. Watching him cope with his emotions is one of my favorite parts of the story. For added flavor, throw in a hilarious cast of supporting characters. First there is Shuichi Nakatsu, a classmate of Mizuki's who totally falls for her right away, even believing she is a guy. Poor Nakatsu gets so confused! Then there is Nanba-senpai, the upperclassman leader of Mizuki's dorm. During the school festivals, he is the one in charge of organizing everything. He is someone who Mizuki can talk to sometimes, though Sano thinks he is a bit of a flirt. Next is Umeda-sensei, the school doctor. He is flirty and cool and very stylish for a school doctor. He becomes Mizuki's confidant, even though he often startles Mizuki with his private flamboyance ^_^ peach by otsuka ai

Foreclosure Angel: Stranger Buys Foreclosed House at Auction and Gave it back to Owner!

Foreclosure Angel A woman buys a stranger's foreclosed home... and gives it back to her. If you want to know more about this angel contact her on facebook and send her a message here: http://www.facebook.com/people/Marilyn_Mock/668928839 Marilyn Mock Says 'People Need to Help Each Other' By JONANN BRADY Tracy Pottsboro lost her job and then her home when she couldn't make mortgage payments. On Saturday, she watched as her home was auctioned off in Dallas. "The final farewell to my house," Pottsboro said. "It means so much to all of us. It's not just a house." Auctions on foreclosed houses are an opportunity for some and agony for those who've lost their homes. From July through September of this year, more than 2,700 Americans lost their homes to foreclosure every day, according to The Associated Press. In Texas, almost 9,200 homes entered the foreclosure process in September. On Saturday, Pottsboro took her seat among the crowd, waiting for house No. 73 to be called. Marilyn Mock, a small-business owner from Rockwall, Texas, had accompanied her son, who was interested in buying a house, to the auction that day. Mock was sitting near Pottsboro and noticed that she was upset. "She was crying, and I asked her what is she upset about, and you know, she lost her house," Mock said. When the No. 73 came up and the auction began, Mock said she asked Pottsboro, "Is it worth it?" "She said yes. & I just kept taking her word," Mock said. Mock ended up winning the auction, with a bid of about $30,000. And just like that, Pottsboro's sad goodbye turned into welcome home. Mock told "Good Morning America" that she will take out a bank loan to finance about half the cost and will let Pottsboro and her family live in the house and make payments to her instead of the bank. She said she will pay for about half the house upfront. Mock was straightforward about her motive. "People need to help each other, and that's all there is to it," she said. Pottsboro was moved to tears by Mock's random act of generosity. "Nobody's done anything like that for me before, and I hope that I can repay the favor," she said. Mock said her son and husband have come to expect these "crazy" things. "When I came home and I said, 'Well, honey, guess what?' He just goes, "OK, whatever.' He's used to it," Mock told "GMA." "I do a lot of things, you know, loan money out and give to somebody -- you see somebody in need, you give them money," she said. "Or you see somebody in the grocery store, they don't have enough money to pay for it, I'm usually the one behind saying here, here's $20 or something." http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/SmartHome/story?id=6118522 Marilyn Mock for President, or Foreclosure Angel I defy anyone to watch the this video and not cry. Marilyn Mock went to a foreclosure auction. She met Tracy, a woman whose house was being auctioned. Tracy was there to say goodbye. Tracys house wasnt a palace, but she loved it. She most likely was caught in the same net as hundreds of thousands of other homeowners whose dream of homeownership turned into a nightmare. Ms. Mock bought Tracys house. She gave it back to her. There are no words for this kind of generosity. Lets face it: Id rather watch something like this than Extreme Home Makeover. One more family has a home, and one more person has gone out of her way to help a complete stranger. This reminds me of my Bible college past. Sometimes, one entertains angels unaware. Thank you, Ms. Mock. Tracy, I hope this is a new start. This is a nice story with a happy ending. No matter who you think is at fault in this mortgage meltdown, there are individual stories out there that should be heard. I'm pretty confidant the woman in the story who lost her home wasn't a super slick financier playing the market. I suspect she is a regular wage earner who got into trouble by taking out a 2nd mortgage to feed her family. What a contrast with the 100's of millions the Wall Street fat cats stole. Could have bought a lot of these $50K houses..... Foreclosure auction makes house ownership possible for some By MONIKA DIAZ / WFAA-TV DALLAS - More than 500 bargain hunters hit the Dallas Convention Center Saturday to bid on the American Dream that has ended up in foreclosure. The misfortune of others is now an opportunity for those trying to buy into the housing market. In this tough housing market, more first-time home buyers are attending these auctions, to see if they can get their dream home for less. Today, two families gave the auction a shot and walked out of the convention center saving thousands of dollars.
